Day 5 Cozumel Wed., Jan. 30, 2008 Physical torture at sea!
This was both the best & worst day of my cruise.
Hola Mexico! thats what we said from the comfort of our verandah, as we never left the ship this day!
Awake time was a pleasurable late hour as most everyone else was running off the ship. We headed to our regular breakfast at Topsiders. Then it was my morning the day at the pool, where my only goal was to feel like a warm lump of goo.
Around noon we peeled ourselves up and sauntered down to Goofys for another Turkey & Bacon Panini. I then happily returned to the pool deck with a great book. Meanwhile, BF Kara was slathering on layer number 10 of her SPF 48. (Were both very fair-skinned; unfortunately, Kara takes on a likeness of a lobster, while I luckily do not.) I soaked in my Vitamin D until about 3pm.
We headed back to the room for Kara to enjoy the shade of the verandah, while I ventured down to the spa for the Frangipani Scalp & Neck treatment. Keep in mind Ive only been to a spa once before the Spa at the Princeville on Kauai, Hawaii. It was me, BF, her aunt, & her sister. We got a full massage & facial treatment and I HATED every moment of it. So this time I decided to try a shorter & more targeted treatment.
I was given a locker key, told to remove my shirt, & put on a short robe. Next I was taken to the salon & a regular hairstyling chair. The view out the window would have been incredible, except by this time of 4:30pm, the sun was going down & right in the window. Thus, my person pulled the shade.
I was asked if I had any allergies or special issues to address (no). I was then told to simply relax. The next thing I know, warm oil is being applied to my scalp (eww).
Why did I sign-up for this? Then the top of my robe was moved aside and the same (slimy) oil was applied to my shoulders. When is this going to be over? She noted my stress as I simply was not relaxing my shoulders in fact, I tensed every time she dug in. Finally, I was being told about all the products. I SO did not care about this goo! Then I was told a refreshing cooling solution would be applied to my neck. Refreshing?! Cooling?! It was like alcohol being poured into a fresh wound! IT STUNG! Get me out of here!
Seemingly forever later, I was released to the locker room. Instead of running back to the stateroom, I stripped and couldnt get in that shower fast enough!
I didnt care what shampoo & conditioner was in there just get this stuff off me! A long while later I emerged, dressed, and completely wiped out, trudged back to the room.
Kara eagerly asked how it was & I just growled. A second shower in just as many minutes to use my own products to fully rid myself of that poison was in order. And no stress I just had to get ready to go to Palo!
Although I have fine hair, it always seems to take forever to dry. This time was no exception. However, my hair was silky smooth. Weird. I kept drying & drying, & drying. Apparently my hair was dry, but it was STICK Straight. Never in my life has my hair been stick straight; it always has a natural wave to it. Great the planned photos for tonight would never work now.
Oh well, it will be great food.
As an aside we were docked directly across from a Norwegian ship. It was a typical stare-off between the passengers of both ships. The Disney guests looked happier in general & were able to board the ship about 100 yards closer. But the odd part was an ambulance pulled up to the Norwegian ship.
It must have taken an hour for their passenger to be brought off the ship. I couldnt imagine what could have happened or the thought of being in a Mexican hospital
At 7pm we arrived at Palo and again were lucky enough to get a window seat,
even though it was already nearly dark. I ordered the same appetizer I had in Sept. the margarita pizza,
while Kara ordered one with shrimp? and asparagus.
To cleanse our palate, we had a lovely pineapple sorbet that I downed and I dont even like pineapples! For my entrée I (again) ordered the same from Sept. the Lobster & Marzcapone(?) Ravioli YUM! (Sorry I was so excited we ate all the food & forgot to take the photos!) Kara ordered the Risotto. Having a bite of it, I agreed it was also good. Our server had Kara try a Chocolate Martini, but it wasnt to her likely & thus, summarily taken away.
Time for the big moment desserts! I MADE Kara order the Chocolate Soufflé. Why make? Because she doesnt like anything gooey dont ask. They arrived & I dove in. Kara tried, but just couldnt do it. We were then brought a beautiful dessert beverage in a double shot glass. It contained vodka, champagne, & lemon sorbet. I really dont care for champagne. So I finished off Karas soufflé, while she downed both shots! We both left very happy!
Soon we were headed to Deck 10 for the Pirate Party & Fireworks.
As we had already videoed this, Kara just took a million photos (as usual).
With the crowd & being stuffed from Palo, we skipped the buffet and rolled ourselves to the room.
Next up: Another glorious Day at Sea!
