I have a Dyson Animal. I paid a fortune for it and I'm really not that thrilled with it. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I vacuum daily. The vacuum does an excellent job picking up the fur but the long hair from my Golden gets wrapped around the beater bar. I need to cut the fur off the the beater bar every couple of weeks. I've read that this is a common problem with the Dyson but I'm getting pretty tired of it. I didn't buy a bagless vacuum only to have to clean the beater bar of fur and dirt every few weeks. If you don't clean the bar it makes a horrible vibrating sound.

From the discussions I've read on this issue it seems to happen with long haired dogs like goldens. Yes we brush him and in a few weeks we clip him down but I let his fur grow out in the winter.

Am I the only unhappy dyson owner. If it weren't for this issue, it is a wonderful vacuum.

My sister has a golden and she loves her Oreck.

I can't comment on the long fur...
But, I will say that I have a Meile, and, if you don't want dust then THIS is the one and only....

It's not bagless. (I am not a bagless fan, because of the dust issues)
It is expensive.
But, it truly is almost emissions free.
The sealed bag system works so well, that the filters have NO visible dust when you change them out.

It is not absolutely perfect...
Mine is going in for a repair and free First Year Tune-up.
So I dragged out my old vac to use while my Meile is gone.
Can't believe the difference!!!!
It was a decent vac, but compared to the Meile, it is a complete dustbag!!! (cough, gag, choke....)

About the Dysons, sitting next to each other on the showroom floor, the Meile makes the Dyson look like a plastic toy!

For anybody who has issues/allergies/problems with dust and air quality... Check out the Meile...

This is the one that was mentioned on several reviews. I had never heard of it until this morning. Who sells the Meile. I think I paid over $500 for the Dyson several years ago. I don't care if it is bagless but I do have problems with dust so Dh or DS usually empties the Dyson for me.

What model of Meile do you have if you don't mind me asking. Is it a canister or upright? I just looked on Amazon and they sell MANY different models

I bought a Hoover Elite wind tunnel... I love it I have 3 cats and it turned my rugs into the way they were when I bought them....it is great...

My experience has been that any vacuum with a beater bar is going to get hair wound around it. I just look at it as regular maintenance. same as changing the bag.

We just got a Meile Neptune and it is fantastic! The more I looked at Dysons the more ridiculous and gimmicky they looked compared to a real quality machine.

We have a Rainbow and love it. It is a water canister so NO dust at all. We have a dog and 4 indoor cats and vacuum at least once a week. We purchased it refurbished over 5 years ago for $500 and it is still going strong We just had it serviced for the first time because I just thought it would be a good idea. They are pricey for sure but last for many, many years and do a great job.

I have a Dyson too & love mine...although it's 6 years old & has some broken parts we are in need of a new one. We have the red one (2nd) and really wish we purchased the animal one-but since I had no experience with Dyson I was hesitant to spend more...this one does a good job but I'm betting the purple would be better. How long has yours lasted? And the Miele? I just checked a website for it & never heard of this brand...did you order on-line or at a department store? Thanks.

I have two dogs and I love my Oreck! Never thought I would utter those words about a vacuum cleaner.:rotfl:

We had an old Rainbow and finally upgraded to the new model last year. With our trade in and not buying the rug attachment (all hardwoods) we only paid $1,000 for a brand new one . SO worth it. I was nervous about the new electronic system versus the old mechanical system but it is wonderful, even better suction than the old models. Of course then we went and bought a wool rug for the dining room. The darn thing sheds worse than a dog. I need to break down and buy the rug attachment :headache:.

If you don't like cutting the dog hair out of a beater bar you will really hate emptying the water reservoir on a Rainbow. It is really gross seeing all your household dirt mixed with the water. It is the best vacuum other than a whole house vacuum though. My family are all vacuum snobs so they've tried them all. Unless you can afford to install a whole house vacuum a Rainbow is the best vacuum for the long term investment. My old Rainbow was older then me (1971).

We have cats and we have a Kenmore that is #1 according to consumer reports. It does use a bag, but it is fabulous and I wouldn't trade it at all.
