I was wondering how you all chose your wedding dates and times. I was wanting to go with September because its less expensive and less packed, but we are wanted to honeymoon in the Caribbean and don't want to take our honeymoon during hurricane season. I was also thinking end of January, what does everyone think of that?

September is an awesome time to go - you're just at the front of the hurricane season, so not too bad. My husband got stuck on a cruise with his family when we were dating because of a hurricane. He had an awesome time as the ports of call were still clear. If you go though, just remember to be flexible as I've heard of the cruise lines re-routing the ports of calls when there is a pending hurricane. I don't know much about Jan time frame in the caribean, but in FL it's pretty nice. There's a bit of rain, but it's not too bad (though my definition of bad rain has changed substantially since moving from CA to Seattle...)

September is an awesome time to go

Isnt September when the love bugs come out??? They were awful when we went in later Sept last year!!! Someone told us that Sept and May are bad times for lovebugs..

It's not like they are going to eat you. Lovebugs should not mess up vacation plans.

I agree with September, it's an awesome time to go! I am going in 14 days! :)

If not sept....then I would probably agree with Jan, or maybe even Feb.

September is really nice. The lovebugs aren't that bad and if you go int he second half of the month then you should be fine. As for the hurricanes, September is when they start to taper off. Although in the past few years we've had some hurricanes hit land in September it isn't actually a big month for them. Remember hurricane season is officially June 1-November 30 but technically they could occur at any time. As for January or February remember it's warm at Disney but not traditionally warm enough for you to do any of the water activities or such. September is still nice and warm but not crowded at all since school has just gone back in.

Thanks for all the advice, a few things I am worried about in Sept are the luv bugs--- I am living in Orlando for an internship and they were horrible in May. I did get used to them, but I have many friends who would freak out if they were around and you couldnt lay out because they would just land on your face and all over---, I am also more worried about hurricane season, not for Orlando, but for our honeymoon, i would not want to have to change it. However with January is there anything that I should be aware of, because I was ready to book September before I lived there and saw the love bugs and realized it was hurricane season haha!

March is a great time, that is when we got married and the weather was perfect. High 70's blue sky, no rain or chance of hurricanes.

We narrow ours down a couple of different ways....
1. Did not want summer...it is too hot
2. did not want spring because of the unpredictable weather.
3. did not winter months because of snow storms (we are from ohio)
4. we finally chose the fall months which ended up being november

When we finally chose November my DH had to look at the Ohio State football schedule to tell me which saturday was ok....we ended up with Thanksgiving weekend. (no ohio state games)

also the day we got married happened to be 70 degrees. Our pictures look like it was april

I chose September for several reasons...not the least of which was lower crowds. It was nice to get cheaper rates as well.

Hurricanes don't worry me since I live in an area that can (and has) been hit before. September is actually the peak of hurricane season. But Orlando is in the center of the state which means it will not get a "direct" hit and most hurricanes that would go over Orlando will have lost substantial strength by the time they get there. In addition, at most they cause problems for a day then the weather is beautiful!

As for the "love bugs" we were married in September and I remember hearing about them...but never saw them or never noticed them. I wouldn't let that be a big issue.

I have to disagree about the unpredicable weather for Spring, March is prime season in FL because of the perfect weather and least amount of rain fall. June- November is Hurricane season and the temps can change drastically, one day you could be wearing a sweater and the next day in shorts, same goes for Dec with the hot cold thing, that would be unpredicable to me. Again, just my opinion.

I agree with you but original poster did not say where her wedding would be.She asked how we chose our wedding dates.

We are going with sept, Its only a few days till we get our date confirmed

I would choose mid to late January or early February. We have been to Disney several times at this time and it's always been great. You wouldn't have to deal with all that heat and humidity. Nor, would you have to worry about the lovebugs.

Another plus is that, if you live in a cold weather state, you could celebrate your anniversary by going someplace warm. A nice break from winter.

Just my two cents. I got married in July. Everytime my DH and I try to think of someplace to go for our anniversary, it's hot and humid all over the country. If I had it to do over again, I would get married in the winter.

We originally thought we would get married in the fall. Once we found out that was the most popular and expensive time we looked at other options. Summer is too hot for us and we wanted to avoid peak holiday times and spring break. We fianlly ended up on choosing January 18 and I'm exicted!

We were there last January when we got engaged and the weather was awesome and 80 degrees. I know they say the average is 70 I think. But having to wear a light jacket at night doesn't bother me. Our guests are excited to get away from the cold and the fact it is a slow/cheap time to go to the parks and the minimums were lower for us. So January worked perfectly for us, good luck with what time you choose.

we did the week after thanksgiving

weather can be iffy...we had a few days hot & a few days cold

the crowds were super light & we got the benefit of seeing all the decorations up for xmas

GL!!

not to burst anyone's bubble but we were in Disney Feb 10th of '06 and it was 35 degrees in the morning - no joke!! it was so cold everyone was running into all the shops to buy jackets, sweatshirts - anything warm - including us! lol.... now I understand it was a fluke but just letting you know, with Florida, the weather can swing both ways.

we went in May and the love bugs were absolutely horrible!! only when we were laying by the pool though so I wouldn't let that stop you. even though we aren't getting married in Disney, if we were, I'd still pick our same wedding date - Halloween! seriously, I love October in Florida - the weather is perfect and the prices aren't bad at all....

whatever you decide, best of luck!

I know there are brides out there that are getting married in December, mine is Dec 17th at Seabreeze Point. Does anyone know how good the weather is at that time? I know Seabreeze can be a bit windy, but I would hate for it to rain, Disney doesn't really give much detail on the backup venue in case of rain so a little worried....

A December bride here. I choose my date because it is our anniversary. I am a firm believer in picking a date that means something, and not just a random day. Anyways, the weather in December can be either hot or cold. It usually isn't that rainy though.

December bride here too. December 16th, 2007. I agree with the PP. Pick a date that is meaningful to you. We are getting married exactly two years after DF proposed. It works out well for our wedding in AZ - great weather in December. Then we will be disneymooning with low crowds for the first half of the trip, followed by higher crowd levels but a magical first Christmas together in WDW.
