Best way to ride ROTR

We are off property. I'm thinking my best plan is rope drop . LL have been selling out early. What time do you think is good to get to DHS?

As an offsite guest, I don't think I would plan rope dropping ROTR. The line will already be pretty long with onsite guests. I have found the best time to do ROTR without buying it, is in the evening. DHS doesn't have much evening entertainment (and the projection shows aren't major draws), so people often don't stay at night. The ride lines are much shorter, as a result. I did ROTR in November, 10 minutes before park close and it was a walk-on!

I'm just afraid we won't get on it at all. I heard it breaks down a lot. It's the #1 ride we want.

I haven't had a problem with that in recent months, but yes, you could definitely wait in line at park opening since it's a priority. You could always ride again at park close!

When we were there during Thanksgiving week it had broken down a lot. We had an evening time we paid the extra fee for and found out when we got there for our 6 pm it was not running and was the second time that day. Luckily it was back up in an hour and we had hung around that area so the LL line was not bad yet of people coming back. That whole week stand by was 3 hours every time I checked the tip board even at night. I would go early for the standby line but try for the paid one if the wait time is long you don’t have to have Genie+ to be able to select the extra fee and get a LL time. They may be gone but it never hurts to try.

This ride breaks down frequently so going at the end of the day may not work. The ride may not be running or they could close the standby line early (I believe they did this with FoP when it first opened).

Thanks. That is my plan. Trying for paid LL and rope drop and evening time

Was just there…. Unless Sunday was an anomaly, DO NOT go to RoR first in the morning and get in line …that is what everybody does and it immediately starts with a 2 1/2 hour line. Even with the early entry there was humongous line even getting in to galaxies edge at 730 early opening ….and later in the day the line went down to more like 90 minutes. The rule for Disney is do the opposite of what the majority do and the majority went straight to rise of the resistance in the interim my kids were able to do rockin roller coaster tower of terror AND Smugglers run in the first hour. it might pay to just watch MDE for a day before you go from morning and then throughout the day the wait time for it to make an informed choice but it seems like unless you truly are like the first person it is a mass of people in the morning.

Rise of the Resistance sold out before we could get to it on November 4. So we bit the bullet and got on ROR standby around 3:45 PM when it said it was 130 minutes. Including the 18 minutes for the actual ride, it was a total of 90 minutes approximately.

I'm thinking of trying to stop at HS about an hour before they close..... would this be too late to try the line? IS there a cutoff where they don't allow anyone else in?

It depends on how the ride is running that day. In November, we got in line 20 minutes before close, and once 9 minutes before park close. It worked out amazingly well, as we basically just walked into the first preshow. Before going to DHS, check the app to see if the ride is still running. It could be a fantastic strategy.

I'll do that-thanks! Is the app usually accurate if it's open or down?

Usually it is accurate. You may want to check a few nights before your trip, to see what the app is saying an hour before park close. That will give you a feel for what to expect.

I've never heard of FOP closing early, and we visited the first year that Pandora opened.

For ROTR, the O.P. probably should plan more than one evening attempt to ride it.

Most of the bloggers I've been reading have suggested getting in line right as the park is closing. Not sure if this would help and just speculating, but you could Uber to the Swan/Dolphin and walk to the park. This would get you there before the skyliner, buses begin drop offs and before the parking lot opens. You would be in the front of the line for the full park opening.

So we were there 1st week of January. Rode 3 times with NO genie ll. Twice at closing and once at rope drop.

RD wait said 75 mins. Waited 35.
Closing got in line at 6. Was 90 minutes both times

So closing time was at 8:00, and wait times were already shorter than usual at 6:00? What were typical wait times the rest of the day?

Park closed at 9pm when we were there but yes lines were long all day. I think most people got in line during the day to make sure they got on. It breaks down a lot.

What happens if you get in line for it at the end of the night and it goes down for the night and they send everyone out of the queue? Do you get an LL for the next day?

Are you saying that you spent the last 3 hours in the park just to ride this twice?
