Cast--Liz, Jason(DH), Neth(DS10), Brenne(DD4), mom(aka lala), dad(aka papa), Jimmie(DB32), Geoff(DB24), Brad(DBIL29), Rick(DBIL40)
It is Tuesday, which means that it is DVC Member Day. My mom is determined to go (even though she is not a member, which I keep pointing out). Member Day, they have activities and fun stuff, a BBQ, at the different DVC resorts. They also have a contest, whereby you have to fill out a card and answer questions. So mom has spent the last few days wandering around the resort asking various strangers "Are you a DVC member?" A little nutty? Yes. Embarrassing? Yes. Totally mom? YYYYEEESSS
She has her card filled out (which says in fine print you must be a member to enter!), and brings it with her.
We go to the Magic Kingdom via bus, which arrives shortly. Brad is excited. He has never been and always wanted to go. It has been his dream since childhood, so I am excited for him.
It is a little before 3 when we arrive. All of us make it quickly through the turnstiles, except mom. Have no idea what she did here, but she keeps inserting her card, scanning her fingers, pushing on the turnstiles, and nothing happens. She can't get in. I have to video.... The look on her face is too funny. People are piling up behind her and we are all giggling. Finally a CM helps her through. She just laughs. (The laugh of the insane!)
We enter onto Main Street, everyone is getting ready for the parade. I run across to see how long the wait is at the Barbershop, but there are quite a few people waiting. We want Brenne's first haircut to be done here. We decide to check later. We walk over to the Confectionary. Brad buys turtles and some candy, Rick springs for my taffy and water. (Because he felt silly just buying water!) Back outside, we talk and seems nobody wants to see the parade. So we head for Frontierland.
We get into Adventureland, and it begins to pour. Jason takes the kids into the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. From here, wearing our ponchos we trek out and go to the Enchanted Tiki Room. People are taking shelter in here from the rain, and it is filling up fast. We get in the last row. I want to see the preshow, so I let people go ahead of me. Once the doors open, we sit about three rows back from the center of the room. I think it is a cute show, singing birds, with Iago insulting everyone--including the audience. Mom has her mouth open, in awe I think, for most of the show.
When it's over, we head out and stand under an umbrella. Jason is going to buy an extra poncho, but I tell him we might as well all walk over, ride Pirates, and buy the poncho when we exit. So that is what we do. I love this ride. Brenne is still scared a bit, but she sits by Uncle Brad and points out neat things to him anyway, such as the hairy leg.
When the ride is over, we kind of all get seperated in the gift shop. The line to purchase stuff is very long. I go to get the stroller, Jas and Neth follow. We wait a bit for others, but when they don't show up, we go back to the gift shop. There is a band of musical, marauding pirates entertaining guests.
Brad finally emerges with a poncho and some Winnie the Pooh lollipops. One for everybody!
With it raining so hard, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain RR are both shut down, so we walk on through to Liberty Square. Mom decides to go catch her bus to the resort for Member Days.
The rest of us walk over to the Haunted Mansion. Brenne says she will ride. Neth is scared, but will go too. Dad isn't interested, so I tell him that the Hall of Presidents is right around the corner if he wants to see it.
We get in line and it moves quickly, within a couple of minutes we are in the stretching room. We are told to move "to the dead center of the room." The room starts stretching and we tell Neth to make sure and look up (lots of surprises if you do). A door opens and we head for our doombuggies. Brenne wants to sit with mommy and daddy, so that leaves terrified Neth with his two uncles. Brenne keeps her eyes open through the entire ride! She likes the dancing ghosts, and especially the hitchhiking ghost at the end (who sat on her lap!). Neth on the other hand covered his eyes and ears, he did look at the hitchhiking ghost though.
Outside of the ride I took the time to look at the pet cemetary, a little creepy, and just one reason why I think Disney does it best.
We grab dad and walk into Fantasyland. Peter Pan has a long line, 50 minutes, and is out of Fastpass. Nope! Instead we go to Ricks fav, It's A Small World! No wait here, and we climb into our boat. As I said earlier, Brenne loves this ride. The song, the dolls, all the bright colors. I like the dolls too. Rick and Jason, however, need some tylenol.
It is worth it though, to see Brenne singing and bouncing along.
We step outside and the rain is slowing a bit. We decide to go to Cinderella's Carousel. We are in line waiting, the ride is stopping. Suddenly we hear the worst thud! A woman slipped while getting down off her horse and hit her head, very hard. The CM gets some towels for her, we see them being held up to her head. Then he calls for paramedics. The ride is shut down. We go across from the ride to seek shelter, as the rain is starting again, and so we can decide where to go from here. It takes a while for the paramedics to show up, and with them some men in suits. I am sure they were management there to ask questions.
We decide to go eat, but where? Everyone says they are tired of chicken. I say we can hop on the monorail and go to Kona Cafe, but it will be a bit more pricey than counter service in the park. We decide to look for an in-house phone to call for a PS.
We walk around the castle, and ask some janitors. They don't really speak English, but point us in the direction of----Fantasyland. We walk around a kiosk, and ask a security guard, he seems unsure. We decide to forget it, and eat at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland. Really, the food here is pretty good. Jason and I split the family rotisserie chicken meal, with mashed potatoes. Finally, we find something Brenne will eat! She loves the mashed potatoes, so we shovel them into her mouth. Dad gets me a cup of cream of chicken soup with veggies, which is really pretty good.
