My 14 yo DD and I will be at DLR in March. She would like to spend a day in Hollywood. Is it feasible to take the train/subway there and back? We could rent a car, but I would prefer to avoid driving.

I have no idea if they have buses or something that goes to Hollywood, I'm pretty sure there are no trains or subways though. You could take a taxi, but it would cost quite a bit. I know you want to avoid driving, but your best bet would be to rent a car and drive there...unless you want to pay a lot for a cab of course! ;)

You could do a tour. Gray Line does an LA/Hollywood tour that picks you up in Anaheim at certain hotels, then takes you around to see the sights in Hollywood, and drops you off back in Anaheim that night. GetAwayToday has discount tickets for $56 per person.

Getawaytoday has decent prices on tickets, but they dont include transportation as far as I know. You would have to make them seperately through Southern California Gray Line. But if you purchase your tickets through GL then it automatically includes round trip transportation. They pick you up at the closest bus stop near your hotel and drop you off there at the end of the day.

There are loads of different tour packages that you can get through Gray Line. You can do a Universal Studios tour, a Universal/Hollywood experience where after park closing they take you to the biggest spot around Hollwood for you to walk around at leisure and take pictures, there are trips to Hollywood to do a free fun day of shopping, there are see Stars home tours, Mexico day tours etc.

Totally take a look. Its worth it. :thumbsup2

when we were at disneyland in january we went to Hollywood twice.

First time we went by ourselves, (on a way to the taping of the ellen show) we caught the 460 bus from Disneyland to metro centre train station, then caught a train to Hollywood/Highland. We were dropped right next to the metro centre station and then the train station at hollywood is right next to the kodak centre etc.

It was a long bus trip, but i didnt want to bother with having to get from anaheim to anaheim train station.

It cost us $5 each for an all day bus and rail ticket and then $1.25 each way zone fare on the bus.

We also did a grayline tour of LA/Hollywood. I really loved that. there was only 8 of us on the tour!
We stopped at arcadia st, hollywood/highland (spend about hour there) then went to farmers market/the grove for lunch (about hour and a half) and then we got a choice between santa monica or venice beach (we all choose santa monica - we stayed there for 2 hours) i really liked the tour, we had a great tour guide! he was a local and knew sooo much!

Yes, you can take the Metrolink commuter train from Anaheim (on Katella) or Fullerton (on Harbor Blvd) stations to LA's Union Station and then take the Metro Red Line to Hollywood/Highland station. The Metrolink round trip fare includes the subway fare, so that saves a bit. Alternatively you can take Amtrak from the same train stations but it costs a bit more and you also have to spring for the subway fare. So yes, it's feasible. I think the MTA 460 bus is a good option and the cheapest, but will take a while longer.

You would have to take from Disneyland the bus to downtown Los Angeles then walk or take a city bus/shuttle to the red line then that to Universal Studios then go upstairs then across the street and find a shuttle to the Studios.

Take a cab to Amtrak then train to downtown then go to red line etc.

I would go with a tour company like Greyline. They will pick up at certain points then deliver you after a nice ride instead of the urban night mare. The Disneyland to LA buses both go through my town and the one I did not mention takes up to 4 hours.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied. I think we are going to go with the Grayline option. It will cost a bit more, but seems the most efficient. I also read some reviews, and everyone seems to have positive things to say about the Grayline tours.
