Between the BLs (Biggest Loser) Summer Challenge 2010 Part 2

Boy, you guys were busy this weekend!

Saturday QOTD--I love summer, and hate to see it end, but after all the heat we've had, I'm looking forward to some cooler temps. What three things are you looking forward to about fall?
1. Return to a “normal” schedule!
2. Cooler / less humid weather
3. My races! and
4. Return to a “normal” schedule! – Seriously, I’m looking forward to it that much!

Connie –My suggestions are waist, hips, upper arm (one), thigh (one), and bust. I honestly think that eight is going to be too much, six is borderline. Is there a “logic” behind measuring both thighs/upper arms vs. just one? I really like Maria’s name idea!

Taryn – Great job on the loss and the cleaning! I know things are stressful right now, but hang in there, I can see the light at the end of your tunnel ;)!

Pamela – The one thing I know for sure it couldn’t be is hormones :laughing:! I’m on Depo Provera, which is a quarterly birth control injection. I haven’t had a cycle in years, no TOM, no PMS, I :love: it! I really think I just have to find a better balance between calories in and calories out. I eat very few carbs on a daily basis, but on my running days I may need to add some to keep my energy level up? I’ve been thinking about it all weekend and that’s the only thing I could come up with other than the heat :confused3 ?

Sunday QOTD--What can you do today to treat your body with respect? And part 2--if you are up for it--Do you recognize in yourself any of the signs of negative or positive body image?
I’m going to try to add more veggies to dinner tonight – that’s one thing I really need to get better at, and I think I’ll feel better overall if I get more veggies/fruits.

Part 2 – I would agree with everything listed under negative body image. I see positive changes in my body, but then the scale doesn’t move and my clothes aren’t getting looser, so I get discouraged and look at the areas that still need *so* much work. I *hate* shopping for clothes to the point that I have one pair of jeans that fit and instead of buying more (and having to try them on :scared1:) I’d rather just wash these every night until they’re threadbare. I do have a few pairs of jeans in smaller sizes, but it seems to take me forever to go down in sizes even though I’m losing weight and inches? And I’ve tried to buy a new bra three times – each time it didn’t fit quite right and I had to take it back, so now I’m down to one white bra and a couple of colored ones – again, I’d rather wash clothes every night than go shopping for them! I know I’m going to have to break down and be fitted for a bra eventually, but the thought of that is just mortifying to me right now, nobody needs to be subjected to what’s under my shirt :rotfl:!

Something strange happened to me yesterday, I'm hoping you guys can give me some ideas on what was going on? Here’s the overview… I had my scheduled run Friday (C25K 5-1), then I ran again on Saturday in anticipation of my screwed up schedule this week (C25K 5-2), then we walked a mile each way from the Metro to the stadium for the Redskins game on Saturday night, then I did NMTZ yesterday, then I cleaned the upstairs (and climbed the steps about 15 times because I kept forgetting things!). Last night my knees were so swollen – like three times their normal size! It was a little scary, but they didn’t hurt. I drank an extra bottle of water and propped my legs up on some pillows and they were normal sized again this morning. I don’t know if it was all the activity or if I had more salt than usual this weekend, but it was weird! Any ideas?

One thing I really noticed on Saturday is that I used to get out of breath on the walk to the stadium and it seemed to take me forever to walk it. This time I walked at a brisk pace, didn’t get out of breath, and wasn’t even tired by the time we got to our seats (way up at the top of the stadium!). I was pretty proud of myself :goodvibes !

Taryn – Thanks for the calculators! I took a look and figured that my goal of 155 might be a little too low. I always enter 5’ 8” into the calculators like that even though I’m closer to 5’9”, I figure if I put in 5’9” it’s kind of cheating since I’m not quite there! Anyways, my range is 154 to 169.4. So, I’m going to adjust my final goal to 160. I really needed that ideal weight range - the BMI calculators are never right for me since I’ve always been more muscular than the "average female" – I’m built more like Serena or Venus Williams than Brooklyn Decker - so I figure if I get to 160 and could stand to lose a few more I’ll adjust it back, but that’s a long way off still, so we’ll see.

Pamela – I am impressed that you can prepare so much ahead of time!

Monday QOTD--Congratulations! You have just won an Adventures By Disney trip of your choice! Where would you go, who would you take and what would you do? Feel free to make up your own one of a kind trip (we're fantasizing here, right? ) or you can take one that Disney already offers!
Wow, there are so many I would love, love, love to do! I really am intrigued by the new Egypt itineraries though – that’s the only place they go where I’m absolutely sure I couldn’t do the trip on my own. It would be me and DS of course, I know my parents wouldn’t be interested and honestly I don’t think my brother would be either so it would probably just be the two of us. I would definitely have my picture taken in front of the pyramids, no matter how big I am at the time!

CC – HAPPY BIRTHDAY :dance3: ! Best of luck staying occupied until you get a new (and even better!) job :thumbsup2 !

Rose – Hope your tummy feels better soon!

Thank you for sharing that Rose! I told Brad a few months ago that I ate really well that day, had a good run. I fully expected to just wake up in the morning and be skinny! Patience is not my strong suit, usually! Taryn
I fully expect to wake up and be skinny every day, Taryn! I think I get some sort of mental affliction when I sleep and am shocked to see this strange fat girl looking back at me in the mirror every morning :lmao: ! At least I can see her getting smaller day by day, maybe that means someday I’ll be looking at myself again!

