Just wanted to let everyone that is dealing with a loss this holiday, be it a spouse, child or other family member or friend know that you are not alone.

It's been four years since my wife passed away, and Christmas ever since has been very bittersweet. On our trip to WDW this year, I bought a Minnie Angel tree topper at the Christmas store. I told the kids it's Mommy, since she's also an angel.

Yesterday while cleaning I came across some old video tapes. Threw them in the VHS, and it was of my wife and me, on our first Christmas together.

I know it's a rough time of year for some people, but do your best to remember the good times of the past, and possibly set some new traditions for the future.

Thanks, Disney Dad. We are dealing with loss in my family, too. I'm finding that just going through the motions of holiday rituals is helpful even if I don't quite feel as enthusiastic about it all. And knowing that there are people who care and who have experienced loss if I need to chat is helpful.

I wish everyone as good a holiday season as possible, and here's hoping that things get better with time! :grouphug:

I cannot imagine what it must be like to go through something like this. I hope you find some peace and joy this holiday season.

Disney Dad, I echo your sentiments. It does get softer over the years but I can still remember those Christmas memories with my late parents and husband. My mother died in December but she had bought and wrapped all our Christmas presents. In April several months later is when my husband died. The next Christmas was our first Christmas in WDW because I couldn't stand to do Christmas without my Mom and husband.

Personally I am glad when the holidays pass. Too many memories. I will keep everyone struggling with this in my prayers this year.

Paul, thanks for starting this thread. I am thinking about you and your kids and wishing you guys a peaceful Christmas.

My sweet husband lost both of his parents between September 2009 and February 2010, and we are definitely missing them today.

Sorry to read about your loss Disney Dad, I lost my youngest DS :littleangel: in July '09. This will be the second Christmas without him and I find myself bursting into tears daily when some memory is triggered by something I see or hear during this season. I put up a very small tree this year, last year I had none. I did some shopping and need to wrap the gifts before tomorrow but I am dreading it.

Thanks for this thread. My family is dealing with a loss this year as well. It's tough.

It always seems like so much tragedy occurs during the holidays, doesn't it?

As some of you may know, my sister-in-law passed away after a battle with Leukemia on 12/16. She was only 46 years old, and left behind my brother and 6 year-old twins. It's extraordinarily tough. I have no idea what he's going through, or how he's getting through it. We're doing whatever we can, but as you all know, nothing *REALLY* helps during a time like this...

Disney Dad Canada, you mentioned in the other thread about my sister-in-law that I could contact you. Would you mind if I sent you a pm about my brother?

No problem at all. I know all about dealing with twins as a single parent. It was really rough last week when they were both crying coming home from school, because they were making presents for Mommys at school that day.

Thank you for starting this thread. We had the wake for my mother in law yesterday. We are trying to have a normal Christmas for our kids but it's harder than we expected.
