We are staying at the Polynesian for our trip in August and made dinner reservations for 8pm at the Yachtsman Steakhouse (which is at the Yacht Club Resort, I think). We are going to use the in-room babysitting option for this dinner so my wife and I can go out 1 night by ourselves. What is the best way to get from Poly to YS?

Thanks!
John

The easiest way is by car or taxi. By Disney transportation, get to MK by your favorite way (ferry, monorail, boat launch, may depend upon your longhouse), then take the bus to YC. If you feel really ambitious and want to do a lot of walking, AND have park admission for that day, you can walk to the TTC, take the monorail to Epcot, then walk from the front gate through Epcot to the international gateway, from where you can easily walk or take a boat to YC. We have gone via the MK and found it took about an hour, maybe a little more. It depends upon the wait times for your connections.

You can:

~Take the bus to DHS from Poly and transfer to the boat. Travel time to Yachtsman at the Yacht Club, assuming you catch a DHS bus fairly quickly, will be about an hour.

~Take the Monorail to MK from Poly and transfer to a bus to the Yacht Club. Travel time, assuming a Yacht Club bus arrives fairly quickly, will be about an hour. Maybe a little less, depending on how fast you walk (from monorail station to bus station in front of MK) and whether you catch a monorail quickly when you leave the Poly.

~(This one assumes you have parkhoppers, or that you were in Epcot earlier that day) You can walk to the TTC from the Poly, hop on the Epcot monorail, and walk through Epcot, out the back gate (International Gateway), and over the bridge to the Yacht Club. Travel time, assuming you catch the Epcot monorail fairly quickly and walk through Epcot at a fair pace, will be just under an hour, again depending on your average walking speed.

~You can take a taxi from the Poly to the Yacht Club. One-way, this is going to run about $20 and take about 20 minutes.

There is no Resort to Resort public transporatation within WDW.
The fastest way, for sure, would be to get a taxi from the Poly directly to the YC. Cabs generally cost less than $20 each way on Disney property.

If you want to use Disney transportation you would take a bus from the Poly to the Animal Kingdom if it is open and then transfer to a bus to the YC. You could take a bus to Disney's Hollywood Studios, if it is open, and then take a boat to the YC. Note: There are NO buses from Epcot to the YC/BC. So if you took the Monorail from the Poly to Epcot you would walk all the way through Future World to the International Gateway and then continue on to the YC. If you have been in another park that day this would require a Park Hopper ticket.

An alternative is to take a bus from the Poly to DTD and again change to a bus for the YC. The buses to and from DTD have the reputation for being very slow.

I would (and did) budget and save for a taxi ride. :)

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. It sounds like a taxi will be our best bet. DW is already panicking about the cost of everything, but an extra $20 shouldn't be too bad. LOL

Just tell her, it's saving you a couple of hours in travel time for the round trip. So you can leave a little later and get back a little sooner than you otherwise would. "How much are we paying the sitter, anyway dear - I think I'm actually making you money?" ;)

(Probably closer to a break-even thing, but still...)
