Hi all,

My family is going on the June 22 Western and we are staying 3 nights at the Boardwalk first.

What is the best way to get from the Airport to the Boardwalk, to the port, then back to the airport? Is a private limo best, or should I purchase the transfers from Disney???

Thanks,
Andrea

Hi, Andrea. Welcome to the cruise boards.

My personal preference for getting around is to rent a car. I like having the flexibilty of doing everything on my own schedule, and being able to go where I want when I want. Lots of people prefer to hire a car service. Jeannie just posted some price quotes she got (Yacht Club is very close to BW)...

I'm planning for our August trip and looking into various towncar rates. I thought some of you might be interested in these rates:

MCO to Yacht Club $45 (stretch limo add $45)
YC to Disney Cruise $90 ( " " " $70)
Disney Cruise to MCO $85 ( " " " $60)

Total $220 minus $10 multi trip discount = $210 (does not include 20% gratuity)

Some people do prefer the Disney transfers for the ease... not having to touch their luggage... but they can get pretty expensive if you have several people in your party.

One possible way to reduce the cost of your rental car is to pick up a car at the airport, and then drop it off at another station near the cruise terminal. Then, after your cruise, you could pick up another car at that station and return it at the airport. I have some info about this option at my web site:

I vote for the rental also. Staying at a Disney Resort is great, they do offer the free transportation around the WDW Parks. But, you could waste alot of time waiting for the buses to pick you up taking you from one point to another, they do go from resort to resort it's not a direct resort to park ride. While a guest at the resort you are also offered a free parking pass at the parks. You can come and go much faster.

Welcome to the boards, Andrea, you'll find a lot of nice helpful people here.

Being that we've done all three ways now, I would have to say it is more dependant on what you want to do.

If all you're planning on doing is going to WDW and then the cruise, the Disney transfers are the most painless as the luggage organization alone is worth it. They include tags for you to put on your checked pieces for the way down and they will bring them right to your room at Boardwalk. You do not have to claim them at the Orlando Airport. They will then also transfer them to the ship directly for you. Then when you disembark the ship there are airline pesonnel there at the cruise terminal to check you in for your flight on the spot (the last is included either way). I think Ginger's a bit confused, The bus service to/from the resorts to the parks is good, and I think she means going from resort to resort isn't the easiest to accomplish, but all the resorts now have a bus that goes to the ticket and trans center, and, you can always cut through Epcot and Use their bus stops to go to all the resorts and back.

The Limo is a good option and we used it last time in a hybrid manner for just the return trip from the cruise to the resort(we did it in reverse of you and rented a car 1 way to Cocoa Beach for some exploring the day before we cruised) and to the airport for the flight home. But this could cost a good bit more than the disney transfers.

Renting your own car for the whole time is also a good option if you're comfortable doing all the driving around between the airport, WDW and Cape Canaveral, and would give you the flexibility to do some stops, if you wanted to.

Let me clear up what I am saying. I don't mean going resort to resort. What I mean is to much time wasted going from point A to point B to get to point C. On our last visit to the World (10/01) we had to wait as long as 30 minute for the buses to pick us up at our resort which was Old Key West. Once we did our board a bus, the bus had to go to another resort to pick up others. Our bus ride to the park ended up being more than 30 minutes that was 1 hour wasted when we could have just driven directly there in our own car, a short 10 minute ride.
Now Mark, I am not sure if the bus schedules or routes have changed since then or if 9/11 had anything to do with the slow sever, but it was not good. I sure hope your right and things are better. We'll be going back again in Oct. bringing family with us who have never done. We'll give it another try but we'll have our own transportation to back us up.:)