Corinna – Welcome back!

Busy week this week. Hershey Park tomorrow, getting my hair did on Wednesday (I am super excited about this – big change coming!), bowling with my coworkers Thursday evening. I’m running this evening, walking around the park will be my exercise for tomorrow, planning on Shred Wednesday and Thursday mornings, then running again Friday and getting back to my every other day schedule. I do have one concern about my running though…

I am having a lot of trouble figuring out my mileage – can someone please help me? I have the mapmyrun app on my ipod touch, but it doesn’t work – I can’t figure out if I need constant WIFI access or I need to just not run C25K at the same time? I tried to enter my route in mapmyrun.com online but I couldn’t figure it out at all (and I’m not usually technologically inept)? I almost resorted to having my brother get mapmyrun on his iphone so I could take it with me on my run Friday, but I didn’t have any pockets and didn’t want to risk dropping his phone while I was running around the lake. I was going to take my GPS from my car with me on Saturday but the batteries were too low. I’m getting a bit frustrated, in case you couldn’t tell! Can someone give me an easy way to figure this out, please? (and thank you :flower3: !)

Well, I was rather chatty today, sorry! I'll let you guys have the thread back so I can get some work done. Have a great rest of Monday and Tuesday - I’ll talk to you guys on Wednesday!

Bree

I have exactly 2 minutes until I need to leave for gymnastics.

No run this am. By the time I had enough coffee to wake up, and enough potty trips to get rid of the coffee, it was too late. Got my running clothes on now. hoping I can run w/ Dd in the stroller while Ak is in gym, it's not a jogging stroller so we'll see. I've never tried before.

in a perfect world, Sophie will fall asleep on the way, we'll nap until 7, then I'll run until I pick AK up. I've got our picnic dinner made, that's gotta fit in somehwere. Wanna bet I come back tonight and still no run?

AK is eating a quick homemade pizza for her dinner, left the stuff accessible for Dh to cook his for dinner and instructions on what I cooked last night for him to take for whatever meal one eats at 3am.

I'll check back in tonight!

Your measurement selections have been added to the list. Thanks for the comment about keeping the measurements to a minimum. No one else has said that, but I agree that it needs to be as simple as possible. I'm definitely thinking no more than 6.

I think the logic behind including both legs or both arms is just so that when you lose, you get to count it twice. Instead of losing 1 inch from your right thigh, you could say you lost 2 inches from your thighs. For myself, I think I'm planning on measuring EVERYTHING at the beginning of the Fall challenge and again at the end to see my own overall loss, but I'll only be measuring the agreed-upon stuff during the challenge.

