Hello Experts!
I am considering buying a resale through the TSS. We always vacation in October. I am confusing myself. What is the best Use Year month to be able to book an October stay at 11 months?
Thanks for putting up with my stupid question.

WALTSAGOD, Of course I don't know that for certain.
But for the past 8 years we have vacationed in October and we like it then. We love the Food & Wine Festival and that is when we choose to come to Disney. We have also vacationed in Hawaii and in Aruba and always in October. Some year I might like to see the Christmas decorations - who knows? But if I have a choice of Use Years, which I do with a resale, I wanted to know what was the best for the time of year we usually vacation.

You might want to start with when you would NEVER go, then work backwards from there!:goodvibes :goodvibes

My rule of thumb is a UY just prior to your favorite vacation period. We vacation Nov-April and will never vacation during the summer months. With our Oct UY we get new points every Oct 1st and we have until May 31st, to bank our points. If a April vacation gets canceled for some reason, we still have plenty of time to bank.

Use Year has nothing to do with making a reservation. You will be able to reserve a trip in October in November the year prior - 11 months from your arrival date.

In the event that you would need to cancel an October trip, an October Use Year would give you the greatest flexibility to bank or reuse the points regained from the cancellation. (June, August or September would also work for you.)

You would not want a December Use Year if you will primarily travel in October.

Thank you for the replies.
I thought that you had to have your current years points when you made your reservation. Based on Doc's answer I now think that is not the case.
So June, August, September and October would be good for my anticipated needs.
Actually that is what I thought, but then I was getting confused.
Thanks Again

You need to have the points available for the time that they are used, not for when the reservation is made. Don't forget you can bank and borrow your points into the year that they will be used also.

We went for an Aug UY since we normally travel in the Fall.

In 12 years of belonging to DVC, membership year has had zero relevancy...it has never been an issue of any kind. And, without going into unneccessary details, I don't foresee a situation where it ever will:cool2:

I also have a question along this line for you UY Experts...

I love WDW in January and February. We have 2 DD's (ages 3 and 5) who will be starting school soon and so I foresee summer travel as the most likely scenario. DH doesn't want to go every year so if I take the DD's every year, we'll be going in November while DH is hunting. Basically, when trying to decide on a UY, I have these 3 things to consider:

1) Family trips will most likely be in early June or August
2) Mom and Daughters trips will fall in November (if the kids can handle missing school)
3) If the kids aren't going, Jan or Feb is our preferred travel time.

This makes choosing a UY difficult. Is there any UY I should definitely NOT choose?:confused3 FWIW, we should have no problem booking well in advance and would only cancel in case of a significant emergency.

June UY would be your best choice. The banking deadline is Jan 31st., so since you have to cancel 31 days before arrival in order to bank, this UY will cover all months June thru February.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Are there any of the 100 point AKV (Kidani) contracts with a June UY still available? I thought I read somewhere that June is sold out.:(
