Better than Visa Magic Code?

to retiredhoghead--do you recall what code you used *5* or *6* ?
To hetsell--do you have the other board with the success story on it?

I will also be one to fight over the code.

I had a problem in August with Alamo. Booked a full size SUV, I printed the page that showed Yukon XL and the # of people it would hold. I think it said online that it held 7 adults, and a ton of luggage. I have 6 adults, and a wheelchair. (They have since reduced the capacity listed on the website, but I had it prinited out) I got a great rate, using Costco (I am a member). I am a Quick***** member. Well, we got into a fight that lasted over an hour. It was over 90 degrees, and my poor son in the wheelchair was melting. Some of the employees were horrified at what was happening, but a couple of others could not care less (management). They tried to give us a much smaller vehicle, said they could because the small print says "or similar". I said the similar vehicle needs to hold the same number of people and amount of luggage. We went around and around. They offered a regular minivan. Finally they gave us the big monivan, I think it was a Toyota. It would seat 8, and had a huge deep well storage area in the back. It was huge. So, we took it.

So, I have done the fight, it did not ruin the trip, and the vehicle was great. We could not pick the vehicle and drive to the window, because they do not keep standard SUVS in the rows.

Good luck all!

What a nightmare! I would have fought tooth and nail as well.

I think the difference here is that it is unclear if these Travel Solutions codes are meant for the general public. If they aren't, it's kind of hard to fight if you aren't a TS employee. Just because someone stumbled across these codes doesn't mean anyone can automatically use them. In fact, wasn't it just someone's typo when they were entering the Visa code that led to all of this? I don't think the *5 or *6 were even on the internet at all until we started talking about them. So really, all it takes to squash your argument at the counter is for the agent to ask how you obtained this private code.

With that said, I'm keeping my ressie I used with the *6 and hoping it really is a "complimentary code" like a few of the agents have told posters. But if they question me about it I don't really feel like I truthfully have a right to use it if it is in fact a private employee code.

This is the link to the person you used it successfully this morning. Post # 586 I think. The code used was the 57 one.

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178101&page=40

I used carrentalsavers.com to make a reservation for me. basically gave them the info, dates, location etc and they find the best price. When I got confirmation of the reservation, it had used the 57 code. I emailed them to ensure that this was a public code, and this is the response I got back:

'This is a public ID and you are not required to show anything. We have confirmed with National.

Thank you for using www.CarRentalSavers.com and please enjoy your trip. '

Reading through the last few pages of that thread brought up an interesting concern I hadn't thought of. These codes are giving us all the bells and whistles in terms of liability insurance. But if these are not in fact public codes and we have an accident, all of that insurance will be null and void.
Now I'm second guessing my reservation, since my Amex card pays for rental car damages, but only if I waive the rental company's liability fees.

Note that carrentalsavers.com has the following terms and conditions, however:

Usage Policy
These codes provided on this site are publicly available and should work. We provide no guarantees that they will work as the car rental companies may change them at any time. You agree to use these codes at your own risk. In using this website you agree to idemnify CarRentalSavers.com from any claims arising from use of these codes.

Thus, while it looked like this would be a good way to go, it does not appear to be any safer than booking it yourself.

Ok well I had to jump on this bandwagon and booked using the -67- code. Got just about half off my minivan for August.

It's booked under Emerald Reserve.. does that mean I just go to the minivan row and pick something?

THanks

Windjammer: After using the link supplied earlier for the emerald exective membership, I decided to re-book my national reservation on my own and cancel the carrentalsavers one. I just emailed them to see what their understanding of the code was.

Please select your coverage options for your rentals. You must select coverage options for your enrollment to be complete. For explanation of coverage, please click on the coverage of choice.

When renting in the U.S., I choose to accept/decline:

Coverage Accept Decline
LDW1
PAI/PEC
SLI
RSP

I am covered through AAA no matter what car I drive so which should I choose?

thanks

Disneyfanatic108, I used the 67 code last weekend at MCO. Iam going to MCI tonight and using the 67 code which waves the extra taxes. It will save as much as $100 to $115 on a weekly rental at MCI. They have the highest fees of any city in the country. I do not really care about the INS this code provides because my INS company covers it anyway. Good Luck!!!

I just got a rate of $118 inclusive EA using the 67 code down from my $189 EA using 87 for 5/11 thru 5/16, but, I think I'm going to wait a few days before I change it and see if it gets questioned over the next few weeks.

Other than a few posters on the other board, where does it say that if a 'wrong' code is used for the rate the insurances are null and void? That could very well be in the contract but if they give you the car, and the insurance is on the rental agreement - how could they possibly nullify that insurance when it was paid for even if it was part of the rate?

Well, if they don't charge your card until the car is returned, and you bring it back damaged, if the code you used isn't public I'm sure they can tell you that since you used an "illegal" code they won't honor the liability waivers.
It might not happen, but I don't know if I'm willing to take the chance when my credit card will cover me as long as I don't take National's plan.

:confused3 Can someone help me with Executive status. What does this mean? Can I still book a mid-size and then pick off the Executive row? Or, do I now have to book a full size in order to select off the E.R.?

Also, if I reserve, say, a minivan, and see something better on the Executive row--can I take that E.R. car instead?

Confused. Thanks for any info you can share.

From the National web site

"Emerald Club Executive and Emerald Club Executive Elite Members will be charged the rate for the next lower car class when renting a full-size through luxury vehicle (excluding specialty vehicles) from National Car Rental."

So as long as you pick a full size, you will get charged for the mid size rate and will be able to pick anything from the Executive Aisle. I suppose if you wanted to book just a mid size, then you could always pick something off the ER aisle.

Anyone tried the *67 code the past few days? Any ID required or questions asked?

I made a December, 10 day, emerald aisle reservation using the *67* code and the ND2119071Q cpupon code. $220

I have the same exact reservation under my name (other is under husbands) except used the visa magic *87* code. $310

I had no trouble with the coupon on either reservation, even though I thought it was supposed to expire in June.

I'll just keep watching the boards to see if some definitive answer comes out about the *67* code.
