Best TS restaurant for the money?

If you're going to, or have a shirt from, Universal....wear it to the dinner.

Hilarity usually ensues. Not ALWAYS (because much of the "script" is approved improv stuff), but usually.

Also...tell 'em you're thirsty and want a BIG drink. :)

Intruiging  I'll try and do both! Thank you :worship:

OP we like Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness lodge. We get the BBQ Skillet and it is a lot of food for the money. In Dec. the adult skillet was $20 and it's all you can eat. Not sure what the child's portion cost.

We also like the value at 50's Prime Time in HS. The portions are large and the food is good. The atmosphere is fun, too.

Have a great trip!

At MK...
When at MK, I usually go the a monorail resort beacuse I like the food better than @ MK.

WCC - Parent can order never ending skillet and kids can order a speciffic item rather than skillet. And the staff entertain.

OHanna - It's set price but you eat a good amount. Meat come to you on skeers and get as much as you want.

At DHS...
Mama Melrose - I usually do the Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose. This includes appetizer, entree, desert & drink. Also you get a pass for reserved seating at Fastastmic.

50's Primetime - They had good portions and you can share.

At Epcot...
Coral Reef - At lunch, order chicken Caesar Salad. Share dessert.

Cape May at Beach Club - You can walk from Epcot. It a buffet w/ some seafood and lots of desserts. There's plenty for kids to eat.

At AK...
I usally don't eat TS there. I usually leave the park early and eat elsewhere.

If you are doing WDW vacation package, you get $15 Voucher at Planet Hollywood. The food is standard. And you save $15 on your meal.

I hope this helps.

We will only be on the QSDP so I am just looking for something to give us a break from the standard CS offerings. The only TS experiences I have are Tusker for breakfast and Akershus for lunch.I'm willing to try new things but my kids will be looking for the basics other than a burger or chicken nuggets.

You are right though, I am looking for something other than "what looks best to me" :) I want to know what others thing is the best for the money.

Frankly IMHO there are no really good/decent breakfast buffets. Honestly how many things can you do with eggs, bacon and toast? LOL

With Tusker you did the right restaurant but the wrong meal. My strong advice would be to try Tusker for a lunch or dinner buffet. Fantasic food, some prepared a bit differently but not so different that it's weird.....it's just a great place to eat with a ton of ambiance to boot!

If your goal is better variety for kids meals, I think your best choice is a buffet since they can pick anything. I've not heard great things about TS kids meals also.
they definitely need more variety than nuggets and burgers at 75% of their places. Or, at least include the GOOD chicken nuggets instead of the flat lifeless ones.

I'm actually considering NOT doing the QSDP because of it so my kids can just split an adult meal instead occasionally.

I. From what I have read and my very limited experence the food tends to be better in the resort restaurants then in the parks.

totally agree. I think the Plaza in the MK is probably the only park restaurant where I think it's worth the money.

Whispering canyon is a fun restaurant, the food is ok but the main draw is the servers.

If you don't mind a boat ride from MK. Trails end buffet is a little known gem that serves good food.

Okay, this is most likely not the answer you are looking for, but I say go with the one that looks the best to you. If you are on the dining plan, don't worry if you are ordering the most expensive, exotic food that you won't eat....

I agree with PP, the best restaurant for the money is the one that appeals to and satisfies YOUR family.
Take a look at the menus, with prices, here on the DIS or at allears.net to get an idea of menu items and prices.
No one else can really answer your question, it depends on what you enjoy.

Sometimes asking for opinions may make it worse for you.

With out knowing the person you asking you can't give any value to that opinion.

There have been informal polls done on these boards asking for the top and bottom 5 restaurants and sometimes the same places appear on both lists. Even places like Le Celler (sp?) where people would trade their first born to get a 6:00 PM ADR.

So like a lot of things here, only you know your family and what they like.

So go to allears load up the menus page and start digging.

Thats what I did for a last breakfast with a kid(well adult, 20 years old) that only eats bagels and toaster strudel for breakfast, even if he gets up at 1:00 PM.

After reading this entire thread I have to agree with these posters - opinions vary and only you know your family's tastes....I sincerely think that checking out the online menus would be your best bet.

Just FYI: The surcharge was included in my breakdown.

Looks like "normal" pricing, near as I can tell, is about $5 less (around $34, reportedly, in late July '10).

I think all your suggestions are pretty good ones. I don't think they'd work for us, though. Both my wife and I are not really "sandwich-y/burger" kinda people, especially for dinner (we also don't tend to do big meals at lunch, so stick to CS) so we've never done the Plaza. Sci Fi and Mama's are great suggestions...though we tend to do dinner there, since we keep lunch a bit "lighter".

Question for you: How does it work out for you trying to seat 7 at Sci Fi? We're going to be traveling at the same time as a group of our friends, and we're contemplating making a ressie for 11 there. I've done that before at 50's Prime Time (we just sat at adjoining tables), but never at Sci Fi. Given the size of the group, and the configuration of the cars....do you think it's worth it? I don't want to be shouting dinner conversation across the room, and if we can't socialize....I'm not sure there's much point in making the ressie there.

I haven't been to all of the places on my list. They were just places where we could have a TS meal for 7 and stay under $150. But other than the Plaza, I don't think any of them are limited to sandwiches and burgers.

We have been to Sci-Fi, but we were a family of 6 at the time, so we all fit in one car.

AGree to disagree then. Without this thread I would have had no direction at all. I've even made a few choices based on the content of this thread.

It really surprises me that some are unwilling to just give their recommendations. Its not like I am going to come back in this thread after my trip and berate somebody for their recommendation if I don't like it. Just tell me what you like.:thumbsup2

I'm with you.
One could say that opinions vary on just about everything that is posted on the DIS, so what is the point of asking for advice on anything?

But I enjoy hearing what other people think, even if they don't all agree. I like hearing what people like or dislike and why and discussing all of the different opinions. That's kind of the whole point of the DIS.

Of course, the final decision on which restaurants you eat at, which park to visit on which day, which attractions to see, which hotel to stay at, etc., etc., etc, is up to the person planning the trip. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't ask for other people's opinions.

Just a Heads Up....Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness is doing a
"TEST" and changed their menu from buffet to "ala carte"..Off the menu..
Check before go if you were planning the buffet.:flower3:

So where the heck do you eat? ;)

The Grand Floridian Cafe is good food for more reasonable prices than some similar resturants in the MK area. (I think of it as similar in value as Kona Cafe) It is also an easy monorail ride from the park so it makes for a good break in the day if you want to jump over there during a visit to MK.

Agreed.

I did give my recommendation ~ I'm sorry it wasn't the answer you were looking for.

I hope you enjoy your trip. :)

Our family loves Kona for breakfast. We get the big kahuna and a tonga toast and it feeds 2 adults and 2 kids. That big kahuna is HUGE and the tonga toast is pretty hearty too~! Most mornings we could probably just order the big kahuna by itself... but it seems like a crime not to get the tonga toast!

Chefs de France

We went there on our last trip and the food was fantastic. It's one of my favorite restaurants.

Remy stops by at each of the tables, which is a cool little treat. The kids menu seems to have a variety of food choices that aren't the standard burger, chicken fingers, etc.
