How quickly does it sell out? I am wanting to schedule a date in October -- do I need to make sure i schedule it on the 180th day or do I have some time?

If you're particular about your time, I'd schedule as soon as possible. The early times in the MK go faster. (You can actually get early park entry).

I think you are fine to wait some. I got an appointment just one month in advance for January. It didn't matter to me what time or day though.

The Downtown Disney location seems to have spaces available all the time. We leave in a week and there were still plenty of spots.

Depends. Last year we went on a (very) last minute trip and I was able to get a morning MK appointment the day before. This year, I have a DTD appointment and have been trying and trying to switch it to MK and have so far been unsuccessful. (Hopefully I'll get a last minute cancellation this year too!)
