Big Announcement????

If you feel as though you are "getting screwed" by being a DVC member, why don't you sell your points and call central reservations to book your trips and take advantage of the promotional offers?

Just sayin.........

I'm not complaining about being a DVC member. But just because 'you drank the kool aid' doesn't mean you have to see everything through 'Disney-colored' glasses!

I wouldn't be a DVC member if I didn't love going to Disney. (Whether it be Vero, WDW, or a cruise) I think you sometimes have to play devils advocate and see it from another way.

What are the odds of winning?

No way to predict because it will depend on the number of entries on any given day. Probably better than the odds of winning the mega-millions but still in the ballpark of getting struck by lightning.

I get it. They are trying to entice people into coming during a historically low attendance period. I think it sucks because I'm already booked for Mar 3-10 with free dining. I'm worried about what this will do to the crowds. I hope everyone is right and not a lot of people will be able to take advantage of the offer on short notice.

Yes - we CHOSE to be DVC members and pay handsomely for that choice. That's why it's frustrating if I CHOOSE to use the dining plan, I pay for it when others get it for free. I understand I get to stay at beautiful resorts not 'paying' the full price too. But I do think, as a perk for all we paid for our membership and maintenance, there should at least be a discount offered for dining. Maybe the offer of less points on my 4th night stay? Why should I pay cash for an offer when that was why I bought into DVC?

Kind of makes me feel as a DVC member sometimes like they've got my money and they're done with me.

And as far as the promotion - it's really only a two week event to fill the rooms at a low time. Smart move for Disney but not for regular folks looking for something at other times of the year.

I didn't drink anything. I am looking at things realistically, not complaining about a membership service I chose to take part in, maybe I am misinterpreting your comments, but.......

You're just mad because you said, "Here's my math" and then someone showed you that your math was completely off. (FYI - the fourth day of tickets costs $11.72 adult and $10.65 child, not your expressed $60 and $56.)

I think this promotion is ridiculous not just because of how skimpy it is, but because it only affects two weeks out of the whole year. For a company that works very, very hard to keep its hotels full 52 weeks out of the year, that is a difficult-to-understand misstep.

And for those who are so nastily concerned about everyone thinking they "deserve" more - I don't think I deserve more, I just expected more and hoped for more from Disney. I'm not used to them completely blowing it like this. Being disappointed in this stupid promotion is a perfectly reasonable response.

I'm not mad about the math. I did read the page for tickets wrong. The number was the price per day number not the price for the forth day.

What I am mad about is the level of negativity the masses have produced lately. It seems that all of the message boards have posts complaining about how the special offers are not great or the dining plan causes larger crowds. How about the new attractions and expansions are not what they wanted.

I look around at other vacation destinations that make no attempt to improve the park or provide new family experiences. In addition they raise the ticket price every year. I look at six flags rates that my daughter pays and how she gets on three or four major attraction in the entire day unless she pays an additional $24 dollars to get a "fast Pass" type ticket.

Everyone here can complain as much as they want about the poor promotion yet everyone shows how they have more trips planned and the park is closed this past week because it's too full.

Lets see a show of hands for parents of young girls who love princesses and plan to make a trip to see the new Fantasyland expansion with Belle and Little Mermaid.

I see that the Disney defenders got here.

This promotion is disappointing. That is my opinion and it looks like some people share it. I realize that Disney is in the business of making money and that they aren't trying to do me any favors but this promotion is still disappointing. Comparing this to other companies and what they do or don't do doesn't make this any less underwhelming.

You obviously do not have a good understanding of what you purchased from DVC....

Well Disney has been doing that a lot lately.

Agreed. While the competition (Universal, Sea World) keeps improving, Disney has let its Florida parks become stale. I'll take Harry Potter phase 2 over a possible "Avatarland" in 7 or 8 years any day.

I'm a Universal freak and I love the Harry Potter stuff but I'm more than willing to give the Avatar expansion a chance. IF Disney does what they're capable of, I have no doubt that it will be amazing. There are areas in WDW that involve subject I have no interest in but I still go because the areas are so well executed.

Just another view.

agreed, Disney just keeps coming up with ideas that are always too little too late and half baked ideas. Be it FLE, discount/promotions, PI etc. They're slowly losing their grip on control of Orlando tourism and I'm not sure they have a clue that alone an answer.

I expect Potterland phase 2 will be nearly complete before Disney has much to show for Avatarland, and Potterland phase 2 hasnt even been announced yet!

I'm also not doing back flips over this new promotion. I know that Disney isn't obligated to offer promotions and that it is a business, etc. but I think the disappointment has a lot to do with the fact that the promotion was advertised in a way that made it seem like it was supposed to be a really big deal given the fact that people have to learn that the promotion is only valid for a couple weeks within a time frame that doesn't give people much time to book, save, and plan for a Disney trip. Hopefully there will be other promotions offered for those that are planning trips for other time periods this year; but again the big song and dance announcement for a promotion that is a small discount valid for a very short window of time is why I think a lot of Disney fans are disappointed. Our family really enjoyed our WDW trip this past year and felt our experience was highly memorable; but honestly without the nice promotional offer we took advantage of, staying onsite at a WDW resort for a week with the dining plan wouldn't have been within our family's reach financially and we could have otherwise stayed at an offsite hotel suite or condo which would have resulted in us spending a lot of our vacation dollars at non-Disney establishments.

Actually, I have never seen a negative post on the 30% off special offer.
Why? Because it is a good offer, that can be enjoyed for 4 months, and nevertheless it hasn’t been hyped by Disney like the best thing after apple pie.

On the other hand, this promotion is valid only for 2 weeks, it is not particularly better (for some families it makes things cheaper, for others more expensive), but it’s been hyped for weeks. If it had just quietly come out, I am sure nobody would be disappointed.

Well, yes, that's precisely right. They've hooked you and reeled you in, why would they give you more bait? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Walt Disney World, it is by far our favorite family vacation, but Disney is in the business to make money, and DVC, ran just the way it is, makes them a whole lotta money.
