Better than Visa Magic Code?

I've read back through this thread and haven't found the answer to this question...
I signed up and am now Executive. Reserved a midsize for 1 week for pick up and drop off at the Disney Car Care location. On my confirmation it says Level of Service- counter  Is it because this location requires all rentals to go through the counter?

Go and sign into your emerald acccount, modify your car in the reservation to a full sized. Executive is supposed rent a full sized at midsized prices.

Once the full sized is chosen, it shouldn't change the price. Confirm, then check again. It should say :Your level of service is Executive Selection.

Hope this helps.

Well, I messed around with the reservation for a bit, and have come to the conclusion that it's because of the pick up/drop off location. If I pick up at the airport, it says Exec selection, i chose the Swan and it said counter exec or something along those lines, then the Disney car care center it says counter. I'll just stick with it as i'm getting the best deal for that location. Was just hoping to by pass the counter.

That brings up a question I have. In our National profile, we have declined all insurance. We are covered between our own policies and credit card. The code I used for reservation includes insurance. I wonder which takes precedense. The code with insurance or our profile declining insurance?

If using their insurance and later being found not eligible to have used the code means a problem with a claim, I would much rather not use their insurance to begin with. I just like the low price of the rental. ;)

I talked to National representative and asked if I could decline the insurance while using the code. she said no. She said insurance comes with the code and can not be declined

I missed the part about you picking it up at the Swan and DCC. The emerald aisle isn't available at some places.. those probably don't have it.

My best deal was for MCO.. which is good because when we leave, I find we have more time if we just drive back to the airport rather than wait for ME to take us back.

There probably won't be long lines at the Swan and DCC and you won't have a long wait.

I'm sorry, there is no "aisle" at the Dolphin where you can just pick out your car. There is only a counter where they assign your car to you and the valets bring the car around. I don't think there is an "aisle" at the Car Care Center either.

That's what I figured was the deal.

Okay, lol, so I think i'm all set now. I changed our pick up to the airport location and we'll drop off at the Swan. Now it doesn't say counter, says Executive Selection.
So the breakdown...got the Exec membership, reserved a full size, 1 week, plus an extra day for $121. I used the *67 code along with the coupon ND2119071Q.

There is no drop-off at the SWAN. You'll want to drop off at the DOLPHIN. It's a different hotel ;). One cool thing about dropping off at the Dolphin is that you are drop off "after hours" and the valet will take care of it for you :).

What do you mean? If the package is booked with the code, how would it change. I have never rented before. Why wouldn't it work?
If National notices that so many "TA"s are renting so much that they're losing money the code will get pulled and no longer be valid. I wonder how much that affects ressies already booked with that code. We're going in Sept so I'm keeping my Alamo as a back up until it gets closer. I will cancel one when I decide which I'll use. Would they tell someone at the gate who booked 4 mos prior that their discount code no longer works and must now pay rack rate?
The 57 code takes my midsize from $247 (BJ's code/coupon) to $119.
My Alamo rate is $154 so I don't know if it's worth saving $35 to deal with a possible insurance/legal nightmare.

eta: sorry, I thought I had read thru the whole dang thing until I later realized I had only gotten to pg. 22 or so. This was answered like 100 posts ago. duh... need sleep!

This makes sense to me. It is written into the contract, part of the code deal.
You don't have an option not to sign for it.

With a normal reservation that doesn't include insurance in the contract declining is simple. It's an add on if you want it. We don't. We substitute our credit card protection all the time-we never take the insurance.

ROFL...I don't know why I said Swan, one of those nights let me tell ya! Too much family drama going on

Thought I would share my experience. I read this thread yesterday, joined Emerald Aisle through mousesavers.com, and reserved a mini van using the 67 code and the e-coupon. I got 12 days for $325 in mid June.

I then got a little worried, so I called National and was directed to Customer Service that handles contract codes. I told her I booked a mini van using a contract code I found on the internet. I told her I believed the code was complimentary and usable by anyone. Also I told her I was not a travel agent or affiliated with any agency except free ones like Mousesavers. She put me on hold. Then came back and said I could use the code. I asked her if she could email me the confirmation to make sure I was all set. She checked my reservation and sent me this with my rental agreement.

