Who has the best Tonga Toast and why?I have only had the one at Kona but I know other places have it and was wondering who has the best?I saw that the Rainforest Cafe at AK has it but I have never tried it anywhere but Kona.Any help would be great. Thanks

Rainforest's is not the same, from what I understand.

The Kona Tonga Toast is available only at Kona and Captain Cook's at the Poly. I haven't tried the Capt. Cook's version, but I hear it's a little "less" than the Kona - I can't remember the reason - something about how they have to cook it at the CS place vs. Kona.

Kona Cafe's Tonga Toast is the original. If you want the real thing at its best, you should go there to enjoy it.

Kona.....tonga toast....drooool.

(Where is that photo of Homer?)

Boatrights has a fine version of Tonga toast on the menu when they had breakfast. I miss it muchly.

rainforest cafe's is different

Kona is the best and I believe the only one that serves with the strawberries

I think the strawberry sauce is what makes tonga toast so good and that is only available at Kona.

I have been hearing so much about "Tonga Toast" I have to know what all they hype is about so I just made a reservation for Kona. With all the talk of this place I could not believe I was able to get a reservation for the exact time that I requested for 4Adults & 2Kids!

Had it from both Kona & Captain Cookes, they taste the same to me from both places!! Very yummy. Only difference is the strawberry sauce is at Kona.

I have had the Tonga Toast at both Kona and RFC. The stuff at RFC is absolutely disgusting. It is very heavy, soggy and not at all nice (in my opinion) - the banana inside was mushy and it was as if the bread/cake on the outside had been soaked in the egg mixture too long. It was almost like a very soggy bread pudding.

DD, myself and DH all ordered it and none of us ate more than a couple of mouthfuls. DD2 liked it, though, and kindly gave me her waffle in exchange (which was delicious :thumbsup2)

The Kona Cafe TT is light, fluffy and crispy with whole banana inside and very nice (extremely filling and very sweet).

In my opinion, the RFC and Kona cafe versions are two very different things and the idea I had in my head of Tonga toast, having read about it on the boards, was definitely more in line with the version at Kona.

Room service at the Polynesian serves wonderful Tonga Toast as well. We've found the version from Captain Cook's not quite as good as that from room service and Kona Cafe. It's been a little dry and tough. Still very good though.

BTW, Tangaroa Terrace served Tonga Toast way back in the 80s. As I recall, it wasn't available at Coral Seas then. Wasn't called Tonga Toast at first either.

I'm so sad to hear this. We will eating breakfast at RFC on 9/12 and I was so looking forward to Tonga Toast.:scared1:

Is the Tonga Toast so much better at the Kona Cafe that we should pay out of pocket to get it there as opposed to getting it free at the Counter Service place? :confused3 I am out of table service credits, but I have some CS left.

We also have a breakfast at RFC scheduled too. We had never eaten at RFC, but being Safari Club members, we have a bunch of coupons to use, so we figured we'd try the toast there. We've been to Kona tons of times for lunch and dinner, but not for breakfast - it's one of our fav restaurants.

Hmmm...I just sent this link to hubby at work, as he is the one who wants the toast as I can't eat it. I'll let him decide what he wants to do about it.

Glad I found this thread, Tiger :)

I was wondering the same thing. We are on the QSDP but I am willing to pay OOP for Kona Cafe tonga toast if it is better than Captain Cooks. I have been wanting to try tonga toast for the last couple of visits and we never make it over to the poly for breakfast. So, should I make a ressie for Kona or just head over to Captain Cooks?

Thought I would post pictures of the RFC toast compared to the Kona Cafe toast so you can see the difference.

This the Tonga Toast from RFC

Thanks for these photos! I showed hubby this thread, and he said he still wants to try RFC as point of comparison. I will now show him these photos, and perhaps his mind might change?

Thanks a bunch, Tiger :)

In your case I would certainly get your Tonga Toast fix at Captain Cooks. It is very good there. We typically buy it from CC for my DH and DD at least once per trip in addition to our Kona Cafe visits.

Thanks for the pictures, I think we will still keep our RFC plans and I'll give it a try. Both looks so good!
