Biergarten Restaurant

My husband and I are at opposite ends of what we like to eat. I go lighter, he goes heavier. So all the meats and brauts and all that, he absolutely LOVES. He rolls out stuffed silly. Somehow, I, um, do the same thing and I eat totally different from what he does. The great thing about a buffet is that you can just look at the food and decide if it's something you might like, take one piece or spoonful of it, put it on your plate, move on to the next item, and once the plate is full, you go back to your table and try things. If you don't like it, you leave it on your plate and eat what you do like. Then, you go back for what you like and keep repeating.

I will offer one huge piece of advice - don't wait until the end to get your desserts. I always have one plate of "real food" and one plate of desserts at the table during the meal.

I agree, the salads are very good here. I love beets and I loved the cucumber salad and the pickles were to die for... they ran out when I was there though! I hoped to go back for more but they were gone! So SAD! People say this is a heavy meal but it doesn't have to be, my plate was about half salads, half heavier stuff. yum, I want to go back now :) Also I am not much of a dessert person but I believe the bavarian cheesecake won for desserts on our trip.

I'm a super picky eater, and my Dad prefers plainer food. We both love this restaurant! Nothing is too exotic, and we have never had a problem finding way too much to eat!

My daughter is very picky. But she loves the Biergarten. She always finds lots to enjoy. It has something for everyone.

they don't always have the cheese soup, it's one they rotate through.

all of Disney is overpriced. I always think about what the overall trip is costing and what's an extra $10 extra (vs a kid meal at a non buffet) in a trip that costs thousands of dollars if both you and your husband enjoy the experience as well? Basically, NOTHING in disney is worth what you pay for it... so just see if it's something that you want to do and don't worry about $10 here and there. hundreds yes, $10? I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

I'm familiar with the overcharging, but I actually disagree that nothing at Disney is worth what you pay for it. That being said, were there nothing she'd eat, we might prefer to eat elsewhere. We have lots of faves! But I think Biergarten is worth doing- we haven't been since 2007! Not sure how that happened!

Like others have said, it's only what is on the buffet but there is quite a lot to choose from. Dinner rolls and pretzel rolls should be pretty good for most picky eaters. The mac and cheese was not a hit for my mac and cheese lover as it's not your typical version you find for kids or at home. Not just because it's homemade but the texture of the cheese isn't smooth (pretty sure that's why my DS didn't like it). There is chicken, potatoes, deli meats and cheeses, sausages, applesauce, fruit, etc.

I think texture plays a big role with some kids.... mine is big on texture and anything different. It's extreme. We are working on it..... I'm hoping we've made some progress by August.

Worst case scenario, she can fill up on dinner and pretzel rolls!!!!

I meant none of the sit downs are worth what you pay for them... except that you're in Disney. But I'm not sure *I* can eat $20 worth of food at a buffet, let alone a little kid.... unless it is very expensive items (which the food is not at most Disney buffets). You are paying just to be at Disney. There is nowhere else I'd spend $40 on an aycte meal like that. I can't eat $40 worth of food. But it's the experience... so rather than say no, I can feed my kid for $10 elsewhere, if it is an experience we all want to have, I don't worry about it. I'm sure I could eat $40 worth of food at a signature but it would cost me twice that ;)

But yes, if your child would eat NOTHING then it's not worth it. But if my child would eat enough to be satisfied even if it's the cheapest thing on the menu and not remotely worth $20 I'd still go if I wanted us to go and have the experience and not worry about him only eating $5-10 worth of food.

I could get my monies worth on the desserts alone.

While one might think of German desserts being heavy, they are not and they go down quite well. :P

YES YES YES ! I agree totally!

Our son also. ASD, ADHD, and his sensory processing most days is the worst and has been since he was3. He is now 16 and has made great strides especially on our annual Disney vacation! He LOVES Biergarten. He gets rolls with butter, salad, used to get the carrots but they changed. He Loves the roasted chicken, the schnitzel and cuts it like a big chicken nugget, and the franks that look like small hotdogs and cuts those up. He loves the desserts too. The noise level is loud but we ask for a table on higher level farther from stage and now he can handle it. Hope that helped!

Ahhh, Absolutely agree. We try not to do buffets for these very reasons.... but Biergarten is tempting!

Thank you! It's nice to know I'm not alone. Our daughter's eating is more of a control than a sensory processing issue. My husband has severe OCD, and I honestly think her extreme pickiness stems from that. There are things fellow posters have suggested because their picky eaters ate them- I'd give my right arm if she'd eat that. It's freaking exhausting because she is also very thin, so it's difficult for me to say "eat what I cook, or don't eat at all." I know she'll eat the hot dogs, fruit, bread, and maybe the chicken.

I envy people who can say that. My son (now 21 and no longer picky and eats most everything, thank you Jesus!) was the kid who wouldn't eat if we had said that to him. I made special meals everyday just for him and it was always an argument at my house with my ex. He even made him sit at the table one night for him to eat just one bite.. he ate it then ran to the bathroom to get sick. It's so hard for people who haven't lived it to understand. Sadly our little one seems to have some of the same issues so we are starting all over again. Sigh

My extremely picky daughter (seriously- she was in therapy for her food selectiveness) was able to find some thing. She didn't leave stuffed, but ate. Something that I have found helpful when we try a new restaurant with her is to promise to stop by a "safe" place AFTER we eat if she isnt able to find something she likes. That gives her a safe out, but she my be willing to try something.
Enjoy! The rest of the family loved it!

YES OCD is bad here too. He used to eat nothing but maybe 3 things years ago, and the idea eat what we have or starve didnt work. The Dr's by 8 years old wanted him on a feeding tube. We kept on getting as many calories as we could into him no matter what the food. Even as far as bringing him home at lunch time and then having him eat in the nurses office for years and years in elementary school. I totally get it. He is now 16 and 90lbs and eats and knows what he likes. Some of the things at Disney he would have never even tried here at home!

In general I find that buffets are pretty safe for my picky eater because he can find SOMETHING he will eat and isn't pitching a whole meal if something is a miss. I tried the traditional "eat it or you get nothing else" approach and it was a nightmare and it took me years to undo the anxiety and trauma about food. That was the end of taking traditional parenting advice about my aspie kid who is also ADHD and has anxiety disorder. He is doing much better since we took ALL the pressure off of eating and he can try what is interesting to him.

My suggestion is to search it on youtube. There are several reviews on there where the blogger goes up and down the buffet line and shows everything on the buffet. You can watch a few videos and get a decent context of things that are offered.

My dd is super picky, always has been. When we did our mother daughter trip when she was 19 she specifically requested we go to Biergarten for dinner. I know food is always $$$ at Disney, so I just don't even think about the cost. Really neither of us eat enough to make a buffet worth it, but at Disney we do plenty of them.

this is a really great suggestion! I just pulled up the menu online, and its not very descriptive, so some of the foods sound scarier than they are!
