if I reserve one year ahead? I hear that they are limited so how do they go about renting them out? Thanks!

Thump,

The way it works is you reserve "a" cart in advance.

I think carts are due back on day of return by 11am and available on day of pickup at 1pm (if I am wrong someone will correct me).

The Fort does have a few 6-seaters but they can't be reserved in advance.

All anyone can do is when they go to pick up their cart they can ASK if a 6-seater is available. If it is then you can get it and they will settle up on the difference due. So it doesn't matter HOW FAR in advance you make the ressie. What matters is if one is available when you go to pick up. On that day.

It's not cut-dried-clean. It's more pot luck. So get your ressie in for one (or two if needed) and I guess try to go early in the PM to see if they have any 6-ers available.

Thanks Bama
I had a feeling that was the case but was hoping. You mentioned early PM, what is the significance of that time?

All that means, thump my friend, is in this scenario:

- by the required return time (11am?), the Fort has 2 6-seaters available.
- at 1pm, someone comes to pick up, asks for a 6, and gets one.
- at 2pm, someone comes to pick up, asks for a 6, and gets one.
- at 3pm when thumpersfriend comes to pick up, there are none left.

I don't want you to get left out if there was a chance of getting a 6-er. So go as early as you can on the pickup day near the pickup time (golf cart ressies are not time specific other than "anytime after....") to give yourself the best chance.

That's all you can do. No guarantees. But confirm when the official pickup time is/starts to do all you can do.

Bama my friend,

Love your sense of humor! Ok, so another question. If I rent them a year out and have to rent 2 carts and they are waiting for us at check-in, then I would go to the bike barn to try to exchange for a 6 seater? Probably answered my own question, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks much.

Well, you can go to the Bike Barn if you want but if you get one you'll end up back at the Outpost check-in building which is where the carts are picked up and dropped off. The calls regarding golf carts and reservations are logged at the Bike Barn, true, but if there IS a 6-er available you'll be going up front to get it.

Just ask the Cast Member when you pick up (and ask) initially which location (Bike Barn or there at the pickup point) to check at for a 6-er. Whichever, if you can check around 11am when they're all due back, you might snag one. And I bet they'll adjust your bill for the difference.

Thanks Ed, good to know that you can pick up carts right when you check in. Last time we were there we had to drive and get a cart at the bike barn. So if we don't need a six seater we just check in, grab our cart and begin our vacation, nice.

Yes, here's a satellite photo of the checkin area now.

I saw you're coming in on DME which should drop you at the Fort where that bus is just to the right of the check-in building.

Carts for people to pick up are in the pickup area just beyond the check-in lanes. There is usually a Cast Member about shuttling carts back and forth from the Storage Lot area.

Have Fun. You got me excited now!

Ed, that photo was perfect, now I understand! Our group will love checking in and taking a cart to their cabins. It will start the week out on a great note. Well, that is one question out of the way. There will be lots more questions so glad I have a go to guy, thanks again.

GREAT picture :thumbsup2 You're a wealth of knowledge. I just called last week about reserving a cart and asked about the six seater, also. The lady did tell me that if one is not available, she will put our name on a waiting list and call us if or when it becomes available. Does this sound right?

That would work too. I would use every avenue available but I prefer the face-to-face interaction with the CM.
