Finally decided I'm going to get a laptop to take to the lake - and to take with me to Florida when I go down for the winters..

I've been messing with my DD's for a week now and the only thing I don't like about it is the "finger" mouse thing.. Any suggestions for a good wireless mouse?

I'll also need an all-in-one printer-scanner-copier but I want one with EXCELLENT photo-quality printing.. I'll need to bring it to the lake, as well as Florida - and although I know they tend to be on the "large" side, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good one? Also how much the ink cartridges run..

I can't believe I'm actually going to spend money on myself, but I just got the "lecture" from my DD and her DH about how I spend nothing on myself (no dinners out; no hair/nail appointments; buy my clothes and most everything else in garage sales; and didn't even go to Florida this year)
so I guess I'll "take a walk on the wildside" and buy myself something that I know I'll get TONS of use out of.. :teeth:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks!

I love my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. I'm not sure about printers though. But really, Logitech has been the best mouse I've had yet.

This mouse is great. My dad and I both have them. He's had his for about a year, and the battery lasts forever. I've only used mine since this fall, and use it probably 10-12 hours a day (well, that's how long it's plugged in) and just had to change the battery last week for the first time. It really is a great mouse
As for the printer, I don't know much about all in ones, but I would go with an HP if you want good picture quality, because there's are second to none

I use this........

As a separte mouse, it would be this....... http://www.microsoft.com/products/i...use&gpid=8b6df56b-4657-4124-9d8f-3a150ac859d6

Excellent.

And for printing, I use a all-in-one laser printer, plus a separae photo quality printer, not what you are looking for.

ETA....I do use the one Heather linked above, for airplane use, it is great too. I do like a few more features though when not flying and at a desk, laptop or not.

I HIGHLY recommend the Microsoft wireless laptop laser mouse. It's a bit smaller than the standard mouse, but not rediculously so. It runs on a single 'AA' battery and I replace mine around every three or four months. It would probably last longer, but I'd rather replace it when I think of it than when it stops working. The main reason I like it, besides it fits my hand really well is that when you unlug the USB receiver out of the laptop it stores right in the base of the mouse and completely shuts the mouse off. It saves batteries, the receiver doesn't get lost -- it's a winner. I got mine at Comp USA for around $35 a year ago.

For an all in one, I have a HP7310 (?) at work and it's very nice. It prints both sides, scans, faxes, and has been relyable. (Did I just say that out loud?) I can't speak for ink costs as our office manager keeps me in stock and I don't have to worrry about such things so I've never checked...

I'm not sure which wireless mouse I bought from Dell when I bought my laptop -- I'll have to check (it was part of one of Dell's "kits") but it was a complete piece of garbage. I would only consider giving it to my worst enemy in hopes of driving them insane...

Edited to add: This is the Microsoft mouse I like (though mine's a spiffy steel blue :teeth: ) http://www.microsoft.com/products/i...use&gpid=8b6df56b-4657-4124-9d8f-3a150ac859d6

For Printers HP is good quility printer.

Mouse: I stick with Microsoft stuff and have never been disappointed.

I really like my Cannon printer. Tried Lexmark and HP. You get what you pay for.

I've had a couple different ones, including the microsoft. I prefer the logitech. Be sure you get one for a laptop. Let your hand work with it and see which one you like the best. It's all in the feel.

As far as an all in one (I'm not fond of them at all..if part breaks, you have a nice paperweight), I don't know of one that does a wonderful job on photo's. That's usually their downfall. As fond as I am of HP's, I'm not fond of their photo printing. Epson's got the 5 stars on that. Safetymom is an Epson rep..maybe she knows if they have a 3 in one. Regular photo printers, (if you need the 3 in one and still want great photo's) if you don't need them to do a lot have come way down in price. The older model Epson Picture Mate is nice. It's carry able, but then you would have to tote two printers. They do have very small printers also for laptops.

You asked about ink costs...Of course the thing I like about HP's is the printhead is in the ink. That makes the ink expensive, but I've gone through a couple printheads in my Canon's..and the printheads are as much as I paid for the printers..$45..so I think I'm not replacing my Canon's. It's hard to compare ink costs, because you have to take into consideration things like printheads. I would never get a Lexmark (which is what the Dell printers are). They suck up ink wayyy to much. The print looks nice, but it's costly.

Sounds like you are getting a Dell..our Dell laptop has been good (even though I like my Toshiba better..it may be that it's newer). Our Dell is heavier, even though the screen is smaller, which didn't seem like much, until I carried it onto the plane, etc, so hopefully you'll get a lighter one.

I have the exact same mouse! Love it!

I have a mini mouse (ha ha Minnie Mouse) that I bought at Circuit City that I use with my laptop. It connects by USB port. I had the wireless and liked that too, but my connection thingie broke so I went with the cheaper one this time around. It is really tiny and using a full size mouse feels funny after using the samll one. The brand name is Kensington. For my printer I have an all in one photo printer from Dell (scanner, copier, printer, photo)...also a USB connection and it wasn't too expensive (I want to say under 100.00) and I love it. I just printed photos for the first time and I was impressed. The only trouble with a Dell printer is the fact that you have to order your cartridges through Dell.

Well my son-in-law went ahead and ordered the Dell laptop for me tonight.. I got the Inspiron E1505 with a bunch of upgrades..

Not sure what to do about the printer-copier-scanner.. I have an HP printer (DeskJet 932C) that I absolutely LOVE.. The photo quality is awesome, but I was hoping I could get some kind of 3-in-one so I don't have to transport so many things.. Guess I'll just have to get out there and check them over..

I'll check out all the mouses you have listed here (actually DD wants to get one too) and see what feels like a good "fit"..

I still can't believe I did this.. I still haven't even figured out how to use the digital camera the kids got me 3 years ago (other than to take pics for eBay - LOL) - have never bought a memory card for it because I'm not sure what I need to get; they bought me the photo printer that goes with the camera this year and I haven't figured that out yet; and now I'm getting this new fangled laptop and I'm barely able to struggle my way thru Windows98 on my desk top - LOL.. I'm going to tackle all of this up to the lake and I figure in 3 months or so I should be about ready to have a nervous breakdown.. :teeth:

If the kids bought you a photo printer, you should be all set for that part. And if you are happy with the HP932 as a photo printer, just about any of the newer 3 in ones should satisfy you.

Size is important - can't take up too much room so I'm really going to have to get out there and look.. I'll try to do that tomorrow after I finish up some other things I have to do..

I have a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard. Both have taken a beating and still work perfectly!
