Can someone please help me and let me know what would be the best way to get to a grocery store while at WDW. We were driving our own car, but got a great deal on airline tickets last night. So now we will not have a car while we are down there. Any advice?

Thanks in advance!!

If you take a TownCar service from the Airport to the hotel they will include a grocery store stop as part of the service. This would be the easiest solution. Otherwise I think taxi would be the way to go while at WDW.

I know that you probably won't choose this option, but just so you know - Goodings and a couple of other local stores is about a 15 - 25 minute walk from Downtown Disney. It's free, but it'll take a pretty good chunk of time out of your day.

If it were me, I would definitely use a taxi service to Publix (it's a lot cheaper and just a tiny bit further). There's a SuperWalmart as well, (very inexpensive) but that's a 20 minute drive or so. Just throwing some options out there.

Towncar service with a grocery stop is one option. Another might be renting a car for just one day. Pick it up at the airport when you arrive, stop at the grocery store on the way to WDW, then return the car to the Car Care Center or the Dolphin the next day. We've done this on several occasions and not only does it usually cost less than a Towncar, you can take your time on the grocery run.

HTH's!

You can return the rental car to the Dophin resort at WDW? What is the Car Care Center and where is that located? So, I don't have to return it back to the airport? What Towncar service do you recommend? I'll check both to see what's cheaper.

Thanks for these tips!!

One option is to bring your food and just buy milk in your resort. The mini-mart at Hess has good pricing if you're basically looking for soda and water. You can take a DTD bus to the PI stop and walk across the parking lot. There is a crosswalk with a light so it's safe.

It really depends what you're looking to buy. If you're staying at a DVC resort and looking to cook some meals you probably need a real grocery stop. Renting a car for the day or paying for groceries to be delivered is probably the cheapest way to go. Renting a car also gives you an opportunity to shop at more than one store and even to go to the a Disney outlet store.

We've done the towncar and regular car and have walked to Goodings from the DTD bus stop. My views, Goodings is walkable, good evening trip because its cooler and the prices are not that bad. Only suggestion is to take a rolling duffle bags for carting the stuff back to the bus stop. Or you can walk there and take a cab back, saves ya some money. Its a good poke down the road but its a nice lighted walk past the off site resorts, open 24 hours a day, very large selection and we incorporate the grocerery stop with our DTD day usually first day at WDW. Beer on property is really expensive and thats my vice while I'm on vacation. We've taken a cab from the Poly to Pop once, about 20.00 so cabs aren't cheap in my book. I'm walking all over Disney anyway so the walk to Goodings is the start for me. Its sort of become our ritual now. Didn't really care for delivery stores either, we like to do our own picking and choosing and we normally stay at WDW 10 nights so we have pently of time for everything, including the grocery walk.

I didn't know if airlines would allow you to pack food and bring on the plane. We just need water, pop, milk, cereal and a few snacks. Where is the mini-mart at Hess? And what is the PI stop? Sorry, this is our first trip to Disney, so I am clueless.

In Sept 05 we packed snacks and breakfast items (cereal, cereal bars, muffins) just fine, then bought bottles water and milk at the resort.

I'll tell you the best way we found to "get to a grocery store" and that is to use the delivery service at www.wegoshop.com. They are going to have our groceries waiting for us when we get to our house (they also deliver to on-site resorts) right from the airport. I think it is going to cost us an extra $20 above what the groceries cost. Money well-spent if I don't have to lug 3 kids to the grocery store in DIsney! Marge is the owner and she is wonderful to work with--talked to her over the phone a few times.
You tell then exactly what you want and which store you want them to shop at (lists on their site).

Yes, there is a rental counter at the Dolphin. I know it services Alamo and National....not sure who else. There are also rental services at the Car Care Center. Here is a blurb from the Disney site:

Alamo® Rent A Car, the Official Rental Car of the Walt Disney World® Resort, is conveniently located at the Orlando International Airport and at the Car Care Center near the parking exit of the Magic Kingdom® Park. For Emerald Club customers, National Car Rental® is also located at the Car Care Center. Shuttle service to and from your location is provided seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (Holiday hours may vary.) Shuttle service should be scheduled at least one hour in advance. Call (407) 824-3470† for shuttle service and reservations.

Again, I'm not sure if there are other rental agencies at the Care Care Center. We always use National, so haven't had experience with any other.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
