Better than Visa Magic Code?

Ok, I am just really curious who's going to put this to the test first? I am dying to see if everything goes aok.

My reservation is for May 1. Hoping someone reports success with this before then.

Now that we have Exec. Status (thanks BTW to the person who posted), which I believe is above board,(if you follow the link you can see) I have a question as to what type of car I should book in order to get a minivan or similar to hold 2 adults and 3 kids /luggage? What type cars do they have on the Exec. Aisle? Do I even need to rebook now, or just keep my original ressie and show the new ID card at the gate?:confused3

THanks for the update!

Any idea where "it states for Employees Only"? My ressie has nothing about it - if I have a coupon requiring printing, it says that on my ressie but this code did not produce anything.

Honestly - I'm using it regardless as I have an executive emerald ressie so I won't go to the counter and I will pitch a fit beyond belief if they try to charge me something other than the ressie says if there are no printed restrictions. But that's me - I'm willing to risk having to pitch a fit and my savings are hundreds so it's really worth it to me to try it out. I am also going to be at tampa so who knows how fussy they are there.

You can "pitch a fit" from now until next year but if National insists on employee ID, you will be out of luck.

I disagree - I think that they have to notify you if a code requires ID and if they don't then you have a valid argument - you have the right to ask for a manager and I will have a copy of my ressie. Now, they may argue and charge a different rate but then there is a case with the credit card company for an overcharge. There is nothing on my reservation about that code requiring ID, however, there is a note that my coupon must be presented at time of rental.

WHen I go to Marriott and use AAA rate, it is clearly printed on my reservation that I must present my AAA card to receive this rate. So if I don't have my card, then I'm out of luck there but with National I don't think they can really force requiring ID without notifying you of that in advance.

Plus, why would I carry my work ID on vacation? I don't, personally anyway.

AllyBri- My money is on you! "Pitching a fit" could get it resolved several weeks down the pike but not at the airport. I had an issue that was truly Alamo's error that I tried to get resolved at the airport with no luck. I had to call Alamo corporate when I got home to have it resolved. (In that case, I had no problemsince their error was clearly a system glitch.) A friend who works in management for Enterprise told me the gate agents are trained to play hardball. For me, it is not worth spending precious vacation time and potentially ruining a vacation I am paying 1000s of $ to save a little money. Plus I wouldnot want to subject my children to a scene. Not to mention the fact that I know I am not entitled to the use of the code! I could not argue it's validity just because they failed to mention it on the reservation. If you want it fight it legally, be prepared to submit it to small claims court (according to my friend). Also, I think people have a misperception if the counter is bypassed, a renter will not be asked to show any proof. We are Emerald Club (Executive) and have been asked for coupons in the past at the exit gate. As I thought about this, I recall one time several years ago that I was asked for my Entertainment card. I agree that it is hit or miss at the exit gate but if National sees a big flux of renters using a code, you can bet that they are going to start asking. All they have to due is implement a system change to prompt the agent to ask that question. I honestly am not trying to be insensitive. I'm sure some people will be able to use this successfully, initially, but with so much planning and money going into a vacation, is it worth the risk?

You aren't being insensitive at all!

For me, getting a good rate means the difference between flying and driving 15 hours so I am prepared to fight however I need to in order to get the rate on my reservation. This was not a small savings for me - it was over $200 due to the length of my trip. The agent at the gate could definitely ask for ID but if there is nothing on the reservation saying I need it, I don't think they can legally enforce it. I am sure they are trained to play hardball but I don't argue at that level - when I don't get a valid answer then I go to a manager. The good part is if I am sitting at the exit gate arguing, then I have a much better shot than if I am at the counter - at the exit gate I am holding them up if they don't speak to me where at the counter they will leave me there for hours and not care.