It is nasty out, and we are all wondering if E-night is even going to happen. We already got our wristbands, and so far all I have seen with them is a couple of teenagers and one other family. So I am thinking, "Yeah! Not crowded. Just two teens and a family."
After we eat, we exit into Tomorrowland and observe the crowds. The rain seems to have driven most people away. Buzz Lightyear is showing a five minute wait, so we head on over. This ride is so much fun! It is like being inside of a video game. Brenne and I have our own star cruiser, and I think I am doing really good with my score of 68,000, until I glance ahead and see Jason's which is well over 150,000. Figures! Still, a lot of fun. We decide to go again. Walk on again. Brenne rides with daddy this time, I am by myself. Still don't score too high. Around 100,000. Jason's is over 200,000. I am going to have to learn the secrets to this game so I can kick his booty!!!!!!
Once we are off, Neth, Jas, Brad and Rick go to ride Space Mountain. Dad goes to wait for mom under the Tomorrowland entrance, and I take Brenne on the Astro Orbiter.
The wait time for both rides is listed as 15 minutes, but our ride takes longer. That is okay though, it is worth it.
You get a great view of the park from up here. Wish I had videotaped it, as the sun was setting and the sky was a beautiful wash of purple, pink, orange and blue. Cinderella's castle was lit up, as well as Tomorrowland. Brenne of course kept our rocket all the way up. Very nice flight, Brenne thought it was a blast. Once we landed it was back into the elevator to get to the ground level. I would have gone again, but the line had doubled!
By this time, the park has closed and only wristband wearers are allowed on rides.
Everyone was waiting for us and said I had to go on Space Mountain. So I went with Neth. Five minute wait. This was so scary to me, because it is in the dark and you can't see a thing. I put my hands up at the beginning, like I always do on coasters, then quickly put them down for fear of having them whacked off. I admit it, I screamed. But I loved it.
When we exited, mom had returned. With lots of balloons. Lots and lots.... And she was a little drunk to boot. Although she insists now that she was not. She was swaying and slurring her speech. And being very silly. And she was mad that one of her many balloons had been stolen. I guess you can never have too many balloons.
What did she have? Singapore Slings, two of them.
Anyway.
Neth wanted to go back on Space Mountain, so dad, Uncle Rick and I went with him. Jason, mom and Brenne went on the TTA.
And I screamed in Ricks ear.
We decided to do Alien ExtraTERRORestrial Encounter next, Neth is big enough. So dad, Brad, Rick and I take him to it while mom, Jason and Brenne go ride Buzz Lightyear.
I loved Alien Encounter. I liked to hear peoples reactions. The only thing that bothered me is people (mostly teens) fake screaming throughout it. Kind of ruins the mood. But it was still a good show. There is one boy around Neths age crying and begging to be let out, however you are held into your seat by a harness. There is no way out. So you really needed to know your kids and heed the warnings before you took them to this. I keep my hand on Neths lap through out the show, for comfort. But he handles it pretty well.
Next, I want to take mom. I want to see if she will scream. Dad and I take her, and everyone else waits outside.
Mom does good too. She doesn't scream, although she did look shocked when Skippy gets fried during the preshow. I get picked as the audience teleportation volunteer and wave to everybody. (Nothing really happens). Mom has her mouth open through the whole show, as though she can't believe it.
When we are done, I have to buy a Skippy toy for myself, he is so cute.
Jason is ready to head over to Splash Mountain, so we walk towards Frontierland. A lot of characters are out signing autographs in the hub, but there are crazy lines.
We go to Big Thunder Mountain, where the posted time says 20 minutes, but the line seems to be moving much faster. Mom asks what it is like, so we tell her it is like a runaway mine train. She decides she can handle it, so we all go. The line only takes about ten minutes. We board our train, Brenne wants to sit by mommy.
Up the lifthill through the caverns, and off we go. This is a lot of fun at night. The view again of the park is great. Brenne gets a little scared by the falling rocks, but otherwise has her hands up in the air. She loves roller coasters. Mom is a different story. After this ride, she is done for the night.
We walk across to Splash Mountain, we try and talk mom into going, but she doesn't trust us. Again there is a posted wait time of 20 minutes, but it is shorter than that. Brenne is really nervous. She doesn't want to get splashed in the face.
Here is the one sour spot I have during our time in the Magic Kingdom. When we are getting on our boat, I am helping Brenne ( a toddler, who is a little slower than us bigger folks). The CM tells me that I need to "hurry it on up, there's a lot more people behind you." Not the words, but the tone he used. Didn't let it spoil the ride, but I thought it unnecessary.
Off we go into the world of Brer Rabbit. This is Jason's favorite ride. He likes it because you can find something new in it everytime you ride. Brenne keeps looking at all the animals, while saying "I hate this." She really hated the plunge at the end.
We exit the ride and discuss what to do. It is nearing eleven, closing time. A ride on Big Thunder again.
After that ride, things are starting to shut down, so we head for the exit. So sad to be leaving.
At the bus stop, we park it on a bench. Our stop is packed. Geoff hops in line with Neth though, so they are on their way soon. We wait for a few buses to come and go since it is so crowded. We still wind up standing. Nobody gives up a seat to a sleeping toddler. Seriously, she slept standing up on the bus, leaning against her stroller. Back at the resort, all I want to do is crash........so that is what I do.
It is Tuesday, which means that it is DVC Member Day. My mom is determined to go (even though she is not a member, which I keep pointing out).