I am having a lot of trouble figuring out my mileage – can someone please help me? I can tell you that iMapMyRun will not run in the background, so if you're not actually in the app, you're not going to get anything. (I used it on my iPhone so I'm not sure of any differences that may exist between that and the iTouch.) As far as using MapMyRun on the computer, click on "Start Mapping" (on the left side of the center section just under all the heading stuff). Wait for the advertisement to clear or click continue in the upper right corner. Click in the "Jump to" box at the top center of the map, enter the address or city where you want to start and click "go". From there you should just be able to click the cross-hairs where you want to start and keep clicking to mark your path. Click and drag to reposition the map. If you're running off-road, look in the same box next to the "jump to"/"go" and you'll see a box that says "street map". You can select "hybrid map" and you'll see the satellite map and unless it's obstructed by trees or whatever, you oughta be able to pick out your running path. I hope this is helpful and that you're able to make it work for you.

~~~ On a different note, it is currently 108 degrees here. That's not heat index. That's actual temperature. I was born and raised in Texas and, yes, it gets hot in the summer but I'm here to tell you THIS IS NUTS!
OK, so I just ate the last bad thing until next weekend! We just had the "earthquake" birthday cake since it ended up have 2 fault lines through it. I would take a photo but I'm too embarrassed with how it turned out! I also had a drink earlier today.
DD1 got on the elliptical and did 1/2 mile today. She's going to do my 2nd workout of the day tomorrow. In a bit I'm going to watch Bob's new workout and do that tomorrow afternoon. The plan (and I plan on sticking with it) is to get up at 5:30 and do the 4 Fast miles workout or 2-3 miles on the elliptical. I will then get DD1 up by 7:15 to do the 3 mile Pilates walk. Then we will go to work and I will give a massage and clean up. We will then go pick up DD2s friend for a playdate. I will do Bob's 25 minute beginners workout at some point tomorrow evening. Hoping DH will join me.
I will drink lots of water tomorrow and my protein water. I will have a smoothie for breakfast followed by a Special K bar. For lunch I will have a WW meal. I will eat only healthy snacks like maybe some pineapple. I do need to stock up on some fruits.
I have Redwalker and her DHs 40th b'day party next month and I want to look good for that. I'm aiming for 15 pounds by then.
We are going camping next Saturday to Sunday so I will just really have to focus on what I eat and drink. I won't really be able to exercise though we will go on the paddle boat and probably in the canoe for awhile. I will try to get in a workout before we leave on Saturday and do one when we get back on Sunday afternoon.
I'm going to try and make a schedule and fit in as many different workout programs as I have. I love the WATP but I need to bump up the workouts as much as possible! I want to get back to the EA Sports Active workout too. I plan on doing the BL Last Chance workout on Friday mornings before my weigh in.
How are we handling things between BL seasons since it doesn't start for almost a month? I have been skimming more than reading lately so I may have missed it! I need to get back to ME more! I plan on reading every post completely and respond to as many as possible! I also want to coach again next challenge as it always seems to help me!
Redwalker gave me the Master Your Metabolism cookbook for my birthday so I hope to do some of those recipes over the next month!
We're getting in our Disney mode since we hit double digits tomorrow:banana::cool1::yay::woohoo: as of tomorrow! We just watched an old Unwrapped DH had put on a DVD and now we're watching the old Imagineering DVD that he made! Thinking about the trip is going to help motivate me!
I don't plan on anything getting in my way or hijacking my plans! The kids go back to school 2 weeks from Wednesday and Thursday. We plan on helping DD1s teacher set up the classroom next week! Redwalker and I plan on starting our walking again on September 13th. I sometimes do better when I'm busy so I'm hoping that's the case since this fall is going to be EXTREMELY busy! My main focus is feeling good about myself and thoroughly enjoying my trip in December!
I weighed 164.4 yesterday! YIKES!:scared1: My lowest in June was 152! I hope to be 150 by the end of September and somewhere between 140 and 145 by December 1. I hope to reach 140 and then maintain between that and 145 by early November. I usually only gain a few pounds on our trip but we will be drinking more water this time as we plan on getting hydroflasks and I will buy fruit with our snack credits most of the time!
OK, I'm done rambling! I should go and get my journal and list my plans for tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of your Monday! I almost said Sunday! I'm so confused!
Love to you all!
Rose I hope the stomach settles down.
One last thing. Please continue the PD for my ds1. He has not heard from the new possible job and it should be this week. I am praying that he does get it.
Thanks. I know the good thoughts you sent last time got him the interview.
Thanks Dona (and everyone else). My stomach started feeling better around lunchtime. Seems to be back to normal. Sending good thoughts your DSs way for his job!:goodvibes
Welcome back Corinna! I've missed seeing your posts. Can't wait to hear more about your trip. I know those 5 pounds will be gone in a flash!:goodvibes
CC--glad you got a workout in this morning.:goodvibes Enjoy your birthday cake!
Maria--:hug: on the shopping trip. That's how I always feel (felt) around my sisters. The two that are closest to my age are much shorter and have always been much smaller. I hope you are feeling better about things.:goodvibes Hope the review went well and that your shoulder is back to normal soon!
Lisa--the food recalls have been stressing me out, and the first thing I thought of yesterday was bad eggs. I threw the ones out at home (even though I don't think they were effected). I'm thinking maybe it was a virus. We have both been so tired. Enjoy your last week before school starts.:goodvibes
Tracey--so glad you are getting back to focusing on you! I'd love to hear more about the wellness center.:goodvibes
Connie--you sound like such a good aunt.:goodvibes Was your daughter excited about being "promoted?"
Pamela--I've loved reading everyone's ABD trips--but yours was the best!:goodvibes Hope you had a good workout!
Lindsey--hope the Iron Pigs game was fun! I love AAA baseball. Our next homestand starts tomorrow!
Bree--have fun at Hershey Park. I went to JCPenney (not my favorite store, but it worked for this) to get fitted for a new bra and they were so nice. I was really glad I did, it made such a difference in how my clothes fit. I've actually had to go twice this year. As for the knee, not sure what it would be. Did your fingers swell as well? If it does it again, I think I'd check with a Dr. I've never had my knees swell like that. And how cool is that, that you aren't out of breath! What a NSV!!!
Taryn--hope you got your run in!
Connie--thanks for answering the mapmyrun question! As for the 108--I am so sorry!
Tracey--I love what you called the birthday cake! I believe there is just one week off between challenges. Can someone else answer this? Say hi to Redwalker!
