Better "Preferred View" Locations at BWV?

We just had our waitlist come through for a last minute trip next month, so we'll be staying for the 1st time in a BWV 1 bedroom preferred view.

I don't care how long the walk is to the room, but I would really love a decent view, preferably a water or garden view that doesn't look at the clown pool. (Sorry, but I really don't like the giant clown...)

Does anyone have any suggestions of particularly decent to good areas or rooms to request, and/or how best to request such a thing?

Considering asking to overlook the croquet lawn. On the map below, it's the area on the opposite side of the Big River Grill. Those rooms overlook the canal and the Swan/Dolphin resorts. I think it is a pretty view, even at night. The croquet lawn is nicely landscaped and there are seldom any people on it. It's a relatively quiet area, especially if your room is farther from the elevators. As with all areas of the BWV, there are stairways scattered through out that make for convenient exits if you are able to do stairs. I don't believe very many people request this area, so your chances of getting it are quite good.

If you booked a studio, ask to overlook the Village Green. These rooms overlook the area bounded by the resort lobby, the lake and the BWI and BWV wings. Most of them have a partial view of the Boardwalk, but are considered Pool/Garden rooms. They are all relatively close to the elevators. AFAIK, there are only studios in this area. It's a popular request.

Carol, are most of the studios in the village green area dedicated? I requested dedicated, but I would love to be in this area.

Yes, I believe they are, but am not 100% positive AFAIK, there are no 1 or 2 bedrooms in that particular area, so the studios would be dedicated.

If that's not so, someone will post with the correct information, LOL.

We had this view in Sept in a studio. It was amazing. We had a great view of Epcot, and half of the BW and BC. I liked it better than a boardwalk view because it didn't seem as loud as a BW view would be. We were also very close to the elevators which was nice as well. Ours was a dedicated studio.

Carol,

I just returned from a trip and had asked the same question for a 2BR - I took your suggestion and got the croquet lawn view. Just want to thank you for your advice - it was a nice view (and made the disappointment of not having aBW view for the first time a little more bearable!)

Ok, this seems like such a silly question (especially as I type it!) Is the croquet lawn actually available to play croquet? If so, where do you get the equipment?

We were at BWV in February, but never noticed this area. It sounds like a lovely view and it would be fun to actually play!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the view. Thanks for letting me know. :) Maybe you'll get the Boardwalk view for your next trip.

I'm not sure, LOL.

But one would think so. Ask at Community Hall - if the lawn is actually available for croquet players, then that is where the equipment would be.

Thanks Carol - I always reserve at 11 mos mark, but this was kind of a last minute trip - I was lucky to get a room @ BWV at all!

I had a dedicated studio overlooking the Village Green a couple of years ago (preferrred view). I believe it was on the 3rd floor. It had a huge balcony, was close to the elevator & overlooked part of the Boardwalk & the Beach Club. It was a great location - I loved it!:goodvibes

We own over at VWL and this is the first time we are staying at BWV and we can't wait.. 16 beautiful days so I was very interested in this question. Thank you Carol for the imput.. it does help. I just want a nice 1 bdrm facing the pool with a nice view...

Again thanks for the imput!

My DF and I are staying at BWV for the first time in November, and were able to get a preferred view. Our home is Saratoga Springs, but the BW area holds a special place in our hearts. Other than the BW, I really could not care what we look at. It's not like we are in our room enough for it to truly matter.

I am pretty regimented when it comes to a Disney vacation. Get up early, get to the parks. Around 1 go for a nap with the kids. Back to the park later in the afternoon, and stay in the parks until closing. Even when we take days off from the parks themselves, we are on the go to different areas on property.

I find it a bit interesting the most coveted view, the BW view, is the same amount of points as the preferred view. The only reason I selected Preferred is that we are on the waiting list for a BW view.

However, with all that said, I appreciate this thread for detailing what area to select when you have a preferred view. Oh and I can't stand clowns  either.

Thank you

It does on the surface but when you understand the history of how they came about, it makes more sense. Originally ALL rooms were the same but early after it opened and while still in active, ALL rooms were the same. Once people started to stay, they complained about some of the views, esp the ones that are now standard view. So they did some legal maneuvering to lower the total points for standard view early on. The BW view was a major request for obvious reasons. Then a few years ago DVC purposefully lowered their efforts to satisfy requests and so people again complained. The end result was that the BW view was made a separate booking category at the same points level. They certainly could make them differing amounts but would have to balance them per the POS.

I agree with the above recommendations but would offer one other idea. IF you plan on spending much time at MGM and are considering walking it, I'd ask for a quiet pool view. You get a view of the canal as well as the pool, walking to MGM is shorter, you can get in fairly easily from the members entrance, depending on how they have the parking lot blocked, you can park near the tennis courts and possibly be even closer.

:rotfl2: If the waitlist for Boardwalk view does not work out for you, then you'd best request either a view of the quiet pool or the croquet lawn. Otherwise, Murphy's Law dictates that you get a room directly facing the CLOWN. And then you'll have to stay off the balcony and keep the drapes closed! ;) :teeth:

Good point, as a 38 year old volunteer fireman, clowns still freak the heck out of me. :scared:. Oh well, we all have our fears. Whether we admit them or not is a different story. Thanks for the advice. I've considered dropping to a standard room if we don't get BW view. Then I could add on two nights.

Thanks

Not sure when you plan to go in November, but getting a standard view may be even more difficult than getting the Boardwalk view. Both the BW view and SV villas go very quickly - most are booked by owners right at the 11 month window.

Except for the week before Thanksgiving week (Food & Wine over and too early for Holiday activities/decorations), November is a tough time to get the Epcot Resorts at all, let alone the BW and SV villas.

Not saying you shouldn't try - sometimes you get lucky. Just don't want you to count on a back up plan that probably isn't realistic.

My parents were in a fifth floor studio that did overlook the clown pool ... however, they also had fabulous views of the waterway and DHS. I would say that the clown was a very small portion of the overall view from their room. Our room was a dedicated studio facing the clown pool - our view was of a tree and part of Leaping Libations ... the tree pretty much made it a no view room (we couldn't even see the clown unless we ducked). But, the clown pool area could be very noisy at times during our spring break stay (they played loud music, had pool games and a DJ in the afternoon ... pool noise really wasn't much of a problem at night b/c the "action" stops by 8:00pm or so).

If I ever visit BWV again, I'll request an upper floor facing the quiet pool ... it was very pretty and seemed very peaceful there even during spring break (no DJ).

On a side note, I didn't really find the clown to be creepy or that big during our stay. It really just kind of blends with the theming. I suppose if you truly have a clown phobia it would be bothersome ... otherwise, I wouldn't worry about the clown at all.