"Your level of service is Emerald Reserve. Please proceed directly to the rental lot and the car class reserved to choose your vehicle. "

She also told me that contract IDs are blanket codes and ID are rarely asked for. Also at this particular time this code does not have an expiration date and I could use it again. So it looks like I am set and I thought I would pass on my experience.

Just got this email today from American Express:

NOT SURE IF YOU'RE COVERED?

PREMIUM CAR RENTAL PROTECTION CAN HELP

Who has time to make sense of the many different car rental insurance options? Who wants to pay the daily insurances rates charged?

Premium Car Rental Protection provides primary coverage for theft and damage to the rental car up to 42 consecutive days (up to 30 consecutive days for Cardmembers who reside in Washington), as well as excess Medical Expense, Personal Property and Theft coverage, and much more. All for a premium of up to $24.95 per rental, not per day!

When I click on "learn more" it says this:

Definition of the Premium Car Rental Protection Plan
Premium Car Rental Protection (PCRP) is insurance coverage offered to American Express® Cardmembers to help protect them and Passengers when the Cardmember uses an enrolled Card to pay for a Rental Auto from a Rental Company. Coverage includes 1) reimbursement for damage to or theft of the Rental Auto and personal property, and 2) medical expense and death and dismemberment benefits resulting from a covered Accident. Coverage is worldwide except vehicles rented in Australia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, and New Zealand. Enrollment is available to Consumer and Small Business Cardmembers residing in the 50 United States of America or the District of Columbia. Corporate Cardmembers are not eligible.

What the Plan Covers
The $100,000 coverage level with a premium of $24.95 covers:

• Up to $7,500 per person of excess coverage for Medical Expenses.
• Up to $2,500 per person of excess coverage for Personal Property, maximum of $5,000 for all.

Premium
There is no cost to enroll in Premium Car Rental Protection, and there are no monthly, annual, or cancellation fees. The Cardmember pays a flat fee of $19.95 or $24.95 per rental ($15.95 or $17.95 for California Residents) each time a rental car is charged to his or her enrolled American Express Card, until coverage is terminated. The flat rate covers the duration of the rental, for up to 42 consecutive days (up to 30 consecutive days for Washington Cardmembers).

Vehicles covered by the Plan
The Plan covers most vehicles typically available from a Rental Company, from smaller economy sizes to large luxury sedans, convertibles, exotic cars (worth more than $50,000), minivans, vans, pickup trucks, and full-sized SUVs. The vehicle must be rented from a Rental Company, which is a commercial rental agency that rents passenger type motor vehicles, but it does not include a company whose primary business is something other than renting cars, such as an auto body shop or a moving van company.
Excluded vehicles include: automobiles that have been customized or modified from the manufacturer's factory specifications, except for driver's assistance equipment for the physically challenged; any rented vehicle used for hire or commercial purposes; antique cars (cars over 20 years old or cars that have not been manufactured for over 10 years); limousines; off-road vehicles, motorcycles, motorbikes, mopeds, recreational vehicles, golf or motorized carts, campers, moving trucks or moving vans, and trailers.

Benefits of Premium Car Rental Protection
Some of the most popular products with Cardmembers are the travel insurance services, such as Automatic Flight Insurance* and Premium Baggage Protection.† Our research shows that Cardmembers are interested in purchasing similar products that help protect them at key times in their travels, such as when they rent cars. Also, Premium Car Rental Protection is appealing to Cardmembers who do not have Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance (CRLDI),§ which is a benefit included with many American Express Cards. And for those Cardmembers who do have CRLDI for no additional charge on their Card but are looking for more extensive protection, this plan will also offer more comprehensive coverage.