Just a quick post to say hi! It's been a long day. I have to drive Mike back to his work to pick up his truck. When I got home from the Y he was sitting in front of our house. He had locked his keys in his truck at work. This would have been no big deal, if I had not had to go to the repair shop before the Y to pick up Mike's key for my car (which he forgot to get on Friday when they fixed my car.) Mike gets like the absent minded professor when he is stressed and busy at work, so I'm hoping this is not a sign of things to come.:thumbsup2 Wallets have been lost, checkbooks misplaced, phones lost, etc in the past when he's been like this. I adore Mike, but this drives me a tiny bit crazy!:goodvibes We ended up getting take out for dinner, because I just wasn't going to have time to do everything.
I never answered the QOTD--I want to go to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Mexico. I want to see the Mayan pyramids, go in the jungle and zipline. I would take Mike, DS, and a friend of his choice. I am really a chicken at heart, but I think ziplining looks like so much fun. Which reminds me, if Mike and I are "thin" enough now, I might look into tandem parasailing for when we are at disney in October.
Ok, I think that's it for now. Time to go get the truck! I will try to check in later.:goodvibes
Hi Everyone,
Today turned out great! I spent a total of 100 minutes exercising. I started with 50 this morning, plus 13 on the elliptical at the gym, and another 37 on the Wii this evening. Rose, you were 100% right about the elliptical. I’ll tackle it again on Wednesday. Tomorrow, I am attempting a C25K run on the treadmill.
Eating was so-so, but not a total wash. No bingeing, so no complaints!
I’m going to try and reply. My last attempt went “poof” so I’m trying this one using Word!
Have a great day tomorrow everyone! :)
CC
TVP is textured vegetable protein. Basically dry soy flakes. They get rehydrated with broth, stock, or just water.
Happy Birthday!!!:cheer2: Enjoy your day!
Instead of thinking of the "end" of something with the other job, think of it as a chance for a "fresh start" with something new! A new job, new adventure! Good luck with the job search.
I answered the TVP question above. There are studies that prove that the more times per week you head into the grocery store, the more you spend, overall on groceries, no matter what your budget. If you buy just one or two "extras" on every stop, that gets multipled by the number of trips.
I agree with the desire for an additional freezer. But they can be expensive to run... don't get one any larger than you really need... and buy FROST FREE! I didn't and I regret it often.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I may have to try disguising TVP in some meatloaf myself. Interesting study-thanks! And, thanks for the info re: freezers.
:bday: now why would you keep such great news from us....you would miss out on all the fun clippies :lmao: I hope you have a great day and also good luck with finding a new job.
I AM COMPLETELY BLOATED TODAY! its driving me nutz. I feel like I look 6mths pregnant. I am at the end of TOM so I think that is the issue. I hope it goes away soon.
Thanks! I am :rotfl: too from your comment!
Hope you feel better soon! Got to love TOM. :rotfl2:
CC – HAPPY BIRTHDAY :dance3: ! Best of luck staying occupied until you get a new (and even better!) job :thumbsup2 !
Thanks Bree! I actually kept pretty busy today and I never even opened the book I need to read by Wednesday. Oops.
Sorry, I don’t know anything about swelling knees or mapmyrun. Thanks Connie!
Ugh. Sorry folks, no good replies tonight. Too worn out. The drive makes me tired, and I have miles to go before I sleep
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CC - great job on the exercises!
QOTD - I have no idea where they go. Can I just do them all? :laughing:
Just opened an email saying money for the master's program runs out at the end of next summer. We will have 2 classes left after that. There was a follow up email saying she's checking, hold tight. HELLO? I don't need this right now!
Well, Sophie slept, I slept. I CANNOT RUN WITH A STROLLER! I can't pump my arms, and the stroller kept going side to side. Never mind that. Walked a mile, then Soph and I climbed and played on the playground. More fun anyway! It also hurt to run after sleeping 15 minutes cramped up in the car after wearing heels to work. Pretty sure I am a morning runner. Strange how the moon and stars must align for me to be up for a run!
I might try to get a run in the am. Hopefully I'll be feeling it more after a good night's sleep. I am starving right now, and trying to think of something I can eat that will fill me up without being a ton of calories. Had a couple of slices of turkey, a string cheese, and an orange for dinner. Only had some spinach, fat free yogurt, and a peach for lunch, and a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, so I know I am wayyy under calories.
Sorry for the book! I'll check in with my coffee in the morning to reply! Off to pack lunches, get the girls in the tub and bed, lay out clothes.... night time routine!
NIGHT!
TARYN
OK, so I just watched Bob's Inside Out DVD. I think I will have no problem with the beginner 20 minute workout. The 66 minute one is MURDER! Even the people in the video with him were squealing in pain and looked like they wanted to cry! It'll definitely be awhile until I do that part of the workout!
I wrote 3 pages in my journal tonight including what I'm going to eat tomorrow and my workout routine for a whole week. I forgot it was Monday already so I will start with Tuesday and see how the week goes. DD1 wants to work out with me tomorrow so I'll see how that goes. I have a WATP that would be good for her. She did do 1/2 mile on the elliptical. Gotta build up her strength and stamina for soccer that may start sometime next week!
I think we' re going to head to bed soon. I had a big glass of water tonight. We had the cake for supper.
Good night all!
Connie--you sound like such a good aunt.:goodvibes Was your daughter excited about being "promoted?"
I have moments of being a good aunt. On the other hand... watching soccer games during the Texas summer is NOT something I am inspired to do very often! DD was excited to get to be in the same class with a friend of hers who promoted a few months ago. (We even got to avoid the Monday meltdown when I dropped her off this morning!)
Connie--thanks for answering the mapmyrun question! As for the 108--I am so sorry!
I hope the mapmyrun info helps! And... we're expecting a "cold front". The forecast for Wednesday currently has the high temp at *ONLY* 97.
Here's Monday's QOTD, just in case I don't have time to get on in the morning.:goodvibes
QOTD--Congratulations! You have just won an Adventures By Disney trip of your choice! Where would you go, who would you take and what would you do? Feel free to make up your own one of a kind trip (we're fantasizing here, right?;)) or you can take one that Disney already offers!
I'd like to go to Australia and scuba dive the Great Barrier reef
Morning,
I debated sharing these with all of you, but I think it's time to let some cats out of the bag. It might, might help explain some of my wild emotions lately.
Okay, 1-Friday was my last day of work. It was a temporary position, but I had it for almost a year. I'm already bored out of my mind trying to think of something to do today.
2-Today is my birthday.
