Beware of the Cute Tinkerbell Cups!

A friend just lost his snow globes at the airport...same thing...the liquid. Nicest older gentleman anyone would ever want to know. He was probabaly bring them back for his grandkids. :sad2:

I agree with Schmeck. I'd rather they take too much precaution than not enough. I experienced 9/11 5 blocks from Ground Zero, so I'd rather have them search my bags (I've gotten those notes in my bags saying they've searched them several times, doesn't bother me one bit) and take away my lip balm than risk going through another 9/11, or perhaps something worse than that day.

I don't think TSA are being stupid, I think they are doing their job and we should all be grateful to them. Yes, it's inconvenient, but look at what our other option is, I'd rather have a few inconvenient moments. Heck, I can't even get on my ferry going home from work without possibly being stopped by NYPD to check my bag. They stop every person with a suitcase and have the dogs sniff them and they have 4 cops at the top of the escalator watching to see if someone needs to be searched. It takes one minute out of my day when they stop me and look in my bag, and I think it's worth it if it means I'll get home safely.

I know the OP's post was meant 1) to be funny and 2) to remind us all that we need to remember that everything is subject to scrutiny, but some of the responses were a bit off base.

Yes, they have used all that stuff....notice they have never used anything twice... and not because the TSA is really doing much (1/2 of them are just on mega powertrips b/c they get to tell people what they can or can't do/take etc). Lots of times the TSA people don't check shoes even if you are wearing tennies. IMO, nothing has made us any safer and if someone really wants to do something bad, they will find a way to do it.

<putting on flame suit- but doesn't care>

I brought snowglobes back with me in May, no problem. And they were in my carry-on.

I had the same experience with a snow globe on Aug 19th - Didn't even occur to me that it was a liquid. A TSA agent escorted me out of the line and I ran over to the Disney store in MCO and paid an additional 10.95 to ship the snow globe back so I didn;'t have to walk all the way back to Airtran's checkin. The TSA agent told me the Disney store would ship it free - I told afterward that it wasn't free so he didn't give some else wrong info.

Moral of the story: When in doubt, pack it in your checked luggage.

As the original poster......
I was yes... 1) trying to make light of the situation..... and 2) give everyone a hint to remind them things we would NEVER think of are being pulled out of luggage.
Although we thought it was ridiculous, I NEVER said that I did not want the security agents to do their job. We knew the entire time they were very serious on upholding the rules at the airport. Although we may have rolled our eyes :sad2: and mumbled under our breath :confused3 , there was never an argument or scene.
Trust me, there was enough of a scene watching FIVE grown men going through our carry on, unwrapping the offending item, to have them find a TINKERBELL Cup! :rotfl2:

Like many posts, they sometimes take different directions than the original poster had anticipated. I did not want this to be a discussion on terrorism - just a fun discussion on souvenier packing!

Security theater, that's all. Just a big show to make people feel safer. Just like the bag checks at WDW - I sometimes carry my poncho in a pocket in my shorts which makes them have a huge bulge, not once have I been asked to show what's in the pocket. I could have had anything.

Those who really want to harm us can find a million ways to get around these silly security measures.

Are they searching you pockets- lip balm or chapstick doesn't have any metal so if it was in a pocket of pant or a top who would even notice it?

actualy lately with the frequent orange level. I have seen TSA agenst going through peoples carry ons randomly before passengers get on the flight

Absolutely true!!!! :thumbsup2

Personally it doesn't make me feel safer since I know there are ways to get around the security. I realize any semi intelligent terrorist can figure out ways around the system.

David -
I know you were being serious, but your post just made me chuckle. ;)
All I kept imagining was the security staff arguing over who was going to have to investigate the "huge bulge".

You never know when Tinker Bell is going to strike. Remember how she had wanted to bump off Wendy? :rotfl:

Just relaying my TSA experience comparing two different airports. One was at Manchester, NH airport: DD-16 was mortified to have her backpack searched because her iPod headphone wires showed up on the xray machine. They took her aside and searched every nook and cranny of that backpack. Once they discovered it was as iPod, they seriously searched every inch of the iPod as well, turning it over and over, whispering and murmurming about it (like every teenager on the planet doesn't have one of these)!?!?!?! Still, at least they were being thorough.

On the flip side, we flew out of Boston last Feb. and DH put his fanny pack on the conveyer, it went through fine and they gave it back to him at the end. We headed to the gate and decided to get a quick bite to eat and when DH opened his fanny pack to get his wallet, noticed that his "Leatherman" was in the pack! He hadn't used the pack in quite a while and didn't realize the tool was in it. For those who don't know what this is, it's a folding utility tool, sort of like a Swiss Army knife, but it has multiple knife blades, screwdriver tips, etc. on it. This was one of the bigger ones....probably 6 inches long or so. It went through Boston security just fine, with no questions.

I think I much prefer being "inconvenienced" on the side of safety.

But, OP, I just love how you relayed your experience....I was laughing out loud at work (not a good thing, BTW!!) Glad DD's cup made it home safely!
