Hi,

We're taking our 4 year old granddaughter to Disney in September and my wife would like to take her to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to have the Castle Package. She would also like to take her to Cinderella's Royal Table [hopefully to meet Princess Aurora]. Of course this all depends if we can book it.

Could anyone please give some advice on the following questions.

1 Do you think the BBB is worth the money?

2 What is the dress code at Cinderella's Royal Table?

3 How long do the children normally keep the hair style in [ I know this can vary but just a rough guide] as I have read of one girl who did not wash it out for a week and another who washed it out after a day.

All help really appreciated.

Lyndon :)

Hi

We have taken my daughter to the BBB three times and she has loved it each time.

The first time when she was 4 we went for package one down from castle so she just had her hair, make up and nails done. Her hair that time stayed in for about 2 days - she loved it and only agreed to take it out because she wanted to go swimming. I don't think we did a princess meal that day I think she went to Alice's tea party at the GF which she really enjoyed

And on the day after - hair still more or less in place

The next year she went for the complete package and I think she loved it more because she got all the princess clothes and had a photo shoot as well.

I'm not sure that I thought it was great value for money for a couple of reasons. I didn't think the 'professional' photos were great and that part of the process seemed rather rushed. The photographer didn't have long to spend taking photos of each 'princess'. Having said that although the photos weren't great they were nicely presented and are a nice souvenir to have.

I was more disappointed with the quality of the clothes. DD decided to be Jasmin. The clothes looked great to begin with but after what I suppose was quite a long day at Epcot most of the sequins had fallen off and the shoes were worn out. So much so that I took them back to the shop at the Wilderness Lodge, where we were saying and got a full refund for then. DD wasn't too bothered - I thought she would be really upset but I think she was happy that she'd worn them and we used the refund to buy her something else.

I also think that it's quite easy to get sucked into buying items that will never be used again. For example a pair of white gloves which supposedly went with the outfit but can't really imagine why and which were worn for the photoshoot and never again :confused3

We had dinner with the princesses at Akerhaus as we personally prefer the food to CRT - but I do fully appreciate that eating at the castle isn't just about the food :)

The last time we went in 2010 dd decided on Tiana and again went for the full package. We went to BBB at DTD and it was really busy and the service was slow. There was also a problem. They didn't have any Tiana shoes in my dd's size. I was a bit cross as they kept us waiting ages while they tried to find some. So long in fact that I think they were slightly emmbarrassed and brought my dd a lovely Tiana pin in a gift box into the changing room and told her that Tiana had sent it as she was having a problem finding her some shoes. They found her some rainbow shoes in the end - the fitted but looked horrible with her dress, but as they gave them us for free I couldn't really complain :) and dd loved them and they were really comfortable as well - just a bit garish

After waiting about 45 mins we were told that they had found a pair at the Contemporary Resort but we would have to go and get them. As another treat for waiting so long dd got to have her makeover in the window so she could be seen by all the passers by - she loved it :thumbsup2

When we went next door for the photoshoot I decided to have a word with guest relations - just to say we were disappointed that such a vital part of the outfit was out of stock and surely they must have an idea of how many pairs of shoes they need :confused3 I told him about a pair being found but said that we had already waited nearly an hour for them to find some and now it was going to take ages to go and get them. The man I was speaking to said what did I want him to do about it. I said nothing I just wanted to tell someone that I didn't think it was very good - if you are turning little girls into princesses all day make sure you have enough stock to do it :scared1:

It's here that Disney Customer Service came into play - he arranged for a driver to take us to the Contemporary and wait while we picked up the shoes - slight problem they couldn't find them when we got there - by this time I was feeling sorry for our driver. He made a few phone calls and went up to the shop. After another long wait he appeared with the right shoes :thumbsup2

He then gave us a lift back to the beach club to dump our stuff in our room. Then took us to the MK via the back route which was really interesting. He parked at the back of main street and we emerged through a building already in the park on main street.

He took us over to guest relations and gave us 5 FP's each and a $100 gift card. I was a bit embarressed really as the compensation seemed to exceed the original problem.

Just one final point to the story DD left her wand in the minivan and when we got back to the beach club later it was there waiting for her :):)

Dress was much better this time and dd got loads of wear out of it. Hair lasted about 2 days again.

We are going to Disney again in August this year. And dd is booked in again for BBB. I've only booked her in for the hair and makeup this time but have a feeling that when we get there and she sees all the dresses we could be upgrading. I suppose this will probably be the last year she'll want to do it anyway. Although not sure what DH will say about the upgrade as she had the difference in price between the 2 packages to complete / top up her iPad fund :scared1:

DD has loved every visit to the BBB and it has definitely made her visits more special.