I'll be on a lot today. Will be back later with replies. Have to go eat breakfast with my mom.
Good luck with the job search. Although, being out of work for a few days seems to have a positive impact on your exercise. Boredom = 100 minutes? Love it!:thumbsup2 Are you looking for something in education? Sounds like a great opportunity to find a really cool job!
went out to dinner with some friends last night. Did eat too many chips. Had a veggie quesadea. The should have called it broccoli. There must have been a half of head in it and it was only a one tortilla folded in half. Dh got seafood sof shell tacos and he had enough food for 2 people. He said next time we go there we should split it.
Um... I love broccoli. I really do. But half a head in a quesadilla sounds disgusting! Too many lumps. :laughing: Hope you had fun at the water park! Sending PPD to your son for the job!
I've missed being here a lot this past month - I've been travelling around Europe and expected to have better internet access than I did. For some reason in London and on the Disney Magic, my DH's computer just could not get DISboards to load. I tried to balance holding the line with enjoying this long, amazing trip. The result...as of this morning, I am up 5 pounds overall for the summer. 3 or 4 of them from the last month. I feel it in my clothes and I see it in my appearance, definitely.
Welcome back! Your trip sounds absolutely amazing! Isn't it weird that when you are trying to lose, especially more than say, 20 pounds, 5 doesn't really seem to make a difference. But when you put 5 on, you can feel it? I know you'll have it off quickly, my guess is in less than 2 weeks! We've missed you this summer!
Their XL was a 10-12, and that's the size shirt I was wearing...I started to feel hopeless, because I knew that no matter what I did, I was never going to get to those really small sizes -- especially the lower half of me! I don't think she was being deliberately cruel, this is one of my nicest SILs, but I still felt ginormous, and it showed in my eating...we ate lunch on the water and we both ordered a grilled grouper sandwich. Today I'm feeling a little better with more range of motion, but it's still pretty sore. I'm really hoping that tomorrow will be much, much better.
I would have called in sick today, but I have my annual review this afternoon.
Why do we insist on comparing ourselves to others? I am forever asking DH am I her size? Sometimes it's wayy bigger, and sometimes I am just hoping for the pixie dust b/c I am sure the person is smaller. When they are family, it's harder. :hug: to you. You are so consistent, and doing such a great job, don't let it get you down. I hope the review went well, and your shoulder is 100% soon!
Some days we all just have to get through one day at a time. How much longer does DH have to work this weird shift? Anyone else getting tired of hearing about all the food recalls lately? This is going to be an interesting week at work since DS is between camp and school. DH and I will take turns taking the afternoon off to be at home with him. Hoping that cleaning thing will continue through the week!
I haven't watched the news all summer. This was the first I'd heard about it, and then someone mentioned it yesterday. Guess I need to stay on top of things better. He has 49 more days, not that we have a countdown going or anything. :laughing: OCt. 11 he'll be back on 1st. Whew. Just over a month. I can do this! Hope you are able to juggle work and being a mom well this week, and the cleaning keeps up!
I spoke with an Herbalife rep on Saturday afternoon and will be visiting the local wellness center she started in the next 2 weeks with the girls.
I actually did the herbalife shakes last year for a while. It worked okay to take off some weight fairly quickly, but I just couldn't keep up w/ just drinking my lunch and breakfast for more than a week or so. They seemed to be pretty healthy, I guess. I did like one of the supplements, total control maybe, that seemed to give me an energy boost.
I am in organizing mode and have spent the first hour of work cleaning off my desk and trying to see what all little things I can get out of the way before starting my next project that will take the next 4 months to complete. It's a project that I work every Fall that HAS to be done by January and I am just TICKLED to be getting the specs this early - I usually don't get them until October! (It's funny the things that get us geeks excited... :laughing:)
YAY for Happy Mondays! :banana: It's odd how so many of us are on organizing kicks. Glad you got your project stuff early!
TVP is textured vegetable protein. Basically dry soy flakes. They get rehydrated with broth, stock, or just water.
Do you use it for the added health benefit of soy primarily, or to make meat go farther? I had bought some several years ago, and just threw it out last weekend, unopened, b/c it had expired. I wasn't really sure what to do with it! Your ABD trip sounds phenomenal. Can I come?
I AM COMPLETELY BLOATED TODAY! its driving me nutz. I feel like I look 6mths pregnant. I am at the end of TOM so I think that is the issue. I hope it goes away soon.
Bloating stinks. The whole water weight gain thing is seriously crazy, and I seem to get hit with it like a madwoman, after a run, after about a tsp. of salt a day, what is it??? AT least you only look 6 months pregnant, and you don't have the whole pregnancy weight to lose. Trying to find a bright side for you this am! ;) Hope you had fun at the game!
Taryn – Great job on the loss and the cleaning! I know things are stressful right now, but hang in there, I can see the light at the end of your tunnel ;) Last night my knees were so swollen – like three times their normal size! It was a little scary, but they didn’t hurt. I drank an extra bottle of water and propped my legs up on some pillows and they were normal sized again this morning. Taryn – Thanks for the calculators! I took a look and figured that my goal of 155 might be a little too low. I’m built more like Serena or Venus Williams than Brooklyn Decker - so I figure if I get to 160 and could stand to lose a few more I’ll adjust it back, but that’s a long way off still, so we’ll see.I fully expect to wake up and be skinny every day, Taryn! I think I get some sort of mental affliction when I sleep and am shocked to see this strange fat girl looking back at me in the mirror every morning
I have a mental affliction when I am awake or asleep, doesn't matter! Hope your knees get better. Since it was both, I am going to guess the activity, I swell up after a long run. If it was just one, I would be more concerned about an injury, but it sounds like you worked them hard! Keep an eye on them this week. You've got a lot of exercise planned, make sure you pay attention to them! Glad the calculator helped. And shine the light at the end of my tunnel my way, so I can find my way out!
As for the running, I bought a Nike+ sensor and a little velcro strap ( non-nike brand) from Amazon to go w/ my itouch. I think for both it was like $25. It was seriously the best purchase ever. It tells me my pace, time, calories burned, and mileage, and I can run w/ my playlist. The strap hooks it to my shoelaces. I :love: it.
~~~ On a different note, it is currently 108 degrees here. That's not heat index. That's actual temperature. I was born and raised in Texas and, yes, it gets hot in the summer but I'm here to tell you THIS IS NUTS!
:scared1: STay in the AC lady!

