and want to purchase a flat screen TV, DVD player, and a home theater system. Before or after Christmas to get the best deals? :confused3 Our television still works, but gets pink and green every now and then, so it's only a matter of time.

Black Friday is good for electronics. You can also get great deals on T.V.'s right before the Super Bowl. Happy Shopping!

We are waiting until after Christmas unless the EXACT TV that DH has decided he can't live without goes on sale~!

Dawn

We bought our big flat screen on Black Friday 2 years, we got a great deal. We haven't really seen a great deal since then....I would get up early and get yourself one!

Unfortunately, dd7 will be dancing in a competition 8 am on black Friday, 2 hours from here. I think I found the television I want, $1,100 at Best Buy, the cheapest $850 at an online store, so I'd try to negotiate. I'm guessing they would be more eager to negotiate after Christmas?

Black Friday and right before the Super Bowl are the best times for TVs. Most other electronics are best around Black Friday as well. Get now while the gettin' is good. :) All sorts of deals on TVs, DVD players (have you considered a BluRay player instead if you are getting an HD TV?), etc.

I've heard right before the Super Bowl is a great time to buy as well. I was going to get a 42" HDTV but unfortunately car repairs took that so I'm waiting until around late Jan to get it. I hadn't planned on going out on Black Friday anyway.

We bought our television from Kmart last year on Thanksgiving Day. We were in line a little after midnight for a store that opened at 7:00 am.

Be careful when getting a deal on an HD TV. There have been an influx of 720 resolution TVs on the market. This is NOT full HD resolution. 1080 is full HD. Now this may not really matter to you but that is an important spec. to look at when shopping.

Definitely get a BluRay player instead of a DVD player. It will still play regular DVD and in fact make regular DVDs look better!

That really depends on the size of the TV screen though. Anything under 42" will do just as fine with a 720p. It's a waste of $$ to get a higher res on a smaller screen because most agree that you cannot tell the difference. If it's 42" or larger, go for the 1080p.

Okay, let's see...

An analysis of last year's Christmas shopping, released earlier this year, showed the best sale prices three weeks after Black Friday. Naturally, past performance is no indication of future results.

Last year, I bought a(n okay) flat panel tv online from Staples dot com, on Thanksgiving - no need to leave the house Friday.

Nasty, but... it's not uncommon (but still rare, thank goodness) for sports viewers to purchase a television before the Super Bowl, watch the game, and return the TV. Stores that accept these returns then usually sell the 'gently used' items at a discount

If you hae a Sams club membership, we just got the Black Friday e-mail with a few TV's that are actually available online (with in store pick up option) starting on this Wednesday evening!