I actually have my emerald club membership through my former employer and have earned rental credits, etc. so I have a good history of renting with National and that does tend to garner some level of respect from site managers. Also, when someone is leary about using a code and then they are challenged - they will generally back down. It doesn't mean they are wrong, but that is what these companies count on. Same as if you valet park your car and something is taken or it is damaged - the ticket says they are not responsible but they are most certainly responsible legally once they take your keys. They prey on the masses who won't argue.

I also feel very strongly that with the availability of these codes on the internet for all travel oriented companies, they need to put the restrictions on the reservation (as Marriott does with certain codes) to be able to really enforce them.

For those waiting for someone to use it successfully - given the back and forth on the phone with National about it's ok or not ok and the email that says 'it states you must have ID' where I don't know where it states this (no offense to the person who took the initiative to email), one person may have no trouble and another may be challenged.

I really don't expect to have a problem but if I do I am prepared to argue it and I have the printouts of the reservation as proof for my credit card if they try to overcharge me.

Everyone should do what they feel most comfortable with though.

Well, it looks like I may be the first to try it (67 code) this Saturday at Tampa airport. I was told by the rep it was a comp code and no ID is needed, so I don't feel bad about using it and am not trying ot get away with anything. However, I already informed the people I am travelling with and am keeping the back-up res with Alamo. We are back on the 27th, so I will let you know how it goes.

Quit a discussion over this 57 thru 87 code at national. I've used it this past weekend at MCO, EA. Handed them my drivers license, credit card, paper work and was not asked to present a coupon nor any verification. I also used the 5063773 PA code quite often to get good rates and has never been asked for ID. at MCO or any other lacation.

Another success story on the other board! Some just reported picking up their car this morning using the code and had no problems.

This code will save me over $100.00

What code are you all talking about?? 8572957, 8572967, or 8572987???

Rght now I am using 5063773 for the end of May - EA intermediate - and the $30 coupon for a total of $136.18...
On the Alamo side I saw $123.38 using TZPROMO and the $35 coupon for $123.38.
I'm going to keep a close watch on both.
May 24th to May 29th.

I will also be one to fight over the code.

I had a problem in August with Alamo. Booked a full size SUV, I printed the page that showed Yukon XL and the # of people it would hold. I think it said online that it held 7 adults, and a ton of luggage. I have 6 adults, and a wheelchair. (They have since reduced the capacity listed on the website, but I had it prinited out) I got a great rate, using Costco (I am a member). I am a Quick***** member. Well, we got into a fight that lasted over an hour. It was over 90 degrees, and my poor son in the wheelchair was melting. Some of the employees were horrified at what was happening, but a couple of others could not care less (management). They tried to give us a much smaller vehicle, said they could because the small print says "or similar". I said the similar vehicle needs to hold the same number of people and amount of luggage. We went around and around. They offered a regular minivan. Finally they gave us the big monivan, I think it was a Toyota. It would seat 8, and had a huge deep well storage area in the back. It was huge. So, we took it.

So, I have done the fight, it did not ruin the trip, and the vehicle was great. We could not pick the vehicle and drive to the window, because they do not keep standard SUVS in the rows.

Good luck all!

You are the best:banana:

9 years of traveling and now I get the executive cars when I really need it!

I'm flying in/out of Tampa so hopefully there will be a good selection - anyone know what cars are generally in that catgeory?

BTW - I 'enrolled' and put in my name and DL # and it found me and upgraded me. Then I had to change my ressie to full size and it made it an executive selection.

Thank you to the OP for the Executive Member link! Question: how do I tell that they upgraded my vehicle?? I am new at this and tried entering a full sized vehicle and it still said full sized vehicle on my confirmation. Is there a minimum sized vehicle you need to reserve to receive the upgrade? Thanks so much!

I would havve definitely fought that issue as well!

Whoever has this ressie - are you executive emerald club on your own or was this done through one of the codes? The cars on the executive aisle are so much better.

A few questions about a res with the Emerald Club..

If you do not show, do they charge the credit card on file?
If you book a res with the *67 code that is going around and they will not honor it and you don't want the car, will they charge your credit card anyway?
