Best time of year for incentives?

For a number of years through 2007 they ran pretty good incentives for in the fall--approx October to January. But 2008 broke that trend when BLT and VGC began selling at extremely high prices.

Incentives got pretty attractive back in the spring of 2009, but like the prior year there was no extra incentive in the fall of '09.

The current incentive (free APs) is scheduled to end on 1/31/10. Whatever they implement starting in February should run for a few months. If that isn't to your liking, you may want to keep your eyes open for any webcasts or other special events. Those have typically yielded bonus savings.

I think that the incentives are based upon actual sales verses projections. When sales start to fall below anticipated levels, they offer the next deal. If sales are doing OK, the wait longer before the next deal.

Logically I agree with that. But there was a 2-3 year span when DVC offered very attractive "friends and family" referral offers in the fall. That's right at the start of Disney's fiscal year, so they really wouldn't have any way of benchmarking sales to expectations at that point. :confused3

But F&F was offered during the old DVC, when SSR was the only new resort and DVC was the best kept secret. Now Disney recognizes DVC as a revenue stream and during the last couple of years, have changed the way that they do business.

AKV, too. AKV began selling in early 2007 and was part of the F&F in the fall of '07.

Perhaps. It's clear they were in a reactive mode when the economy tanked.

I'm sure there are incentive programs which take several months to assemble so those will have to be considered well in advance. But lowering costs a couple extra dollars or tossing in some Developer's Points are relatively simple changes which can be implemented as sales lag.
