Best Way to Get an Upgrade?

I should add that whomever noted the trend of category 11s being upgraded to 9s during May could have a point. That was our situation.

:p

Congratulations!!!!

Your 'Magic' has already begun!!!

Enjoy your cruise and let us all know about it:)

Vivian

P.S. We have booked the 2 rooms next to yours for next years cruise ...let us know how you like the cabins...

We also booked a cat 11 gty for the 5/13 sailing... 29 days yippee!!! We reserved back in Jan & made our final payment in March & about 3 days after our final payment our room was assigned no upgrade :(. We got our documents about 2 weeks ago & I was hoping against hope for an upgrade, but no such luck. Then today I was posting... or shall we say whining  about not getting an upgrade & I checked the DCL website & lo & behold.... an upgrade!!! From cat 11 to cat 8!! YAY! Now, don't get me wrong I am MORE than happy that we were lucky enough to get an upgrade but here's my dilemma... this is our first cruise and we never spend much time in the hotel rooms we are in, we stay at the Boardwalk because we love the atmosphere & location but we don't do it for the room, and we booked a cat 11 because you still get everything else outside your room that you do in any room! So no need to spend the big bucks to get the nicest atmosphere!! Now, we are going on a 3 nighter to test out the waters, see how we like cruising & if everything I read is correct we will definately want to go again, My prob is, if we are in a nicer room on our 3 night, I feel we will be spoiled & forced to spend the $$ on a longer cruise so we wont be dissapointed! Unless, at the time we don't even have the $ to spend extra & then end up in a cat 11 no upgrade & be miserable.... I AM SOO GRATEFUL FOR MY UPGRADE, if there are any fairies reading this please don't take it away!! :teeth: Just letting you know my dilemma & share in my mixed joy & uncertainty!!

Thanks for listening, I love how I have someone to vent to about this stuff.... my BF looks at me like I have 2 heads! :D

Princess49 -
I totally understand your mixed emotions about the upgrade!
Last year we went to WDW and had originally booked CBR. Several months later a discount code became available and we were able to book a room at WL for less than we had booked for CBR! We are now planning a return visit in August 2005 (5 days land, 4 day cruise) and I am wondering if I might be a little dissappointed if I can not get another great rate for a deluxe and have to go with a moderate resort instead. I guess it's better to look at is this way: You're not in the rooms that much and anywhere Disney has that "magical" feeling to it so you'll have fun no matter which resort/cabin you stay in. (that's what I keep telling myself anyway!;) )

You're right cepmom, but I can't imagine staying anywhere else in WDW than the BWI & I know I would be dissapointed, we even considered the Grand Floridian which everyone loves but I cant imagine not being able to hang out at the pool while my BF watches football in the ESPN club, or being a boat ride to both epcot & mgm...
the perfect example is that a year ago we went down to WDW for 2 weeks, it was amazing- but now we go for 10 days a "normal persons vacation "(so says my BF:D) I feel like its not long enough!!! I am DEFINATELY spoiled, lets hope next year I'll have enough $$ to stay in the same room I was upgraded to!!! :D (good luck on the codes again!!)

Yes your assumption is correct. Only those that have booked with DCL can verify their reservations on-line. IF you have booked with a TA you would have to go directly through them.

Princess49 -- I think that is exactly why DCL gives these upgrades! They are hoping that you will never again be able to make due with a lower grade of cabin!:p

Happyrebster---
you are SOOO right! They suck us in.. and we actually PRAY that we'll get these upgrades... a little bit of Disney magic is right- we get a great room & spend double next year!!! :wizard: I think they have us brainwashed!! :teeth: Ahh, but would going to Disney really be the same if you didn't go broke everytime? My boyfriend & I have been together 6 years & we have been to WDW 4 times & the last time I asked when we were going back he asked... now this is scary.. "Amy, do you realize that we have spent close to $20,000 on Disney vacations?" :faint:WHOA twenty THOUSAND??? yikes & we are by NO means rich-- mabye if we went to WDW less we would be.. hahaha well, I consider it $20,000 well spent!! & I think he feels the same, until he starts to think what he could have done with that money...oops!:bitelip:

We decided to splurge on our 3/27 cruise and booked a category 3 room. Now I don't think I could ever go back to a category 4! We were so spoiled by the concierge service and the amount of space in the rooms. Two bathrooms made getting ready for dinner so much easier! I wouldn't be surprised if Disney gives upgrades just for this reason!
