There is a difference in price...like $12 per person, so is there a difference in food options worth the extra money to do dinner ?

that is the general trend of higher prices at dinner. Still there are a few additional items at dinner. Two that I definitely remember are sauerbraten and beef roulades. True sauerbraten is a multi day dish. It's probably the main reason I prefer dinner.

According to Allears.net the dinner buffet add-ons are:

Braised Beef Roulades
Sauerbraten (Marinated Pot Roast)
Potato Dumplings with Bread Crumb Butter
Herring Salad Schleswig Holsteiner Style

We go for dinner because we like the roulades and saurebraten.

We go for lunch because we feel there is not enough we want at dinner to support paying that much extra. There is plenty to eat at lunch that is good.

Yes, there is some added food at dinner. But I am pretty sure if you went at lunch you will find plenty of food to enjoy and you will be able to put the $12.00 towards your counter service dinner.

We went for a late lunch, paid that price and then it converted over to dinner while we were there. We could get those options as well after that time. If you timed it the way we did (totally unexpected), you could have the best of both worlds.

I don't know whether the difference in food price is worth going at dinner instead of lunch, but I do know that - when we went for lunch in '09 - we didn't "experience" Biergarten in the way it was intended to be experienced. That is to say that the restaurant wasn't very full and that NOBODY participated in the show. For that reason, I won't go back at lunch and plan to go at dinner. Part of the price, for me, is the "experience," and we missed out on that.

We go at dinner for many of the same reasons - the girls love to get up and dance and dinner seems to have more participants. My husband also enjoys the German beer and drinking it at lunchtime can cause his afternoon plans to be a little "off." We eat a light lunch and then head over for an evening of dinner and Illuminations.

Only thing I noticed is that last time the waiter was in a hurry to turn the table and the service wasn't as good. We're hoping this was just a one-time thing with a tired waiter. Anyone else experienced this lately?

For the most part the food is the same, as PP said there are a few differences but not enough to make me not want to do lunch (my DH would disagree--he loves sauerbraten!) The only thing about lunch for me is, make sure you have an ADR for 1 or later because I think the band doesn't start playing until 1:15 or 1:30.