I'm going to try and make a schedule and fit in as many different workout programs as I have. I love the WATP but I need to bump up the workouts as much as possible! I want to get back to the EA Sports Active workout too. I plan on doing the BL Last Chance workout on Friday mornings before my weigh in.Redwalker gave me the Master Your Metabolism cookbook for my birthday so I hope to do some of those recipes over the next month!
I can hear your determination! I bet the energizer bunny will be back and going soon!

Mike gets like the absent minded professor when he is stressed and busy at work, so I'm hoping this is not a sign of things to come.:thumbsup2 Wallets have been lost, checkbooks misplaced, phones lost, etc in the past when he's been like this. I adore Mike, but this drives me a tiny bit crazy
:rotfl2::rotfl: I know what you mean. I can get that way when I am stressed! Hope you are all set now!

Okay. I'm done. Have a great day everyone! :hug:
Supposed to be cooler here today, with rain again. I have a leadership meeting this afternoon, have to help DH write an essay for work, and our one family dinner at the table until Friday night! I was in the bed by 10, asleep by 10:30. Can't believe I actually got 6.5 hours of sleep last night! :dance3:

Taryn

Morning Everyone!

So glad I shared with my BL friends yesterday morning! You really helped make my day extra-special. :)

The support re: my job is much appreciated as well!

My big plan for today is to read a 300+ page book. It looks like it'll be good. I'll take it to the gym for my workout there.

Have a great day everyone!

CC

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CC - great job on the exercises!

Thanks and thanks!

OK, so I just watched Bob's Inside Out DVD. I think I will have no problem with the beginner 20 minute workout. The 66 minute one is MURDER! Even the people in the video with him were squealing in pain and looked like they wanted to cry! It'll definitely be awhile until I do that part of the workout!

I wrote 3 pages in my journal tonight including what I'm going to eat tomorrow and my workout routine for a whole week. I forgot it was Monday already so I will start with Tuesday and see how the week goes. DD1 wants to work out with me tomorrow so I'll see how that goes. I have a WATP that would be good for her. She did do 1/2 mile on the elliptical. Gotta build up her strength and stamina for soccer that may start sometime next week!

I think we' re going to head to bed soon. I had a big glass of water tonight. We had the cake for supper.

Good night all!

Your new workout sounds great! Enjoy working out with DD1! :cool1:

I'd like to go to Australia and scuba dive the Great Barrier reef

Happy-Birthday.gif

Thank you so much! I love Pooh!

The Great Barrier Reef sounds so beautiful!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CC!!
:dance3: :dance3:

Thank you! I hope you are doing well!

Good luck with the job search. Although, being out of work for a few days seems to have a positive impact on your exercise. Boredom = 100 minutes? Love it!:thumbsup2 Are you looking for something in education? Sounds like a great opportunity to find a really cool job!

Thanks Taryn! I have 3 teacher certifications so a job in education would be great. Of course, I loved my job in quality assurance, so I have options.

Today's planned exercise isn't nearly as much. I'm thinking 60 minutes plus cool-down on the treadmill.

Glad you go in some sleep! Sounds like you needed it!

Off to spend a few minutes with the Wii and see how much damage yesterday's cake did. :goodvibes

Tracey--so what's on the Inside out dvd? I need something new to do.:goodvibes

Connie--enjoy that cold front.:thumbsup2

my3princes--I loved the happy birthday wish for CC. Very cute!

Taryn--have a good day.:goodvibes

CC--so glad you had a good birthday!:goodvibes Enjoy your workouts!

Hi Nicole! Hope you are having a good summer.:goodvibes

Good morning! I had weird dreams last night. I dreamt (sp?) we moved to Louisiana. I think I might be starting to get a little anxious about our upcoming race. I always have really vivid dreams when I am a little stressed. I have work today, and then I guess we're going to run in our neighborhood--4 miles--before we go to the baseball game. Hopefully today will not involve losing/ misplacing anything.;)

Have a good day!:goodvibes

Taryn

Actually, I use it because soy protein is healthier and less fatty than beef and because it is much less expensive per pound than beef.

