interesting... of course I am not a big change person so I might be a little slow on the adjustments!
But welcome to the new mods. I am sure you will enjoy it over here. Every once in awhile we get heated on the Top loading strap hinge albums! BUt for the most part one happy family!
As for the sub forums..not sure on that one. I kind of like how it is now. I like the flower board being seperate. in the spring it was nice to go there post and read and get exactly what info I wanted with out "weeding" through a lot of post.
I love this board for the mixing of food and crafts. Many times I am on here to look at scrap stuff but some food posting catches my eye and I link to it and then know what I am having for dinner!
I personally don't like super specific boards. I know the reasoning behind it. Easier to find info, but I skim the boards quicky so that doesn't bother me!

As for the name, not sure what you should call it. But again I like the current name. SImple and straight forward! So good luck!

I agree on SUBFORMS are necessary!
also I think the titles should be straight forward so newbies can find their way around easily!

I agree with sub forums. I visit here daily for the t-shirt thread, but before that moved over here I often came for crafting ideas or recipes and found that the forum was overrun with scrapbooking threads that I personally have no interest it. It would be nice to go to a specific sub forum and not have to wade through pages of irrelevent topics.

That's a good question and I wish I had a good answer for you - but I'll fake it the best I can When we were asked to pick what we wanted our new homes to be, I chose the cooking, crafting, and scrapping board because I love crafting. Imagine my surprise when I found out I got the bonus Flower and Garden board, especially since I have a brown thumb..lol Probably they board admin wants to consolidate it down because F&G doesn't get much traffic at all and they thought that it would make a good sub topic with the other past times of cooking and crafting.

That's why I wanted any other suggestions along these lines of sub categories you guys might want to see, like home decorating or home "how-to". Might as well make us one big happy home full of stuff we do with our hands. (hmm.. this type reply would be asking for it over on the community board... )

Thanks for the welcomes to Kaylajr & me! This has been a whirlwind week for me & being asked to be a moderator was a pleasant surprise!

As for names, sub forums, etc. ... bottom line ... I'm not sure ... here are some of my random, personal thoughts:

I know when this cooking, crafting, scrapping first came about I thought it should have been called something like "arts & crafts" or "hobbies" or something along those lines. I haven't had a problem wading through the various subjects on the Cooking, Crafting, Scrapping board. Actually I like seeing/reading the mixture.

When I first heard this board & flower & gardening would be merging, my first thought was something about the home - inside & out. Cindy/Goofymom/pop's thoughts about a "patchwork" caught my eye, too. I think we need to brainstorm more about a title.

Sub forums ... I know we are trying to put a lot of interests into this one board. I think back to when the collector's board created a subboard for just pin trading. Some folks were not crazy about the separation. I know I for one didn't read it as much as I would have read the posts mixed in with the collector's other posts. Of course, another factor might have been that my pin trading days became less & less as my scrapping days became more & more . Anyone who was/is into pin trading knows it can be expensive. I chose to spend my $$$ on scrapping.

I know the DVC board folks, myself included, were somewhat confused when the board was divided into two subboards. I know the moderators tried hard to explain the changes. Now I just read both DVC boards .

I realize change is hard in the beginning, but there is change all around us in our every day life.

I accepted the T-Shirt People (they seem to keep to themselves ) - but where did they come FROM???

I enjoy the combination of Cooking and Crafting and Scrapping.......just seems to work....so why 'fix it'???

I suggest (well, you DID ask! ) that you keep "Cooking, Crafting and Scrapping" as one Sub-forum and add "T-Shirts" as another sub-forum along with "Gardening".

So three forums under the Heading of ????
That's the tough one.....I found this forum because after my cruise I wanted to scrap and someone on the cruise board said check out the 'Scrapping Board'...if you don't call it that and instead choose a generic, 'homey' name - how the heck would I have found it ???

