Subway is horrible. I also think it depends where you live. I have eaten in Subway in both Huntington Beach and Carlsbad.....yuck. They need to send them back to Subway University because their subs were so lacking.
I'm not a fan of Subway either & we don't have many of the restaurants posted on this thread. Quiznos is here I think, although I haven't tried their subs. Personally, I like Cousins.
That said, Arby's had a hot sub that I really liked. Chicken Marinara i think it was called & they don't have it anymore. Bummer! Fazoli's also has good subs.
Yes, the $5 footlong promotion has been gone for quite awhile now.
No Jersey Mike's or Firehouse or Publix here.
Maybe I'll have to google to see what's available around here. But I don't want to drive an hour to find a good, reasonably priced sub sandwich either.
Because of the $5 footlongs, Subway is the cheapest sub shop around here by a long shot. There are lots of other sub places I love but they are all too pricey.
I am an oddball and don't like quiznos. I don't like toasted subs so they just don't do it for me. I really like Jersey Mike's and Firehouse is ok. My favorite in town is SubStation II, and I have always loved Blimpie. Lots of Grocery store deli's make great subs too. Publix in FL made great subs and now that I'm back in NC, Harris Teeter grocer nakes great subs as well.
I don't have any other sub places around me other than Subway or Quiznos. I prefer subway because I like their breads and all their veggies, and ours still has $5 footlongs.

I don't like Quizno's either, and for the same reason- their toasted subs just aren't the best. Have you tried Penn Station? The only one I know of in Charlotte is outside 485 on Providence Rd. We go out of our way to get the Philly Cheesesteak and Italian subs there (even though they are hot subs)- they are delish!!
I think that some of Subway's subs are still low cost but others not so much. I don't care for Quizno's but I'd like to try Firehouse. That is when I actually eat bread.

OK you rock because my hubby LOVES Penn station and the one we used to go to on Park Road extension near the hospital in the Pineville area near the mall, near DD Peckers, closed down and we thought there were none left in the area. The one you mentioned is even closer to where we live!
Our Subway has gone to $4 for footlongs.
I like Penn Station, but they are pricey. Firehouse is good too. Jimmy John's isn't bad, but I don't care for Jersey Mike's.
If you are near Detroit, I imagine there are many ethnic delis that would have at least better subs than Subway. My dad used to bring home the BEST ones from an Italian Deli on his way home from working at Fords. I would love one of those right now..
Our Subway shops here have never stopped having the $5 subs, although the selection is down to about 6.
I used to love Tubby's sub shops. Are they still around?