I have booked BBB at MK for my 2 youngers DDs. who will be 5 and 8. I decided to go for the middle package as DD (8) thinks she is too old to be a princess and DD (5) can't stand anything itchy against her skin. We will take our own outfits.

We have booked Akershus for lunch as the photo package is included with the meal. As we have prepaid for the Photopass, I am hoping that there will be some nice photos of the makeover and the big 'reveal' at BBB.

I love the look of the costumes at BBB and the previous poster's DD looks adorable but they are expensive and I know that mine would prefer their own outfits, although I will treat them to some new accessories on the day.

We had a fantastic time at BBB. Thought it would be dull for the adult, but the Photopass photographer and the girl doing my daughter's hair were very entertaining.

We went for the middle package. She had the Disney Diva style. Kept the hairpiece in all that day but switched it for a Mickey scrunchie the following day, then swimming took priority...

Not sure you need to splash out on the photo package. We had photos taken in the shop next door in a special area and they just got added to our photopass. Also took our own dress. Our daughter is a bit older and didn't want a princess dress, but even that got swapped for a vest top and skirt because of the heat!

Anyway, it's definitely worth doing, but also worth considering which bits you definitely want to be paying for.

Thank you everyone for your help :thumbsup2

Had a talk to the boss [wife] and she would like to do the full package.

This might be the last time my wife goes to Disney as she does not like hot weather. The last three times I went with our children my wife stayed home. She is only coming because our granddaughter is so excited and has asked her nana to come with her.

My wife said that seeing as she is going she would like to make it really special for our granddaughter [I am sure every grandparent and parent feels the same way] so just this once she will spoil her a bit more than normal.

Purplejam beautiful photos she obviously enjoyed it :)

Once again thank you everyone.

Lyndon :)

Do you have to schedule the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to get an appointment at Downtown Disney or just inside Magic Kingdom? We are taking our first trip and I would love for my 3yo daughter to do it but would hate to schedule it then get there and her not want to. I was hoping to be able to "walk-in" at Downtown Disney if she decided that she wanted to be a princess.

Chances of a walk in are slim.

eg when we went in May lastminute I called the week before - there was one opening all week at either BBB which I took.

They just charage $10 if you fail to attend your appointment (24 hour cancellation) If you turned up and your DD didn't want to do it I can't see them enforcing the charge.

My DD has done it aged 3, 4, 5 and 6 - always has the middle package $60 and take a dress from home.

Oh my DD has been to BBB every trip we have had and the memories are just precious. Our first trip she was 4 and she'll be 11 this September but still wants to go in August! (I really do think that this will be her last time tho sadly)

Its become a tradition with us now that she goes to BBB on our last full day then we eat at CRT for our last evening. Last trip she went to the BBB in the castle on Xmas day, but she likes the one at downtown Disney better so I've booked for there this time. I have only ever bought the costume there once, every other time we have been I have taken a costume with us which has been much better quality and value.

Everyone is different I know, but you get the professional photographer's photo shoot for free and the pictures put on the photopass card, so I only ever book the coach package as the other packages just didn't seem worth the extra money. The coach package in my opinion is worth every penny just to see your little one's face when she has been transformed

If we took our own costume where is the best place to buy it from, UK or USA?

Lyndon :)

I second ebay! TBH the costumes in the Disney Store here are generally not as nice as the one's in the US, having said that, you don't have to stick to the Disneystore brand, you will find others that are nicer. I was in TK Maxx the other day and they had tons of costumes, also most of the bigger supermarkets like Asda and Tesco have a full range of costumes now. If all else fails, you can still buy one over there and it still works out cheaper than doing the full package :thumbsup2:

Most of DD's have been picked up on ebay.

People sell on genuine disney world ones that maybe have just been worn at BBB. They are lovely dresses - very pouffy and sparkly. They sell at $65 plus tax in the parks.

A genuine disney world Alice dress new - went for £5.99 plus postage on ebay last week (sadly it was too small for DD so i couldn't bid)

I also like Travis dresses (they sell on ebay) - an english company who do beautiful quality dresses. Not cheap but DD has always had lots of compliments in those ones.

I have bought Disney World Tinkerbell and Sleeping Beauty dresses, both for under a fiver. Stephanie (Dixonsontour) recommended Travis dresses and I bought one of those too - they are lovely.:thumbsup2 I am addicted to buying costumes lol.

Last trip onsite we went with literally a suitcase full of princess dresses! DH had 3 outfits (I did use the laundry at OKW!) DD wants to still dress up this time which I am pleased about (she will be 6 3/4 in October)
