we will be renting a car even though we are staying onsite at CBR, others are telling me that it is ok to drive to the parks but MK since the parking lot and TTC is so far away.

Would it be a good idea to drive to and park at say Contempary and ride the monorail to MK ?

- is there a long wait to and back from MK to the resort ?
- is the monorail station right at the MKs TTC ?

thanks for you help ..! :worship:

You can only park at contemporary if you are eating there or visiting the resort and the max is 2 hrs. We waited a long time for buses at CBR especially trying to leave MK at night. If you want to drive then drive to TTC. Never try parking at epcot and riding the monorail to mk unless you want to waste an hour!

I thought as long as you stay onsite, you can park at any disney resorts...is that still true ?

No at the Monorail resorts & Epcot resort you must have an ADR & you get a 2-3 hour parking pass. If you do decide to drive we just kinda watch as we are walking up if the Ferry is there & getting ready to leave we take that or if there is a huge line for the monrail. But I love the ferry.
MK is the one park we bus to.

OP- why are you renting a car if you are staying onsite?

I can't answer for the OP but we always stay on site AND rent a car. With the exception of some hotel/park combinations it is almost always faster and easier to drive to the parks than take the bus. If you want to dine at or explore other resorts, not having a car saves about an hour each way.

Also, with little ones, it is much easier at the end of a long day to keep the crankies at bay in your own car than on a crowded bus. (Plus, I only have to listen to my own cranky kids if they are already past the point of no return.)

Besides breaking the rules, the monorail from Contemporary goes in the direction TTC, Poly, GF, then MK. It's probably a lot faster to park at TTC and take the express mono -or- just take the Disney bus... (But I don't like having a car @ Disney [I drive enough at home] so I'm biased toward Mouse transport!)

We always rent a car because it keeps the cranky ME in control!!!!:lmao: It is definitely easier to get in the car at the end of a long day in the parks, than to wait for a bus and have to stand during the ride. If you book thru AAA, you can get their diamond parking pass (FREE) and park a little closer to the entrance.
EXCEPT at MK, where the TTC/monorail or boat situation makes it easier to take the bus!

We are doing Disney at the end of our Florida trip. We will have a car and don't want to take time to return it to MCO - plus we need it to get out there for an early flight...

My questions are:
1) We will be staying at POR with an 11 o'clock ADR at O'hana. We want to go to Animal Kingdom after that. Best advice - take the car ?? We won't be going to the park before we eat.

2) Still at POR, we have an 11 o'clock ADR at Chef Mickey's. We will go right to Epcot after that. Best advice - take the car ? We will probably take one last ride around the monorail before we leave the area.............

Any advice/thoughts ?:worship::worship:

Option 1: I would drive
Option 2: I would park at Epcot, take the monorails to CM. Leaving, take the loop all the way around the MK monorail (if you want) and then monorail back to Epcot. Car is there when you're ready to go.

OP- why are you renting a car if you are staying onsite?

Not OP, but it is significantly cheaper for us to fly into Tampa vs Orlando. We'd have to pay transportation anyway since we stay at Shades of Green, but even paying for car + SoG parking is significantly less than flying into MCO.

I'd park @ TTC; resort monorail to Contemporary. After your ADR @ CM, monorail to TTC then switch to the Epcot monorail. When you leave Epcot, monorail to TTC, then switch to the MK express monorail for a full lap. That way you will have ridden the full circuit of each line that day and won't have doubled anything up (thus saving time for other things you may want to do).

bingo..!! so far, with all the feedbacks from friends and forums, about half thinks it is a waste of money to rent the car , other half thinks it is a must....well...I still have a month to decide I suppose....

Last year we planned a last minute trip and stayed off property so we drove to all the parks. We found that the most time consuming park to get to driving was the MK. Getting out of the park at the end of the day was a nightmare. I can't tell you how long it took us to get on the monorail and then it was so packed it was horrible. We're seriously thinking during this years trip since we're staying on property of driving to every park but the MK.

yes I heard the same, don't drive to MK since the parking lot and TTC is so far away, but did you mean getting out at end of day was bad because of the monorail to the TTC or to the parking lot ?
