Better than Visa Magic Code?

In post #151, retiredhoghead used the *6* code with success. on flyertalk.com they used the *5* code with success.:cool1:

I have an emerald aisle reservation using the *67* code and the ND2119071Q coupon for November. I tried using different coupons and they all said coupon would expire prior to use. I saw that the coupon I used was extended through Sept. 08 but, must have extended beyond that or wouldn't have accepted.
My rate for the 7 day rental is 92 something.

Ok Here is my question... I have a Van reserved under the Emerald reserve using the 6 code.

I go directly to my van... and head out...

Now will they stop me then and there and say, we are sorry your code is not good and if you want this van your rate is such and such...

OR

upon my returning the car, at the end of my vacation, can they say... opps sorry, that rate is not valid and now you have to pay such in such...

Good question! That is what I am wondering as well.

All your rate info is put in at the time of p/u. My reservation shows what my charges would be for extra day and hours. So if I'm 3 hrs. late returning my car they will charge me the contract rate + 9.97 hr. or 29.00 day.
In other words if they say anything it will be at p/u.

Great news retiredhoghead. Now everyone just needs to stop calling and emailing. As stated on the other boards, "never question a good deal by calling.":rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If you read thru the threads, you'll see there is a mixed bag of answers from National. Your either gonna go for it or not. People are starting to report success, so don't ruin it by calling.;)

Well, if they don't charge your card until the car is returned, and you bring it back damaged, if the code you used isn't public I'm sure they can tell you that since you used an "illegal" code they won't honor the liability waivers.
It might not happen, but I don't know if I'm willing to take the chance when my credit card will cover me as long as I don't take National's plan.

No offense for the answer - I appreciate it but does anyone have a contract from National who is out there renting that says anything regarding the liability and whatnot? I'd think they can't just cancel things once there is a rental agreement - if the agreement is executed (which is is when they let your off the lot with the car) then it is binding as far as I can tell.

Again, no one should take any chances they are not comfortable with but unless there is a statement in the rental agreement saying that insurance has a clause regarding the rate or anything of the kind, I can't imagine they can change it after the fact.

Under contract law, a contract is not binding if there is any misrepresentations and can be recinded, whether or not already executed. There is usually also language to that effect in most contracts. (I deal with insurance, contruction and lease contracts on a daily basis.) As far as how that relates to your question, it depends on whether the law is on their side if they argue misrepresentation for using this code - public code vs private code? Depending on the state, the misrepresetation must also be material to the dispute. I am happyd people are succesful in using this code but I would have a back up plan because they could at anytime require the Travel Solutions employee ID that we all know is a requirement to use this code. If they see all these cars going off of their lot at these low rental rates, resulting in large loss of profits, my bet is that they will start asking for ID. Just be cautious and Good Luck!

Yeah. What disneyhappy said. :rotfl:

I don't have an issue about using the code...I've got a ressie booked with it right now. My concern is, even if they don't question the code when you drive off with the car, if you bring it back damaged (from someone bumping the fender in the parking lot to a full on accident) you can bet they're going to take a closer look at where the code came from before they just send you on your way and pay for all the repairs themselves. If you are in fact using a private code that you do not have permission to use, I'm pretty sure they'll be coming after you to collect their money, and they'd have every legal reason to do so because you're weren't eligible to use the code in the first place.

So, since my CC covers rental car damages but only if I waive National's fees, I think it would be wiser to do it that way. If I stick with the TS code, get into an accident, have my ressie scrutinized by National, lose my free coverage, and then get turned away by my CC company for accepting National's coverage, I'm left holding the bag.

I'm sure how car insurance works in these situations. I'm sure they'd cover the damages but then it might raise your premiums in the end.

Normally I don't worry too much about accidents, but in a crowded place like WDW with so many people driving cars they aren't used to, I'd say the probability of something happening to the car is a lot higher than average.

Ok, first let me start with this is my first post, been lurking for years, but this insurance issue has been driving me crazy and finally got me to register and join you all. Can they hold you responsible if you called and asked the agent THREE times if it was okay for you to use this code or if they would be asking you for any additional id, and you were assured that it was ok. It seems that there has been enough confusion that it is possible that the code is open for use. By them agreeing to reserve the car for you, they can not then just blame you for misrepresentation in the end if some type of damage were to occur.

