Does anybody have these? Not sure if it's a common type. Is it east to adjust to looking in the right point?

I'm having trouble with the new glasses I have due to the weight of the glasses on the bridge of my nose - they are the lightest that the place I went has....I have a few more days to return. So, I'm hoping that contacts maybe an option?

Looking for honest thoughts and opinions.

I had them a few years ago...they worked for like 10 years, finally as my eyes got older (& me), I could see much better with glasses. (My doc said it would not really make any difference in even changing brands) It was very easy to get used to the contacts as they are prescribed by determining your dominant eye for which ever long distance/closeup vision problem is more severe. I was told your brain automatically allows the dominant eye to adapt and had absolutely no trouble focusing -

About 10 years ago I had a contact prescription that was supposed to simulate bifocals. They adjusted one contact for long vision and the other contact for close vision. I couldn't adjust to the prescription, and gave up wearing contacts.

I wear multifocal lenses and I didn't have any trouble getting used to them at all. I didn't have much trouble with bifocal eyeglasses, either, but those have progressive lenses and don't have that line inbetween the two parts of the lens.

Love, love, love them. I have Air optix Aqua by ciba. so very comfortable. they are multifocal lenses. I have a common condition called Presbyopia which is latin for "old eyes". LOL. gotta love the irony.

Anyhoo, there are monthly lenses. I wear them usually 5 days a week and on saturday & sunday I wear my glasses. very comfortable and I can usually tell when they get dirty because they get dry and scratchy. A tad bit expensive though. I buy mines on line at vision direct. 35 bucks a box. 1 box has 6 lenses which is enough for 3 months but the price does drop if you buy 4 boxes at a time and there is usual a 10 or 20 dollar rebate.

good luck. I enjoy my contacts especially in the summer because I don't have to worry about having prescription sunglasses.

Like eliza61 I also have multifocal contact lens. Mine are Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear Plus for Presbyopia.

For the most part they are very comfortable and I love being able to read without glasses. As I've gotten older and my eyes drier, I wear my invisible bifocal glasses more now and I always wear my contacts full time when on vacation. I have no trouble switching between glasses and contacts.

I still had some regular contacts to use up when I first got the multifocal ones and I found it very annoying not to be able to see close up so gave up on the regular contacts lens all together!

My sister just asked me the same thing about wearing multifocal lens and I suggested that she ask her optometrist for a test pair to try out, which is what mine did.

I tried the mono vision (one contact adjusted for reading) but didn't really like it.

I've been in multifocal contacts for about 8 years now. I never wore bifocals or progressives before that and I don't know whether that made it easier to adjust to the multifocal contacts. One eye is more effective for near vision and one is more effective for distances but both work for intermediate vision (like the computer or Kindle).

Gigi22 had what is commonly referred to as monovision, where one eye is corrected for near vision and the other is corrected for distance. It's not the same as having multifocal lenses but the idea is the same. It takes a little bit of time for your brain to make the adjustment. I think that I was told it can take up to 2 weeks.

It took a couple of tries to get the prescription right. But my doctor gave me free trial lenses to use with each small change until he and I were both satisfied with the sharpness.

I'm currently in the Ciba Acuvue Oasys multifocals but I've also been in the Bauch & Lomb Purevision multifocals and CooperVision Proclear multifocals. My doctor put me in the Acuvues because I abuse my lenses (wear them the entire month and sleep in them). The Acuvue are healthier for the eyes of people who do that.

I am going back tomorrow and will ask about these also. My sister uses them and really likes them.

Right now I have contacts for far away and I am not liking them at all. They are good when I run and that's about it. *sigh* I'm just hoping the doctor will work with me on this.

Good luck!

I had them for a while but have gone back to regular contacts. I had no problem at all adjusting and at first I thought they were great. The issue I had was that as I age my near vision continues to degrade and I found that while my distance vision was properly corrected, continued degradation of my near vision resulted in my wearing multi focal contacts and still correcting with readers on top of that. I pretty much lost the benefit of the multi focals (which were more expensive) because I still had to wear the readers.

Well I called the eye Dr. and was told it was an option. I have an appt. on Friday to try to figure out if I can get a type that doesn't correct for my slight astigmatism. Otherwise the cost of the lenses would be too much for me to afford.

We shall see.

You'll still need glasses for when you cannot wear the contacts. Are your lenses the lightweight plastic? I wear progressive lenses. They would be pretty thick and heavy if they were actual glass.
