I'm looking for feedback on the Coronado Springs vs the Double tree in Downtown Disney. What are the tradeoffs between the two. We will be at WDW June 1 to June 5.

We will be bringing the kids (5 & 8) and my sis nephew and parents will be in another room/suite

Thanks,
Geep

Double tree in Downtown Disney is not considered being onsite, it is not owned by Disney.

Coronado springs resort is on property and owned by Disney.

I've never stayed at either, but I have stayed offsite before (only once) and promised I would never do that again. It is very hard to explain, but being offsite feels like taking day trips to Disney. Being onsite feels like 24 hrs a day vacation!

Welcome to DIS!!!

Your answer depends on who you ask. If you ask here in the Resorts board you will get one answer and if you ask over on the Orlando board you will get another :). This board is populated by on-site fans and the Orlando board is populated by folks who prefer to save money or have more room for the same amount of money.

I have done both :). However, I prefer to be on Disney propery. Unless you plan on using the kitchenette facilities at the Doubletree, I would recommend trying the Coronado Springs (CS). You and your family will love it :).

I've never stayed at either one; but I would pick to stay on property any time!:D I've stayed off property once (at the Hotel Royal Plaza), and it was a very nice hotel. But, it really was like taking day trips to Disney. I like to be immersed in the magic 24 hours a day!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

we are annual visitors and stay on site about half the time. we have stayed at doubletree guest suites once. it is roomier than CS because you get two rooms plus a mini kitchen with a nuke and fridge, there are three tvs, on in each room and one in the bathroom, i liked this i could do my business and plan my business at the same time because they have the disney park info channel. the buses are more like greyhound type instead of the gestapo type seating on the disney busses. downside is no waterslide at the pool. we are staying there for seven nites this year and three at the hard rock hotel. any questions just ask.

Coronado Springs Definately! It is a beautiful resort, great themed pool, better food options, recreation options, onsite, loved the little beach/hamock areas. IMO it's no contest!

Everyone is right this will come down to personal choice. The Doubletree is in the DD area but at the end of the street. It is your typical suite hotel, just what you would find in any major city. The extra room & kitchenette would definitely be a plus. Mears buses run the transportation for the DD hotels and do a fine job.

As for the CSR I have stayed there several times and it is your typical Disney hotel. Themed from the Buildings down to the shower curtains you feel like you are in Southern CA or atleast the Disney version. It is a full service resort with several pools, exercise room & restaurants. You will find Disney transportation not to far from your front door. If you have never stayed at a Disney resort it is hard to explain the total experience that takes place.

I would suggest taking a look at the links listed above you might want to order the vacation video/DVD or cdrom. Both resorts will be covered.

I cant tell you how much we regretted staying at a DD (non-disney but on property) resort.

You will never catch my family staying anwhere but in a disney reosrt again. There is pixie dust everywhere and when its missing, you know it.

If you plan on relying on bus transportation to the parks, the Doubletree Service isn't as good as the Coronado will be. I've never stayed at the Doubletree, but I have stayed at the Grosvenor. The buses don't seem to run as frequently, and they leave you off in the middle of a parking lot as opposed to an actual spot. I've never been comfortable waiting in the parking lot for the bus, especially with kids in tow. That's just me.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of the Coronado Springs resort. I don't like the set up of their food court (nor th fact that they charge a 10% gratuity or service fee or whatever they are calling it to your meals when you eat there). I found the resort to be very noisy, and the walls paper thin. We heard the footsteps of the people in the room above us, and voices and TV of the people in the rooms around us.

Like everyone has said, it is definitely a personal choice. I know that I prefer to stay right in a Disney hotel for all of the conviences, and the fun themeing at most of the resorts.
