Best way for boy to carry iPhone around?

My own particular kid, who is merely 12, would not be allowed a $600 phone if he kept it in his pocket. He IS allowed a old wifi faux phone, that he keeps in his pocket, and loses constantly. Until he works out that issue, he doesn't get to keep $600 in his pocket. (He had a nice $100 coat from REI that he threw on the ground all the time...he doesn't have such a coat now because of how he treated that coat and the money it cost and would cost to replace. Rotten to be the middle-class kid of a mom who grew up on food stamps!)

So it would be a running belt or a belt loop case (which my kid would think is cool, but again he's 12 not quite a teen), or even his satchel, in which he carries kindle, book, and tablet. (And he never loses that, so until the phone stops getting lost, nope!)

(Not that he wants an iPhone. He's an android kid like his dad)

I don't even carry a $600 phone. We have chosen the least expensive plan we could find, and it doesn't pay for phones or upgrades, so phones are straight out of pocket.

We buy refurbished phones on Groupon that will not break the bank if they are lost or stolen. My daughter just moved "up" to an iphone 5s, at her own expense after dropping her iphone 5.

Totally agree with this. However, I have to disagree with anyone who just sticks their phone into their back pocket at Disney World (or anywhere else for that matter). Phones aren't cheap and if it gets lost or broken because of the pocket and/or breaking, that's an extra added expense I wouldn't want and having anyone without a phone for the remainder of the vacation? Not an easy thought either.

My 10 year old lives in basketball shorts, none of which have zippers or buttons over the pocket. He only got nervous about the phone on one ride, rock n rollercoaster and i kept it in my bag. Maybe have the boys share 1 backpack between them and take turns carrying it. They can put their phones in there for whatever ride and hope between all of them they can keep track of the one bag.

My 14yo son is small for his age and until recently his pockets were too small to hold his phone - he's been using a string backpack for years. Phone, umbrella, snack, water all go in there. Phone fits in his pockets now, but he still usually prefers the comfort and security of the backpack.

Our boys are ages 17, 16 and 9 - string backpacks at Disney for years. Many reasons. First, they carry their own stuff (including water, poncho and sweatshirt if it's that time of year.) Also, losing keys, wallets and phones has an impact not just on the person losing the item, but on our entire family. I know this from experience. So as long as anyone is going to be asking me for help in replacing these things, I'm going to tell them to use a string bag and secure their stuff. As for bag sharing, our oldest wouldn't trust his brothers with keeping track of a shared bag. Not at Disney. Not on a hike. Probably not even in the house.

I hold mine in my hands (in its wallet/book-type case) at all times while at Disney. It cannot be stolen, sat on, otherwise crushed, dropped in a toilet, etc. On rides, I zip it up in my bag. But I am not traveling with small children where I would need my hands free, I use my phone constantly for messages/pictures, and I am not bothered at all by carrying it. YMMV.

My son actually wears a waist pack, which used to be known as "fanny" packs to carry all of his stuff. On certain rides, he's been known to place his phone in his sock, his pocket, or my special carrying place.

Myself, DD 13 ,and DH all carry our phones in our pockets most of the time. Occasionally DD or I will use a cross body bag. No buttons, just regular pants pockets and have never had a problem. DD has had an iphone the last 2 trips and kept up with it herself just fine.

Definitely the best choice for teen boys.

The only thing less stylish than cargo pants right now for men/teenage boys are fanny packs. If they want to bring their phones and don't have pockets a drawstring bag is probably the easiest, cheapest and most stylish way. They can fold the bag up and put it in their pockets to avoid the bag line then just put their phone or whatever else they buy or need to carry throughout the day (park maps, etc).

Wal Mart has them for about $9 each but I seem to get them free at just about every expo, golf tournament, race etc I go to.

Yeah I'd imagine they have bigger size phones than an iPhone 4s The pockets are just right on size 8, but that's the advantage of such small phones.

I would ask if they actually want something to hold their phones, but if they did, I would look at running belts (kind of a flat fanny pack that can be worn over or under clothes) or waterproof phone lanyards.

My daughter uses one of the waterproof phone case lanyards at the parks. Never have to worry about losing it and don't even need to take it out of the lanyard to use the phone or take pictures.

Are these sold in Disney or do you get them prior? I can't seem to picture it but sounds like it might be a good option for adults too!

Or my 36 year old son, it's the only kind of shorts he owns because he tends to buy all his clothes at Old Navy. To the person that said they weren't stylish yet suggested they put a string backpack in their pockets until after security, what pockets other than cargo are big enough to put a string backpack into?

I always wear cargo shorts and if my teenage daughter wanted me to hold her I-phone while on a ride I put it in the button down side pocket of my cargo shorts.
My own much cheaper and not as cool android Samsung phone was fine in the not buttoned down pocket of my shorts.

On a side issue re Fanny packs (called Bum Bags in England though), they are apparently back in fashion but only if they have Hollister or Armani written on them!!

Man, for anyone reading this thread who likes and uses fanny backs, please don't get discouraged! You're actually on trend! Fanny packs have gotten a lot more popular in the past couple of years, particularly among teens and 20-something-year-olds, and especially at music festivals. There are now a lot more fanny pack options, ranging from iridescent sequins to designer black leather - they don't all look like the nylon ones you know and don't love from the '80s.

But my guess is that unless your teenage son is a devoted fashionista, he will probably laugh at the suggestion of a fanny pack.
