Beware the deadly DCL DVD!!!

BEWARE: It only gets worse. After six cruises we have three more booked through 2006. We enjoy each cruise more than the last.

Does the DVD really help with withdrawl? :confused3

Within days, I was dragging the kids into my dirty little habit. "Come on, just watch the part about the kids' clubs again" I'd say with a desperate smile. As their friends waited impatiently outside, I scanned their faces for signs of excitement. Weary after the third time, they finally refused. Rotten kids!
We're cruising in less than a month and are excited beyond belief!!! That said, however, I gotta agree with your kids - the DVD's pretty boring! The tape we got a couple years ago for the VCR is much better. The basic problem with the DVD is that aside from the intro (which is a shortened version of the VCR loop) it's pretty disjointed, with a lot of searching around for short video clips. Bring on the real thing, and in lieu of that Disboards!!!

We always get our "fixes" from all the Disney Vacation Planning DVDs. It's actually an event in my house....we order pizza and have friends over to watch the latest DVD that rolls in (sad, isn't it?!) We have gotten DCL DVDs for years but never planned a cruise until now. As I was making the calls to get rates the other day, a new Cruise Line DVD came in the mail! Fate!!! I was psyched!!! Of course I ran out the buy the latest Birnbaum's & tomorrow I'll get the Passporter. That along with checking the boards 100 times a day helps with getting my "fix". I can't wait!!!!

It's so funny that this thread should appear at the top of my screen when I sign on this evening!!! We're going on our first Magic cruise in September.

Just Friday night, we had some friends over, and were trying to talk them into going with us! They have never been on a cruise, and were looking at our photos from our Wonder Cruise in '03.
They said, "well, we were wanting to take a big vacation this year...maybe..."
I left the room, returned with the DCL planning DVD, and the rest is HISTORY!!!! They said "sign us up!" We now have dinner-mates for our cruise!!!

They ACTUALLY accused us of being paid commission on their cruise booking! They think Disney MUST be paying us to rave so enthusiastically about the cruise!!! :rotfl: :rotfl2:
We said "Nope, it's just that good!"

So now my dilemma is that I've opened up a can of worms...I've watched the DVD...now I want to watch it ALL THE TIME!!!

So I feel your pain...LOL :flower:

Wow, it is great to hear we're not alone! When you can't seem to convince anyone else in your family to join your "madness" you can begin to doubt yourself and your DCL convictions. But it's threads like these that give me the courage to try and convince them one more time to give the cruise a try. We can't all be wrong! And we do watch the planning video/DVD and our videos from past cruises on a very regular basis. :earseek: Our kids are willing participants, though - we got them hooked early on! And now it's spilled over into our trip to Disneyland we're planning for our daughter's graduation. We had gone there when we only had two kids (last time 11 years ago) and had bought a Disneyland Sing-a-long because it was all filmed at the park. So we could feel like we were visiting when we watched it. Now when we found we weren't able to get a video to plan this trip to DL, we had to pull out this old VHS tape just to get our "fix." I am happy to report, it has helped. Then it will be back to DCL planning again for Feb 06. :Pinkbounc I have to say our jobs are defintely interfereing with our Disney time! :earboy2:

...is admitting that you have a problem.

And the problem for most of US (see, I'm admitting that I have the problem, too) is not the obsession...it is the amount of time remaining between now and our next DCL cruise...

And I am saying this with a countdown at about 40 days or so...and barely a month since my last one...

So my suggestion for those with a countdown clock at 300 or 400 or 500 and getting the shakes from waiting on the DVD, or having to leave the DVD home when going to work, is this...

Book another one for the interim, BEFORE the one already on the countdown...

Who said that Disney was free from the smut of seduction, we've all been seduced...by DCL...

I loved this thread because it is so me! I found this board about two weeks ago while preparing for our second DCL trip but was nervous about registering and getting involved, but I'm glad to know there's others like me out there. Thanks for the laugh!

I can completely understand!! I tend to alternate between the WDW DVD and the DCL DVD. I'm surprised I haven't worn them out by now!

this place is awful :flower:, it takes up all my time. everyone here is just so great to read about. i told my dh the other day i might have to take a second job to pay for my trip, he said "why don't you just WORK at the one you have" lol!

Once an addict...always an addict! You never actually get cured...you learn how to deal and manage your addiction. I've seen it before! 1st it's the brochures!...that is good for a couple of weeks!...Then comes the websites, until your craving gets even greater! Finally, your on to videos! The hard stuff! Stealing a peak when ever you get a chance! Soon that won't be enough, and you will be calling Disney phone numbers to hear cast member voices! But, it becomes a real problem when you are dragging family members into your world! REFRAIN PEOPLE! :sad2:

It also doesnt help when you have the Disney Cruise Line special from the Travel Channel on your TIVO......I just finished watching again,:hyper: and getting goosebumps - I wanna go NOW!!! :hourglass

Patiently (well sort of) waiting for October!!!

You guys are cracking me up! Yes, I too am a DCL DVD junkie (and I cry at it too! ), and we haven't even gone on our cruise yet! I'm such a sad case, but from what I've seen, I'm not alone! :grouphug:

And yes, the latest (2:00 am) special is on my TiVo and I've had DS watch it instead of his normal cartoons while getting ready in the morning.

I'm glad to see that I'm in good company (and yes, this is my third trip to these boards today).

Boy, you are BAAAD! If I remember correctly...I warned you about how addictive the boards are a couple of weeks ago and here you are...

And did you not say...

It currently seems that the boards are the only fun I'm getting at the current time.
Therefore I must protest you using us junkie dependant addictive persons as the object of your humor unless you abandon your cloak of denial and admit to being one of us forthwith, or you shall be forced to walk the plank! I know where you'll be in May.....