I only use it in ground beef recipes and I never use it alone... always mixed at least 50/50 with browned/drained/rinsed ground beef. I just rehydrate it and add it in.... for meatloaf/meatballs I add it in with all of the other ingredients to the raw meat and process as usual.

I used to use it more regularly, like I mentioned, but DS developed a soy allergy for a while, so I stopped using it. But that is one allergy that is mostly resolved, so I feel okay using it again.

I agree... my trip does sound great... and long and expensive!:laughing: Maybe some day I'll get to do even just a part of it.

Morning everyone! I'm sitting here having a mental battle with myself over today's exercise. Not sure what, if anything, I'm going to do. I wouldn't worry about it too much, except I swapped out yesterday's scheduled 5 mi run for 45 minutes of tennis with DS and 20 minutes on the treadclimber. It wasn't nearly as much of a workout, so my "day off" that I was going to take today is making me feeling guilty. I don't really want to run, because I don't want my knees hurting for tomorrow's scheduled run. The thought of doing a WATP video or something like that has me bored to tears.

As I sit here, I think I have come up with a plan..... I will do 30 minutes of circuit training (here at home) and call it a day. My Mom is coming for a visit later and maybe I could get her to take a walk with me to add in a little light cardio (very light....;)).

Well... tomorrow DS starts school and Thursday DD starts, so my summer is officially over. By Labor day we will be in the full swing of school, Robotics, and swim.... I'm not looking forward to the craziness that my life will be until at least Thanksgiving. I've already resigned myself to the idea of family sit-down meals going bye-bye for now. And cold sandwiches are going to become a mainstay on our dinner menu, unfortunately.

I haven't taken the time to figure out exactly how my workout schedule it going to go this fall.... I will certainly be driving to the YMCA often enough, but I can't stay EVERY time because sometimes DS will be with me and he will need to go home and do homework and have dinner. It will all work itself out eventually I suppose.

I think I'll go start my circuit training before anyone else is up.... I hate having an audience when I exercise!:lmao: TTYL................P

Almost forgot the QOTD--
With back to school and the end of summer upon us, it seems like a lot of folks are a little stressed out. Share 2 or 3 things you do when you are stressed to avoid overeating or share 2 or 3 healthy food/snack choices for when unexpected things come up and you aren't able to stick with your plan.

Lately when I've been stressed and need a distraction I've been doing laundry. Our laundry room is upstairs, so walking up and down the stairs a couple of times is often enough to get me over wanting to eat poor choices. At work, I will get up and get a new glass of water, and sometimes I will just go outside for a few minutes. And there's always coming on here and talking about it for a few minutes.:goodvibes

As for food--I like luna bars for treats when I really want a big bag of chips. I have to be careful to use them for special occasions and not eat them just because they are good.:goodvibes I also like string cheese, nuts and grapes for a good snack. If I feel really hungry between meals, sometimes I'll have a piece of peanut butter toast. Our go to meal when cooking just isn't going to happen is Moe's. I get the junior burrito with black beans, fajita veggies, pico and sour cream. I skip the rice and cheese. It really fills me up. :)

When I'm stressed, cleaning actually makes me feel better (could be because messes are a HUGE source of stress for me??). Even just organizing one pile of papers makes me feel much more "in control". Or making a list definitely helps me.... it keeps me busy, keeps my hands away from the food, and makes me feel better! I am a BIG list maker!

Healthy foods and snack choices.... I've really tried, over these past 2 1/2 years, to discover/find healthy choices where ever I can. I am trying to eliminate the excuse of... "there was no CHOICE". And honestly, I also try to remind myself that it is okay to be a little hungry... it won't kill me and sometimes it is the BEST choices when the only food choices around are UNWISE choices.

This time of year, if I am out and about an need a snack, I will try to find a Farm market or cart to buy fruit.... last week DD and I stopped at one on our way to swim and bought two apples, a plum, a peach, and a basket of strawberries! It was a great healthy choice, nearly as quick as a stop at the drive-thru (but admittedly more $$). I had a bottle of water and a napkin to wash the fruit and I felt really good setting that kind of example for my teenager.

There is something reasonable to found to eat almost anywhere you look.... but sometimes you need to really look HARD! An apple dippers at McDonalds is about 1 point and a fun treat and a small yogurt parfait is just 3 points and has fruit and calcium! Wendy's small chili is just 3 points and is very filling. Dunkin Donuts is hard, but a wake-up wrap without meat is just 3 points and a small light latte (skim milk and splenda) is just 1 point.

Even a quick stop at a place like Walgreens can get you a healthy snack... a skim milk and serving of unsalted nuts.... or a diet tea or diet soda (although I would hesitate to call that healthy) and a single serving light granola bar or snack bar.

Remember... it is about choices... UNWISE, BETTER, BEST. Some of these things I've listed aren't the BEST choices, but they are definitely BETTER than UNWISE! :thumbsup2

Well... I've done my 30 minutes of circuit training and it makes me feel MUCH better (both physically and mentally). My Mom called and she isn't coming up until tomorrow, so that changes my day a bit. I'm going to help DD clean up her room a bit and help DS move his Legos to his new LEGO ROOM!! Did I tell you all about that???

