I'm thinking of trying Biergarten for the CP package. I've never eaten there and would like opinions. I don't want to burn two dining credits by using my dining plan and am looking for a lesser expensive option for dining. I will be paying for 2 adults and 2 juniors 10-17. I wanted to do San Angel, but my DD10 isn't a huge fan of Mexican food. I feel that I would be throwing money away. I thought a buffet would give her lots of options.

1) Lots of buffet options, PLUS a floor show.
2) Biergarten is a good alternative for your criteria.

Our Ratings of Biergarten: (rev 5/11/11)
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: C
. . . staff helpfulness: B
. . . characters: B (entertainment, not characters)

NOTE: Seating is on long beer-hall tables , so
other families will be seated with you. Although
entertainment at lunch and dinner, the dinner
show is far more fun. Epcot likes to Americanize
its food, Biergarten remains relatively authenti

Thanks, I just want to go somewhere, everyone will eat.

We really enjoyed the show, but to be honest, the food wasn't a big hit with us. We were expecting more traditional food, and it is, but was just very heavy and nothing that stood out as incredibly tasty. We were a party of 7, with my parents, ourselves, and the kids, and this was the least favourite for all of us.

My family ate here for lunch in august. I have six kids and all of us loved it. There were several types or salads, several meats, sausage, chicken, fish, bread and more. The desserts were also good. Drinks were refilled often and the show was great. My kids have asked to go there again.

I think you do get a good array of food options on the buffet. The OOP price at lunch is significantly less than dinner, and most of the buffet items are the same - dinner just adds a few things. If the food items were not particularly "exotic" they were tasty and the overall experience was good. I'd say that this would be a good way for you to give it a try. If it's a big hit, you could try it for dinner on the DDP on a future trip.

I'm planning on doing lunch as the price for the CP is less for all the lunches.

just so you know, there are no dining "juniors." Kids age 10-17 pay the adult price at buffets like Biergarten.

If you have a kid looking for chicken nuggets or pizza, you won't find those at Biergarten. They do have macaroni and cheese.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to go with a less expensive option since I will be paying adult prices for a picky 11 year old.:)

OK, maybe this is a strange opinion....but here goes:

I am in a similar situation, wanting to pay OOP for a CP lunch package to conserve our dining credits. I LOVE the CP show; it is positively magical. We've never eaten at Biergarten and it has been on my "to try" list for awhile now. That said, I was concerned about the Oompah (sp?) band ruining my CP experience. Biergarten looks like a fun, kid-friendly place that we would love any other time, but right before CP? I don't know. We've booked San Angel. Opinions welcome...

Dh and I are German, and we love taking our family here. All of our kids and ourselves love clanking our mugs of "beer", and singing along. The kids go down to dance, even some adults. The Pork Gratin is to die for. My kids love to eat all the varieties of meats, and cheeses. We LOVE the pretzel bread as well!!:worship:

you can't beat Biergarten for the lunch package for Candlelight Processional.

I think there are enough options to keep everyone satisfied with the Biergarten. There are menus on different websites to show you what's available if you want more details on the buffet. If you are really afraid of this place for whatever reasons then you still have a few other choices.

You have a couple of other options, too. You can use your 2 credits for a better place for the CP and then eat an extra CS meal OOP for whatever day to make up for the credit. If you want another TS place that's cheaper you can try Tusker House's buffet for lunch in AK and pay OOP for it. You do get an appetizer and an Illuminations fireworks preferred viewing pass with the package and that's a nice touch besides the show.

Finally, this works better for a two some, but we bought a restaurant.com certificate for Garden Grove in the Swan. We paid $2 for a $25 certificate there. You can't double up on the certificates for one table. The buffet there runs about $30 a piece. So, two people will be able to eat for $35 plus the $2 certificate cost. It's not hard to get there using the Epcot boat or even a Hollywood Studios day can be done by boat, too.

I wouldn't say that the food at Biergarten is geared toward picky eaters. The buffet has fruit and bread which are the two things our picky eater granddaughter ate the last time we were there. She ate dessert, too... a big slice of chocolate cake. (vacation, right? :))

The dishes are authentic German fare and the meats and side dishes are cooked with sauces and onions and peppers and the salads are combinations of different ingredients.

But you can't beat the atmosphere for family fun.

It's a good choice....we've been there several times and like the variety of food.

It never occurred to me that hearing a German oompah band prior to viewing CP would ruin the experience of CP. But if that is the impression you get you are probably right to book elsewhere. San Angel may have mariachis in front of the restaurant, don't know how you feel about hearing that before CP. If you are looking for someplace a little more "solemn" I am not really sure how you find that at WDW.

I'm not looking for solemn, just a nice holiday evening with my family. The German square at night with the band and sitting with others sounds like alot of fun, but not in keeping with my imagined "theme" for the evening. Maybe the truth is that I prefer margaritas to lager :) We'll try it next time.

I just booked for lunch at Biergarten for the CP package. I think it will be good, based on what others have said. I actually love the German Octoberfest atmosphere. I used to go the Busch Gardens in Williamsburg every summer and we always ate at Octoberfest...although I had pizza there...:lmao: But, I love sausages and kraut and all that jazz.;)
