I have 4 teenagers. We will be staying 5 days. I have seen some of the menu's on another web site and it seems that many of the meals at counter service places are about $10. We plan on eating at mostly counter service. Where can I get the best value as far as portion size and price?

Red Rocketts has huge portions that can be split. The turkey legs can feed at least two people. We also like RBT.

Is it Red Rocketts that has the huge portions of pasta? They were very good, we thought-the chicken fusilla and the tomato basil-and you could split each, and they are about $8. I second the turkey legs-enough for two people and they are $6.

I'm not a fast food fan, but McDonalds was good for breakfast on the way to the park.

We love El Pollo Loco-grilled chicken Mexican food. Much better than your average fast food and there is one pretty close to the park (though not walking distance).

The tostada at the Mexican place by Thunder Mountain is very good and huge and a great deal at $10. It feeds two easy.

The soup in the bread bowl is also a good deal.

Skip the italian place at DTD (don't know about the TS but we did the CS) next to the pretzel place I believe. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!!

I also have one strange favorite I love the "bar/restaurant" that is in the center of the DTD walkway. They have a mostly appetizer style menu but we found it excellent and good for the price. Typically a group of 3-4 of us gets their yummy Fries, Pizza and hummus platter and have plenty of food for all. It is also a great place to people watch and great to get a late bite to eat too.

Wine Country Tratoria in DCA is a sitdown but has great prices and really good food. Usually taking walk ups too. My sandwhich is about $9 with bread and small side.

That is so cool! We are going to be vending part of the night at the Bat's Day hotel, but I hope to get over to the park that day or at least to DTD for some dinner, hopefully we will run into each other!

Ditto on the Pizza Port - Chicken Fusilli can feed two teens, also ordering a whole pizza is a pretty good deal for a family meal (much cheaper than by the slice).

I also like the Pizza Port. Portions can easily be shared between 2 people and the food is pretty good. Zocalo's mexican food is really good too and those are big portions as well. My DH and I usually share a Mexican Chicken Caesar Salad - it's super yummy!!

I was going to recommend Red Rockett's, too.

Another thing you can do if they're not REAL hungry is get kids' meals. They really don't care how old you are, and the kids' meals are much cheaper.

We didn't find much we could share all that much actually. But we did find the portions big enough that we could eat a danish on the way out of the hotel or a banana for breakfast and only have lunch and dinner instead of 3 squares and we saved about 33% that way.

We thought the salads at Red Rockets to be a nice refreshing bargain on a hot day. The Pasta wasn't in our experience big enough to share and quite frankly wasn't all that good. Perhaps I hit em bad or perhaps it was the heat. But their salads were great!! The Pizza was pretty good too. It wasn't on the menu board but you can get a half chicken at Rancho Del Zocolo that will feed two easily. It's only a couple bux more than the 1/4.

Another way to save money. Ice water from the tap is free. With a family of 5, that's over $10 in drinks saved per meal. And with soft drinks with caffeine, more whizzes out than goes in anyway. So water is definitely the way to go. How you get it is different at each place. At Red Rockets, it is dispensed with a lever at the soda machine. At Rancho Del Zocolo, it's outside by the Ortega sauce but you can fill up your cup with ice inside. But the employees were always friendly and told us how to dispense it or would take care of it behind the counter. Nothing was said. No snotty attitude given.

I love the Stage Door Cafe in Frontierland. They have chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, fish tenders and french fries. Also the Hungry Bear in Critter Country has tasty chicken salads and hamburgers and chicken sandwiches.

Enjoy!
