We're doing the dining plan for the first time this year and we're looking for a good TS lunch restaurant for Hollywood Studios. We've eaten at Sci-Fi before and I enjoyed it, but DH said he would rather skip it this time. I was looking at Mama Melrose's, but wasn't sold on it. Any input is appreciated!

On dining plan I would pick 50s Prime Time Cafe. Brown Derby has better food but it's a terrible value on the dining plans.

Plus, the theming and interaction with CMs at 50s Prime Time Cafe is loads of family fun. I still have my dunce cap from having my elbows on the table in 2006!

Brown Derby is the best, but it's 2TS credits. It may be more worth it if you get the Fantasmic Package, since then you get 3 courses rather than 2. If BD is too much, I'd say 50's Prime Time.

IF you had to rank them on a scale of 10

Brown Derby 8

Mama Melrose/SciFi/Primetime 5

Hollywood and Vine 3

hope that clears it up:banana:

While it's been ages since I've dined there (and it was great when I did)- Brown Derby is supposedly back to being a true signature quality restaurant.

If you're only looking to burn 1 credit or just lower costs oop, 50s Primetime is my next fave. We did have a nice dinner at Mama Melrose back in 2010, but we only tried it b/c of the F! pkg. Service was slow and the wait was long, but the food was good and it was nice that it included an appetize on top of the preferred seating. Still, I would have preferred 50s.

I would choose the 50s Primetime Cafe - good food, large portions, and a fun atmosphere. Plus they have some very yummy desserts!

A friend of mine went to mama melrose last year and they said they had wonderful food. They were shocked that they liked it so much. I hope that helps... It's hard to decide, I know.

We like both 50s and Brown Derby. For lunch, we prefer 50s and for the Fantasmic Package, we choose BD for dinner.
If you are worried about the antics at 50s, you can always indicate that you aren't interested.

I've only eaten at 50's Prime Time Cafe and we all liked the food there. The chicken was 4 pieces and we shared the plate between 2 adults. We did indicate to the waiter that we were sharing and he brought us another plate. I'd eat there again as everything we had was really good and it was all hot and fresh. We were in and out in about an hour for lunch.

We like Mama Melrose. We don't get any of their big entrees, my family shares several of their flatbread pizzas for dinner, and it's pretty good. Any of their other food, we know we would end up being snobs about cuz we are NYer's and know good italian. But the flatbreads are pretty yummy, and frankly we didn't care for any of the other restaurants in HS. :confused3

H&V : 4x No problem with it as others have had... did H&V F! Plan last time
HBD: did not like it May 2010... but will give another chance in May2012, did F! Dining in 2010
50's Prime Time: BEST Meal of the day May 2010.. would def go back
Sci Fi: Trying May 2012
MM's: Trying May 2012 F! Dining....

I LOVE THE Fantasmic Dining package...

Have a Magical visit !

I LOVED 50's Prime Time Cafe (try the sampler meal and the Boston cream parfait... omg, so good!). But DH loved Mama Melrose. Mama Melrose was great, but that fried chicken and meat loaf from 50's is so good!

We like 50's PT.

While I'd describe the food quality as maybe comparable to a somewhat above average Cracker Barrel, it's just such a fun place.

It's especially fun if you're with someone who grew up in the 50's. Last time we went with my MIL. Next time, we're planning to take my parents.

Just be sure that everyone knows about the servers' antics. Our server played around with us a bit while taking our orders and, I think, offended my MIL (until I explained to her that it was just an act that is part of the restaurant's vibe).

Oh, and be adventurous and order the PB&J milkshake. You won't regret it.
