Beware of stroller theives!

To get back on topic, just thought I'd let people who do bring strollers know something that happened to us last spring. We brought our own stroller (the horrors!) and locked it up while we were all on the Haunted Mansion. When we came out, the lock had actually been cut, but the stroller was still there. It would have been awful to lose it. We sure didn't let it out of our sight for the rest of the trip, which was fine because our baby spent most of the trip sleeping on it!

Weird. Did you lock it to a fence or light post? If so, then a CM may have cut it as you're never supposed to do that. But if you just locked its wheels, I don't see why a thief would go to the trouble to cut the lock but not steal the stroller.

So glad we've never needed/used strollers. DD4, DS2, and another on the way. Wraps are the best! All strollers do is clog up the park and slow you down. If you have a special needs child who needs one, no problem. Able bodied kids with able bodied parents sure don't need them!

I'm a die-hard babywearer, but you're going too far. Those things can be thought, but really shouldn't be said.

We didn't even own a stroller until DS was 2, and then we got a jogging stroller. For jogging. Then we bought an umbrella stroller specifically for Disneyland.

Wearing DS in the Ergo on my back when he was 2 was awesome and has some wonderful memories, but eventually I got tired (that kid is tall and I'm short, and I got tired of him kicking the backs of my knees) and we would get hot. He would walk, but then get tired. So yay for strollers at that point.

As for the poster who posted about carriers, they're great if you don't have a bad back. when our kids were infants they practically lived in the bijorn, but now that they're older its all about the stroller.

In case you have future babies, since you have a bad back, do not use the Bjorn ever again. Those are just about the WORST carriers you can use, both for you and the baby. Get something like an Ergo (ergo stands for ergonomic!) or Beco, and whatever you do do not wear your baby facing forward on your front. Wearing babies that way is bad for the pelvis of the baby (unless you've got a wrap and the baby's legs are folded up) and really awful for the adult's back; you can feel every movement the child makes, and your spinal muscles are reacting with every single movement they make. It's FAR better for the spine to wear them facing your front, or to have them facing forward *on your back*.

You pay your $15, and they give you a stroller with a piece of paper with your last name to stick on top of the stroller.

Which you don't even have to use.

So how do you lock the wheels on a phil n ted's stroller?

Lock the back wheels together. That way you have to tip it forward to move it. CMs can do it when they need to move the stroller, but a thief will leave it alone.

Depends on the stroller. Umbrella stroller - sure. These:

That's just two umbrella strollers side by side. Connected, sure, but would you rather pass one person pushing that, or two adults pushing one each? Because if you think about it, those two adults will be probably another stroller's width apart from each other, making it a triple-width for you to deal with. And they'll both be steering separately, avoiding things on the sidewalk, etc, and being extra hard to pass.

I do agree with you on the kids-sitting-on-shoulders thing! It's not allowed in my household. If DS wanted up, he got on my hip. That way he was as tall as me; since I could see, he could see. Then he would get on my back, still just as tall as me. Now, however, at a whopping 8 years old his head is above my shoulder, and those days are done. :)

To those who steal strollers I have to wonder if they aim to sell them at flea markets?

Probably. Or online. Thieves are everywhere!

We stopped leaving our stuff in the strollers after our second trip when we had a brand new pirate hat stolen from under a ratty sweatshirt in the bottom of the rental stroller. Then on a future trip a FREE balloon was stolen from the rental. (from the way it was taken, we could tell it wasn't pecked by a bird or magically untied by forces of nature...it was taken off) That's when we were done leaving ANYTHING.

And someone posted about how anything could happen to anything left in a stroller, including food and beverages...so we wouldn't even leave waters in the stroller.

We've also seen squirrels in strollers, sniffing and trying to taste things...EW EW EW. I do not want squirrel spit on my stuff, LOL.

Did you lock it to something? A CM will cut it if that's the case.

Did you lock it up to a piece of Disney's property? Or just lock up the wheels? Disney will surely not allow you to chain it to a fence or other object. I bet they cut it if so.

This thread has convinced me that I need this:

::yes::

See you all in the parks soon! I'm pushing this baby down Main Street during fireworks!!!

I bring a carrier and a double stroller. My children are very young (9 months and just turned 3) and they can't walk all day and we don't want to carry them all the time along with the necessary stuff. Disney allows us to bring strollers, and as it is a place in part geared towards young kids and families, it should be no small surprise that strollers are present.
I guess the difference is that when my kids were small (and when *I* was small), when the kids were tired, we went home. We didn't drag them through the park for several more hours because *we* wanted to go on more rides.

Funny how parenting styles have changed. It used to be all about knowing your kids and knowing when to leave so you didn't annoy other people.

Apparently that's out the window now.

Agree. When my kids start dragging, it's either back to the Hotel if onsite or to the GC lobby to rest until they either want to go back or leave.

I'm going to go ahead and close the thread down before it gets out of hand.

Thanks to the people who were courteous.