Have a full size on hold with the *6* code, but I am starting to check this forum every hour for updates. Have a back-up res also, leaving in two weeks. Don't really want to spend $65.00 if I do not have to, but sometimes think it may just be worth it to spend it and have no worries.

Thanks again for all of the wonderful information I have got from this board over the years. You folks are truly amazing.

Your post made me laugh :rotfl: cuz I have been mostly a lurker for the year or so since I found this board. Posted only occasionally. But this whole code thing has me posting everyday and checking the board quite often!! I feel exactly as you do, agree w/ everything you said, even up to the "is it really worth it at this point" part. But I hate to spend the extra $150 when people are getting "it's OK to use it" answers too!!:goodvibes :flower3: :goodvibes

Thank you for the info and I am happy to have a knowledgable contracts person in this mess of a thread we've created!

I think the code I used was the 6 code which I think is the supposed complementary code but am not sure. Wouldn't they have to specify somewhere or tell me when I rent the car that there is a restriction on this price in order to say there is a misrepresentation? I travel a lot and as I've said if I use a AAA rate at Marriott it is clearly printed on my ressie that I must present my card to receive the discount. Whether or not they have asked for it varies but I always have the card with me. At National when I use a coupon requiring printing a coupon it clearly states on the reservation that the coupon must be presented at the time of rental. So if there is a hard restriction on a particular code, such as an ID requirement, isn't it National's responsibility to advise the customer of this restriction, particularly with badly outsourced reservations people as the only human line of information? Given the availability of these codes on the internet isn't it also reasonable that National should assume that any code can be available to the general public even if it is supposed to be restricted?

I am just very interested in whether or not National could legitimately change a rate or invalidate insurance when there is not really anything anywhere proving that one or more codes are restricted. The information given out has been spotty at best and even the email the person posted said 'clearly states ID required' or something to that effect but nothing in the email indicated where it was 'clearly stated'. Agents on the phone give different info to different people so I don't honestly know what the codes are for.

I am not personally changing anything about my reservation and I fully expect to drive off in Nov with my executive aisle car with the rate I reserved even if it means having a manager come to argue with me while I sit in the exit gate but I really think based on years of business with National (and a history of renting with them) that no one will care when I leave the airport what the code was 7 months earlier when I booked it.

Also, for anyone booking a backup reservation - be very careful what the cancellation policies are on those as well as the National ressie - either one may have a policy you agreed to with a service charge. That charge may be enough to not have two ressies in the first place - just be aware.

I reserved a mid-size emerald aisle Apr 10 (9:30PM) through April 14 (3PM) and thought I was entering the Visa magic code 8572987. When I looked at my reservation closer I realized I had entered 8572957. My wrong code still did the same thing the Visa Magic code is doing, free insurance and all fees included, BUT the wrong code is giving me a rate of $110.62 and the Visa Magic Code is giving me a rate of $161.61! Anyone have any idea what the code 8572957 is???

This was my orginal post when I started this thread a couple weeks ago, I am pleased to announce that the "57" code has been used with my EA reservation and they didn't even blink an eye at it.

I'm sure this has been talked about but I just can't seem to find it...What is coupon code ND2119071Q? I've been on National's site and none of the existing coupons have that number. I also tried it with my existing ressie and it knocked it down another $30. Would love to use it of I could find it and print it.

Well at least you got to use it. I predict since we're all calling and emailing about this code, National will get suspicious and pull it soon.

People......rather than worrying about a rental company pulling a code, and leaving you with a huge bill at the end of your trip, use only codes you are eligable for. Is it worth x amount of dollars to stress and obsess over whether or not the code will be valid? I don't think so.
Please, use only the codes you know you can use. I would hate for anyone to come back here and say..."Well, thanks to your advice here on the DIS I ended up spending an extra $100 'cause that code didn't work for me!!"
If you can't prove a code is valid for your use, don't put it out there. It's not rocket science.

The 30 dollar coupon link is on the main National page just click on it and the coupon will come up to be printed.
