I had a question on the resorts thread about best place to stay before a cruise and they recommended the Hyatt MCO for our needs, but referred me here because I had heard bad things about the Hyatt process.

Our group - 10 total. 8 adults (1 can’t do stairs or walk far, 1 is in a wheelchair but can stand/use walker but couldn’t climb in a regular bus), 2 kids (9 and 18 mos at time of sailing). Only 2 people with silver status. Everyone else is first time.

We were thinking DCL transport because we need an accessible option, we will need baggage assistance, and we wanted to get as early a boarding time as possible because we have a large group, wheelchair, and stroller and wanted to avoid the most crowded time and be able to find space to sit. We also wanted to board in time to make the sit down lunch for those reasons. We don’t want to deal with the wheelchair at a first day buffet.

Staying at the Hyatt would be easier, and cheaper, than a Disney hotel on arrival day. However, we had heard horror stories about the DCL transport from the airport being a mess and long lines and not a reliable way to get there early, whereas DCL hotel buses tend to arrive first.

Is the Hyatt transfer situation bad enough that we should avoid and endure the extra hassle of doing a Disney hotel or would the Hyatt still be best despite our group size, lack of cruise status, and extra needs?

DCL Transfers pickup directly from the Hyatt lobby. I believe they start fairly early, with automatic PAT and boarding group, though how early you arrive at the port terminal may depend on how many total guests/buses from the Hyatt that morning.

This is different from DCL transfers from the MCO pickup location.

Special needs would be addressed at either location. They usually send a bus with a chair/scooter lift if that is noted when the transfers are made. When we went out of Miami it was the first bus to leave the hotel.

We used DCL transport from Riviera Resort and had a HA bus due to a passenger in a wheelchair. Their party of 14 was loaded first and then the rest of us got to board.
