New to DIS. I see from existing posts that the princess dresses periodically go on sale and significantly get marked down when they are discontinued. Is there any pattern to when that may happen?

We are making a 1st time trip to WDW in February, and my DD4 wants to have all of the dresses before we go. So, I am looking to stock up between now and Christmas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I used to be a Disney Store CM, in stores they start to come down about a week before Halloween, the week of Halloween they are usually 30-40% off (with some exceptions). I believe right after also. Online, I see them go periodically, but around/after Halloween usually a given. Keep an eye online.

Between Halloween and Thanksgiving as the costumes are clearanced out. The downfall however is that the size/ style may not be available.

The stores get varying amounts of the different princess dresses, based upon expected sales/popularity. And some are carried year round, and some are in only for Halloween.

The ones usually carried year round might include Cinderella, Belle, Rapunzel, Ariel for example. Some that come in only for Halloween, include Alice, Mulan, Pocahontas, Jasmine, and probably Tiana. Snow White and Aurora can go either way, and who knows what will happen with Merida.

The ones not carried all year, are the most likely to go on sale after Halloween, HOWEVER, they are also the most likely to sell out before Halloween, because the stores don't get that many of them. (Esp. Pocahontas.)

There may be sales on all the costumes, or just the accessories before Halloween, of course. Who knows. Expected to be hard to find are both versions of Merida, bride Rapunzel, regular Rapunzel, Pocahontas, the Jake and Neverland Pirates costumes. Possible that Cinderella will get very popular after the release on DVD in early Oct.

Good luck!!

Thanks all. Good information all around. Amazing how much I am learning from these boards!! :)

Any other suggestions still welcome.

Also - you can purchase the same dresses sold in the parks for 1/2 the cost ~ Take a look at *this* ebay seller. She has the same dresses available at the Disney Parks her prices however are much lower, not sure how she does it but I don't mind at all.
If she doesn't have what you need contact her via Contact Member *left side of screen near the top, once she can get it *always quick for me* she'll list it, I'd suggest using the BIN option to get it quick *before anyone else.

The week before, week of and week after Halloween is the best time to get them. Most of them will be on clearance during this time!

Yes! I got most of my dresses for $14.99 before we went to Disney in 2010!

Dare I hope for such good deals?!?!?!

"dear" MIL picked up a few at Costco for me over the weekend, after I read some postings here about them, but I haven't seen them yet. I have a few of the a target dresses, but the quality if the Merida dress I got at Disney for my DD's birthday (which conveniently coincided with the films opening in theaters :) ) is SO much better. She were her dresses all the time, and the Target ones are falling apart.
