Bible retranslated---is nothing sacred?

I like your post. Let me add to this:

I have faith - however I do not believe every word written in the bible - why? Because it was put together and translated by a committee! I have faith that God is all forgiving, that God loves all his children whether the color of their skin, sexual preference, or religion - as long as they are happy and not causing harm to others - God is happy for us.

I have faith that God will not cast aside those that love openly and freely even if they are the same sex!

I have faith that God will not cast aside those that sit in judgement of his children.

Our faiths differ. I am not challenging right to beleive these things, but I am curious what the origin of your faith is. In my view, faith comes from 1) Experiencing God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and 2) From what I have read in the Bible (which has always been born out by my experiences with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Since you discard parts of the Bible, I am curious, Does your faith come from your experiences of God or from another source. Not to be insulting, but it sounds as if you have formed parts of your faith on the basis of what you would like God to be. (I think we all do this to some extent. We want our Grandfather in Heaven, instead of our father in Heaven.) Unfortunately, I feel that our limited understanding of God means that some of the things we would like God to be (as wonderful and right as these expectations seem to our understanding) are not accurate.

Please help me to understand. How did you come to the faith that you stated earlier? Again, I am not trying to challenge or insult you, I just want to understand where you are coming from.

And your reasoning for that opinion is...?

I know you for one don't believe in the Bible, or should I say all of the Bible. If you're professing a faith in Christianity however, you can't deny the Bible is the word of God. Sure, you can say you believe whatever you want, but that doesn't make it so. The Bible is quite clear in what your salvation consists of. You must accept Christ as your savior. If you've reached the age of accountability and have not done so, it doesn't matter how you have lived, or what you believe, you will not be saved!

I love the poetry of the KGV, but isn't it supposed to be one of the worst translations as far as being true to the original texts? I parked next to a van today that had a bumper sticker that said, "If it's not the King James Version, it ain't the Bible.":(

Does anyone else use an Oxford annotated RSV Bible? It is a wonderful study Bible b/c the footnotes refer you to other books and verses and also make note of possible translation issues. I got it in college when I took my first Bible class (with a reknowned scholar/teacher who was an ordained minister and dedicated Christian). My church also uses the RSV.

The word of God is the same yesterday, today and forever. If you are a true christian and you have real faith, you can't live any old way you want to because you feel bad about it. You just don't want to live the way you use to.