Why would you want to keep cooking and crafts with scrapping. The scrapping overpowers the cooking and crafts. If you are going to break down into sub forums you might as well make it user friendly. It makes sense that the T-shirt thread was moved from the Theme Parks board as it is all about crafting, making T-shirts and the community that has evolved from this hobby. Just as your scrapping community has evolved over time. I love to make all kinds of crafts, but hate taking the time to wade through the scrapping threads to find the few cooking or crafting threads. I guess what I'm saying is either leave it as one big board and we all deal with searching for our areas of interest or break it down to user friendly subforums that have more specific categories.

I have respect for those of you that have the patience to spend hours creating a work of art from your photos, I wish that I had the patience, but I don't.

hmmm, the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is coming to mind here. I guess if y'all are set on tossing everything together you better call it something like crafts and hobbies. Personally I like the cooking,crafting and scrapping boards as they are now, I don't mind looking at all the non scrapping threads and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't see them if y'all separate everything out. (since I'm technically not a cooker other crafter type person). And the tshirts have been pretty cool, wouldn't have seen them if they were separated out either. maggie

ps: on the other hand, if we get a new board, will we get to have coloured tags and our very own tag fairy?

I guess the way I see it is also kind of like a store. Think about Michaels.. a store I'm sure most of us know and love. The store is about one basic principal, but it is divided up into departments. Scrapbooking to one side, yarn crafts to one, art to another, cake decoration, and so on. Makes it easier so that if you are looking for the latest knitting craze, you aren't sifting through cake pans, stickers and scissors that cut cool shapes

On the comment "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".. well, we kind of don't have a choice. We need to find a way for this board and Flower and Garden to come together under direction of DIS Admin. So I say lets embrace that and make this a chance to really make this area of the DIS the best it can be.

nicurn - you asked about whether you guys can expect visits from the Tag Fairy in return for dealing with the "new construction" process...

Tell you guys what... I can guarantee you that the Tag Fairy will learn the location of the new board and will hang out here. I have a lot of dirt on the Tag Fairy and if he/she/it doesn't want me spilling.. he/she/it will flap on over here.

i hope the Tag Fairy shows up I would hate to see a battle between You and He/she/it

On the other subject That is how I see the new board too
I like scrapbooking but if i want to know how to plant my new shrub i don't want to have to weed thru all the craft stuff
sub forums or departments or whatever we call them is probably the easiest way

I am a little confused with the sub boards. If everything is a sub board over here what will the main board be?
Like the CB board has sub boards and seems to work well. Although I will admit I never look at the sub boards.
Of course since scrapping is my main interest I would love to see that as the main board. But then how fair is that to the cooking people because to be honest I think they had this board first and us scrappers kind of moved in! I found this board for the cooking not scrapping at first....
Oh well what ever happens happens.
As for the Tag fairy....well if I actually see it happen then I will believe that she will come here! We have asked before and she or is a he? Never showed up!

From what I can tell, we (the CC&S people) are ALREADY a sub-forum of "Just For Fun" as are the Gardening people.

So REALLY - they want you to combine several of the smaller forums into a bigger forum.....and then into more sub-forums???


Are you trying to lose us or confuse us . . .

ALong the lines of Meanlaureens thoughts about home and a name for the board.... you could call the board "Welcome Home". If you put an explanation of the board under the title, it would pull a Disney saying and what MeanLaureens idea is of it being a home for crafting etc all together.

I have a lot of mixed feelings on all of this. I did say I would like to see sub-fourms because it would make things easier to find specific threads. But I have also fould out about a lot of things becasue everything is lumped together. I love all the T-shirt ideas.

It would be exciting to be visited by the tag fairy, but I am not too optimistic, I have given up on being tagged a long time ago!

I was thinking some posssible titles, I am not always good at this, but maybe it will trigger something in someone else. I thought of things like: Homelife Inside and Out. Hobbies in and out of the home. Homebodies. The Hobby Place. Hobby Den. Hobbies Galore. Goofy for Hobbies. Around the Home inside and out. Just some things to kick around. This is a tough job for you mods!