The difference between the Premium Car Rental Protection (PCRP) and Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance (CRLDI)
PCRP differs from the CRLDI plan included with most Cards in four key ways:
• This Plan offers excess coverage for medical expenses, damage or theft of personal property, and Accidental death & dismemberment benefits. With the exception of the coverage on some premium American Express Cards, CRLDI only covers damage to or theft of the rental car.
• PCRP provides primary coverage for damage or theft of the rental car. CRLDI offers coverage in excess of other sources of insurance.
• PCRP covers many types of vehicles that CRLDI does not, including full-sized SUVs, expensive and exotic cars, and others.
• CRLDI only covers vehicles rented in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. PCRP offers worldwide coverage, except for vehicles rented in Australia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, and New Zealand.

Determining coverage of personal car insurance or business insurance
It’s possible that a Cardmember’s personal car insurance or business insurance might cover these types of losses. However, here are a few things to keep in mind:
• PCRP is primary insurance of theft and damage to the rented vehicle, which means enrollees won’t have to dip into their own insurance first, or pay a deductible.

Also, insurance policies often vary in their coverage of rental cars, or out-of-state or international driving. Cardmembers should check personal policies carefully to see whether they’re covered for rental cars. But this Plan covers enrollees almost anywhere in the world.

Coverage is automatically extended to other American Express Cards
If you are the Basic Cardmember, your other American Express Card accounts, and any Additional Cards issued on those accounts, are automatically enrolled in the Premium Car Rental Protection Plan. Any Card accounts issued to you in the future, and Additional Cards on those accounts, will also be enrolled. Cards that are not enrolled include Corporate Cards, Additional Cards enrolled independently, Additional Cards issued to you on someone else's account, and any Card issued by a third-party bank partner of American Express.
If you are the Additional Cardmember, coverage does not extend to other accounts you may have. You are only covered on the account on which you have been issued the Additional Card.

Provider of Premium Car Rental Protection
Premium Car Rental Protection is underwritten by AMEX Assurance Company Administrative Office, DePere, WI. Coverage is determined by the terms, conditions, and exclusions of Policy AX0610 and is subject to change with notice. This document does not supplement or replace the Policy.
When identifying insurance products that may be of interest to you, American Express may act on behalf of the insurance company and receive compensation that may vary by company and product. American Express may also receive additional financial benefit when AMEX Assurance Company or another American Express entity acts as the insurer or reinsurer for these products.

No where does it say you must first decline any coverage. I'm at work right now and can't call but will have to check it out more closely. May be worth it if you're getting a great rate but want peace of mind on the insurance end. :flower3:

Regarding the additional "protection" for a fee...
If you go to American Express and look at the their basic
Car rental loss and damage insurance plan, (which is free with your card)
These are the cardmember instructions:
#
Use your Card - When you are the primary renter,
simply use your eligible Card to reserve and pay
for your auto rental.

# Say "No Thanks" - Decline the collision damage
waiver (CDW) or similar option when you are reserving and picking up your car from the Commercial Car Rental Company.

# Enjoy the Ride - The Car Rental Loss and Damage
Insurance Plan provides coverage against theft of or
damage to most rental vehicles. Coverage applies for the first 30 days, and is in excess to your other sources of insurance.
( As coverage differs by Card, please see the Description of Coverage either in your Cardmember Agreement, or in the updates communicated to you, for benefit details.)

I note a box on the right that allows you to sign up for the for fee protection mentioned above. It would seem that if you pay the fee for additional coverage, the same basic rules would apply, (decline the insurance) but I could be wrong.

I'm so glad I left the insurance field 2 years ago. It still makes my head spin.

OK, let me make sure I have this right, before I cancel out the old reservation. I had an 8 day mid size reserved with the $35 off and the 57 code....for $121.25.

I just did the upgrade to Executive level, all switched over without me having to get a new number, etc. Did the same reservatino again, same price, except it is a full size now, executive level.

So, there is a Emerald Aisle and an Executive Aisle there. I will now go to the Executive Aisle and pick whatever I want, getting at least a full size???

Did anyone see that statement?

Edited so it was clearer...

Which statement? :confused3
I'm wondering what meaning the red highlighted text is supposed to have. I did find the basic AMEX information, and they say in black and white to decline insurance if you want their coverage.
I would be amazed if they had the opposite policy in their extra charge of $15.95- $24.95 per rental "supplement".
