We have 3 $100 pre-paid Visa cards.

Would it be better to use them at the gate to pay for our tickets or should we use them in the park for meals and such. I've never used them, are they user friendly?

Or we could use them for gas on during the drive as well.

Your Visa gift cards work just like a credit card except you don't sign a reciept. In this resect they are like a gift card that you can use anywhere. As long as they take visa. In DLR this won't be a problem. When you get to the end of the card though say, $95 and you have a bill for $10.80 you can use the remainder of the card and then pay the rest however you would like. Some cashiers can handle a split tranaction as this is called. Some are confused by it.

Depening on the terms of your card they will have some sort of inactivity fee. Usually not a lot, but it worth it to you to spend the whole card before using cash, just to avoid loosing the value on the card.

If you haven't thought of this you may want to buy you tickets before you leave, it's one less line you have to deal with when you are there.

We too have some prepaid cards and I'm planning to use them on the tickets to get it out of the way. We tried using one for a character meal last time and the waitress was rather grumpy about it and said she tired it twice but it wouldn't work...hmmmm. It worked just fine at the Disney store 30 minutes later! I've heard some restaurants process cards differently (due to allowance for tips, etc) so they don't always work well at restaurants.

We have had prepaid cards a few times and love them except for restaurants. By defult a restaurant adds a 15-20% "hold" on the card in case you decide to tip with that card. This is not something the server can stop/fix. So if you have a bill of $50 and a balance of $55 you won't be able to use the card for your bill -- it will be rejected. This can create a bit of trouble trying to finish off the card. Also, you are stuck carrying around a balance sheet or the receipts so you can remember how much you have left on the card. If you have another way to pay for things in the park (your own credit card for example); I would use up the prepaid visas so I didn't have to deal with them. Just my opinion from experience.

Ok, tickets it is. Thanks guys. I never thought about the restaurants automatically holding an additional %.

The other thing is if you have a purchase for over your amount on the prepaid card it may be declined. It is best to keep track of the dollar amount on the cards so the cashier can run it for the amount on the card.

I use a prepaid card called the Rush Card for all my trips. I have two cards in my wallet for two separate accounts, a black one for regular spending and a pink one for Disneyland/Vacay. I love having the Rush Cards because I can't overdraw since it's prepaid and if I lose the card or misplace it I can quickly call them and have the funds transfered over to the other card without worrying about the lost card. I use my Rush Cards for everything and never have a problem with them. They're the best prepaid cards around...Maybe it's just because I hate dealing with banks since they always find a way to make me mad and charge me for some stupid chunk lol