DS has the smallest room in the house and we really struggle to keep it functional. He works with his Legos and his Robot DAILY and he just doesn't have enough work space in his room without really creating a log-jam effect. We've debated and debated about what to do about it. Ceilings aren't high enough to build a loft for his bed, which is one idea we considered.

Anyhow, I had sort of a "DUH" moment the other day...... we have a mostly-finished office in the basement that is unused.... had even become a bit of a "dump" for things I didn't have another home for. DS and I spent part of Sunday and yesterday cleaning up... relocating and organizing the stuff, throwing away the junk, etc. Wiped up the counter area, vacuumed the floor, and VOILA!! DS has a new LEGO CREATION STATION!! He does have to share part of the space with an unused piece of exercise equipment (one of DH's great ideas...:headache:) and the Christmas decorations are stacked neatly in one corner... but the rest of the space is all his!! It is a big room too... with a raised floor, finished walls, and carpeting...so it isn't overly "basement-y". We are moving the Legos down today... he is really excited!! And I'm excited that it will mean his room will be MUCH CLEANER!!

Anyhow, I need to go make breakfast for the family! TTYL...............P

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Lisa, I can honestly say I have NOT been taking care of myself at all lately. That will change tomorrow! I have totally let myself go and focused on everyone else and let the stress of everything get to me. I actually bought a book I can use as a journal yesterday and will be writing in it daily starting tonight. I will lose this 20-25 pounds I need to get rid of no matter what. I spoke with an Herbalife rep on Saturday afternoon and will be visiting the local wellness center she started in the next 2 weeks with the girls.

:hug:, Tracey, I'm glad that you have come up with a plan to get back on track. :thumbsup2 I've been carting my journal around with me and took a page from Connie's book and started a spreadsheet. I lost 2 pounds so far this week but some of that may be my body adjusting to the great diet soda cutback and increase in water intake.

(that wavy "fantasy" music starts playing... everything goes hazy...:wizard:)

:lmao:, pjlla, between your fantasy music and Maria's ooky Halloween decorations I got a big smile yesterday! Sign me up, I thought your trip sounded fabulous.

I AM COMPLETELY BLOATED TODAY! its driving me nutz. I feel like I look 6mths pregnant. I am at the end of TOM so I think that is the issue. I hope it goes away soon.

:flower3: Hope the "whoosh" comes soon, Lindsay!

This seriously NEVER happens to me, but it's Monday and I am in an *unusually* good mood. Must have "O.D.'d" on caffeine or something. :hyper:

You must have been giddy from getting your specs extra early! ;)

Busy week this week. Hershey Park tomorrow, getting my hair did on Wednesday (I am super excited about this – big change coming!)

Can't wait to hear about your new 'do, Bree! :goodvibes

How are we handling things between BL seasons since it doesn't start for almost a month? I have been skimming more than reading lately so I may have missed it! I need to get back to ME more! I plan on reading every post completely and respond to as many as possible! I also want to coach again next challenge as it always seems to help me!!

Tracey, there is only a week between challenges. Last weigh in for this challenge is Friday, 8/27 and the first weigh in for the new challenge is the next Friday, 9/3. It's a 15 week challenge that will run until December 17th.

I'll be posting the new thread tomorrow or Thursday -- I delay as long as I can because I don't want to take away from the excitement of the end of this challenge.

PM me a couple of choices for coaching weeks. :flower3: I have nine weeks open right now.

Ugh. Sorry folks, no good replies tonight. Too worn out. The drive makes me tired, and I have miles to go before I sleep

:hug:, Taryn, I am sorry that this is such a frantic time for you. I'm glad that it won't be lasting too much longer. Do you think that if you ate a little more during the day it would help keep up your energy at night? Glad to hear that you got a little more sleep.

Nice clippie, Deb!

CC, glad that you had a great birthday!

Almost forgot the QOTD--With back to school and the end of summer upon us, it seems like a lot of folks are a little stressed out. Share 2 or 3 things you do when you are stressed to avoid overeating or share 2 or 3 healthy food/snack choices for when unexpected things come up and you aren't able to stick with your plan.

The best way to avoid stress overeating for me is to not have anything bad in the house. Another way, but probably one of those better not best choices, is to have a glass of wine. And, if all else fails, I just go upstairs to bed and start reading.

This afternoon I get to be the stay at home Mom. It will be a treat. We have new student orientation for three hours at 11 am at DS' new school. It is a charter school and I think is going to be a bit of an epiphany for DS -- things come very easily to him and this is going to be very hard and a lot of work. He is up for the challenge but there are going to be some adjustments. The nice thing is that they are going to "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk" so everyone will be in the same boat. I loved our public elementary school but it was frustrating to deal with some of the policies the teachers have to put up with -- and like in many school districts, our administration was out of touch with what it is like in the "trenches." People move from all over the country to come to this charter school so we are lucky to have it here in our hometown.

Have a great day all!

I'm going to help DD clean up her room a bit and help DS move his Legos to his new LEGO ROOM!! Did I tell you all about that???

But aren't you going to miss stepping on those Legos on the main floor? ;)

My DS would be so jealous -- he would love a room for Legos! :thumbsup2
