~ If Senator Biden said that his wife and daughter were killed by someone who "drank his lunch", and the man was not drunk, then it is a slanderous or libelous statement because most people interpret the phrase "drank his lunch" to mean he was drunk. So let's not argue semantics. We all iunderstand the implication.
~ Yes, Senator Biden certainly has every right to feel however he feels with regard to the gentleman who was involved in a fatal accident with 2 members of his family, but he doesn't have the right to slander/libel the man, if, in fact, he did, by implying that the man was drunk if he was not.
~ If Senator Biden said that and it is untrue, then I do not blame the man's family for being upset and distressed. If someone was besmirching my late father's name, I'd be angry too.
~ I also do not blame Senator Biden for being upset and distressed and devastated...and all those other descriptives...at the loss of his wife and daughter.
~It is not "picking on" Senator Biden, his family or his late wife if the truth of the accident was that his wife wasn't paying attention. It's the facts of the accident. Doesn't make it any less tragic, and I am quite sure if her inattention did cause or contribute to the accident that she certainly didn't do it on purpose.
~ It is a tragedy all around, for both families. For Senator Biden because he lost his wife and daughter and had seriously injured sons and all the things attendant with that. For the other man because he had to live with the fact that he was involved in an accident where there were fatalities. For the other man's family whose loved one's name is now being dragged through the mud if Senator Biden's statement is untrue.
~ If Senator Biden has brought this up or made these statements recently as a part of this election, then he cannot expect that there won't be commentary on it. If he did not bring it up as part of this election, then I find it in poor taste to comment on statements he may have made in the distant past...more in the immediate aftermath of the event...as being part of an electoral issue now.
