Any parents of their own special princesses will soon have yet another way to make the little ones happy at WDW.

Disney has announced plans to open a children's salon in the huge World of Disney store at Downtown Disney. The 10-chair salon, expected to open in April, will be called Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and will offer various beauty treatments for the kiddie set.

The most expensive package will include hair, makeup and nails -- and don't forget the princess gown and a glam photo. What'll that set you back? Cost is expected to be around $100. The addition of the boutique is in part to celebrate World of Disney's 10th anniversary this year.

I am probably alone here...but there is just something wrong with a small child having her nails and makeup done. Just wrong. What little girl needs that? And, what signal does it send to them?

It is "dress up"..... pretend.
Lots of little girls want to be Cinderella, so why not let them get "done up" for a day?

I think it will be great! Too bad ....... I have 2 grandsons that won't be able to get "dressed up" as princes!
But wouldn't that be fun too!! have a salon for boys too... they can get all made up to look like pirates or princes! :rotfl:

yes, I agree it sounds like a cute idea, and I imagine if money was no object, it would be something worth doing.
however...
I have a hard time forking over $30 for a hair wrap, let alone $100 for fake hair/nails. I'd rather spend the money on something that they can hold on to for a long long time..a collectible of some sort, you know? Not something that's going to fall off/out in a week...

Very cute idea! The price is a little steep I think...but still a unique concept! I know my DD would have LOVED it when she was younger (heck, probably still would!)

See...I knew I would be alone here! :rotfl: I love to see the little girls dressed up like a princess it that is what they like...but I just can't stand to see 7 year olds in make up, with professionally done nails. Reminds me of poor little Jon Benet.

They took out the Large Alice in the Stuffed Animals area in the World of Disney, Im thinking thats where they are putting it!

I think that is such a cute idea! My dd loves that kind of thing! She also understands that she can't have makeup and stuff like that every day and it is for special days.

In some malls there are shops that have that kind of thing and I saw some pictures of a friends little girl and it was cute.

JMHO here folks, but i have trouble forking over that kind of cash on my little one for such pampering - i can't rationalize doing for myself and i am busting my hump 40 hours out of the house each week and then another untold number of hours while at home to make that kind of cash - and i certainly have never pampered myself to that extent. (i am a sales rack kind of girl who paints her own nails and plucks her own eyebrows.)

We will buy our princess dress and accessories at WalMart, and i will do her up fancy with her Tinkerbelle or BOPO little girl cosmetics and a nice up-doo and take her picture on my own thanks. here's hoping she will feel just as special and pretty.

not passing any judgement on those who see it being worth the expenditure, but just not our cup of tea.

Some people may have trouble accepting this type of service for their children (me being one of them); however, there is a huge market/industry out their just for kids. Kids today are getting everything for themselves; i.e. kids photo studios, kids clothing shops, kids boutiques. Places that specialize in kids merchandise or services are making it big today. This will be no exception. This boutique will more than likely succeed. Not only that I would predict with only 10 seats they will fill-up daily with waits. Who knows you may have to make PS/ADR 6 months after it opens :rotfl2:
I could see it happening.

My DD is going to be 8 when we go in December. I think she is already too old for the full package--she wouldn't want to dress up anymore--plus $100 is a little steep given as another poster said you can get the costumes a little cheaper elsewhere--

However. My DD goes to private school all year. No jewelry, no nail polish allowed. I have no problem with her getting her hair cut (its just a bob) or getting a french braid with pixie dust in it for a day and getting a manicure with that pale pink polish. I agree I don't like makeup--but I really wonder if they would even offer that for little ones. I'll bet its more than likely some pixie dust and a little crown and maybe some nail polish with sparkles in it.

We were planning a visit to the GF on our first day to get the My First Manicure package for DD--I'll have to check on this place and maybe we'll venture out to DD instead!

At home I would say that this is a little extravagant. But when on vacation I would love for DW to take my dd for something like this. I don't believe I would get the entire package but something a little less. But I would see at as going to get massage or spa treatment when down there. A little pampering on vacation is a good thing.

I was wondering if anyone knows when in April is it scheduled to open. I might have to check it out for my daughter on our April trip. She will be celebrating her birthday while we are there April 7th thru the 15th.

World of Disney is already a traffic jam with too many people in it. Now they are taking up even more room for this. It sounds like a cute idea that may not be for everyone, but I really wish they would have put it someplace else to try and ease the hectic floorplan of that store

Nope, you're not alone. My DD is 6 and I won't allow her to go to "makeup parties". To me there is a difference between dressup in a gown and a crown and Libby Lu's but that's just me.

Every time I hear about the parties with the makeup and nailpolish and the girls prancing about I think of Jon Benet too. Glad to hear I'm not alone in thinking they grow up fast enough without encouraging it as a fun thing. :wave2:

I'll be interested to see what they actually end up doing for little ones. My daughter will be turning four on our trip and has never had her hair cut. I was planning on taking her to the Main Street Barber shop, since I know they make a bit of a fuss about it, but maybe the new salon might do something extra-special for girls? No way will I let them put make-up on her beautiful face and her daddy HATES it when she shows up with nail polish (they very occassionally paint their nails at daycare on slow days - nothing garish so no flames please! Besides, on 3 yr old fingers it never lasts long - she picks it off before bedtime.)

A first haircut from a salon established by the Fairy Godmother for my Cinderella-crazy daughter? Just maybe . . .

WDWfor5 - I couldn't agree more. My five year-old goes into a trance when we walk past Libby Lu's in our local mall. Her eyes roll backwards in her head and she is drawn inexorably toward the door - but I have never bought anything for her there and have shot down her repeated pleas to have her birthday there. I don't mind a little pink nail polish or kiddy make-up sets, but the sexualization of pre-pubescent girls really bothers me. She see glamour, I see pedophile bait. Having said that, DD got her hair poufed at the Main Street barber shop before lunch at Cindy's, and couldn't have been more pleased. I changed her back into her shorts after lunch, but she wouldn't relinquish the crown and pixie dusted pouf until she got into bed that night.
