Biergarten questions

Funny - I've been reading these posts and just said to DH that talking to people from different places is one of the things that makes Disney special to me....some of the funniest conversations I had were with strangers on the bus and waiting in line for fast passes!
It is the introvert vs. extrovert thing-some Guests just prefer to not converse with other Guests while Guests like you and me find it to be one of the best things about WDW-everybody is different.:)

Yes I totally agree- love talking to people from so many different places! But I think some other posters are right- the CM should let people know upon check in that there's communal seating in case they don't know. Maybe the surprise of seating with others turns some off and they seem unfriendly.

We have always been reminded at check in about the communal seating.

Good to know- we've been there twice in the last six months and I don't remember them telling us that. I do know about it-maybe I didn't pay attention?

why can't you return?
after the horrible dining experience, I cant possibly ever get my family to try it again. We werent banned at all from the restaurant hope that wasnt taken the wrong way. It was just a bad time, with a table mate who clearly had no idea of what it was like going in and made it uncomfortable for all including our son who has autism. So sad because we love the food and the music there.

I wouldn't not go there because you had a bad table mate. The chance of your family being seated next to that exact same person next time are 1 in a billion.

I always laugh because when the hostess has told us about the communal seating, she always ends with "Is that okay?". I have often wondered what she would do if I said "No, that is not okay!!" :-)

I wonder what those "unfriendly" folks said! We're going to dine there later this year- I'm going to listen well and when asked if it's ok I'm going to say SURE but does anyone say NO??

try explaining that to a teen on the autism spectrum, it was so so uncomfortable that we wont gamble that again. We can just eat here at home in a german restaurant with our own table! Its ok, it just was a scene we dont want to redo at disney.

My family would be happy to share a table with you.

I would love an option to share a table with other Disney LOVING families!! we like to chat, and are just generally always happy to be at Disney! The poor waiter was also taken aback by our table mate, the other family was super nice but also felt uncomfortable. 14 days till we are back home!

We went once. We haven't been back. It wasn't a TERRIBLE experience but it was pretty mediocre:

1) we had to wait ~30min after our ADR time. Once we got into the restaurant, it was maybe 1/3 full, so the wait was extra annoying.
2) I was kind of iffy on the communal table experience going in, and nothing about it changed my mind. We were seated with a newlywed couple who seemed VERY shy and a grouchy older couple who said 3 words the whole meal.
3) the food wasn't bad (it was a lot better than the more expensive Akershus just one country over) but it wasn't anything special, either.

I could see how, if you were seated with a fun group at a table and/or REALLY like German food, it would be a better experience. I wasn't unhappy but we haven't even considered it as a TS ADR in our subsequent trips to WDW.

Is it awkward? I'm friendly, but my familys not great at it
The only awkwardness that we encountered was when my husband told this other couple sitting at our table that it was our table. He didn't realize that parties shared tables- so he felt kind of awkward the whole meal. Our next trip we will be a party of 7 so i guess there is a chance we could be seated with a party of 1 -- now we know to welcome them to the table. LOL!

So are all eight seated at once, or are one party there and then they may leave and another may come, or you may or what?
You would be seated as you come, so not that they would necessarily wait for parties to arrive to fill a table. So I would presume as some leave others will be seated.

We had a party of 1 seated with us a couple years ago. It was a man whose wife wasn’t feeling well and had gone back to the hotel. He was Canadian, so we had a great dinner talking with him about his visit.

I made my reservations this morning and this place was the first one I booked.
Have always enjoyed eating there.
Most of the time I'm there solo and always find someone at the table to visit with.

We did this many times as a couple and we sat with friendly people and not so friendly people. Families and other couples and we always enjoyed our meals. If others engaged we had a great conversation. If we got the vibe they rather talk among themselves we respected that and kept to ourselves. We just liked the opportunity to talk to strangers on our Disney trip....part of the fun of meeting people from all over the country and the world! The last time we did biergarten we had our four little kids and grandma so as a party of seven we did have our own table. We booked it this August as a family of 6 so I’m thinking we will be paired up with a party of two. It would be great if the hostess could tell if that party of two was a a couple or friends who don’t mind Kids or maybe even a single parent with a kid! It seems kind of unfair if they placed a couple or friends who rather dine without kids.
