Best time in Summer months?

We just got back from DL and wow was it crazy busy this past weekend. I knew it would be, and we were actually able to do everything we wanted to do but lighter crowds are much better of course!

This trip it was just my husband and I, we have APs. We are planning a larger family vacay with our grown kids and their significant others & my parents in the summer.

I've heard that some weeks in June/July are better than others as far as crowds are concerned - we are looking at the last week in June or 3rd week in July - any advice which might have slighly lighter crowds?

At DLR, it's not really about looking for "lighter crowds" (although we all love those, right?). That's a WDW mindset. For DLR, it's about looking for a time when the most APs are blocked (so check that AP Blockout Calendar on the DLR website!), when nothing crazy is going to coincide with your dates (2020 Calendar of Events & School Breaks and DLR), and when the parks are going to be most prepared to deal with any crowds (so peak season is great!). You want the parks to have longer hours, more staffing, fewer/no refurbs, more entertainment, etc. When the parks are prepared for crowds and running smoothly, you really don't feel the crowds like you do when the hours are shorter, the staffing is lower, and the refurbs abound. Will you have MP? That can really help. You are right that last weekend was forecast to be super crowded -- and it was! Summer isn't usually that intense (again: check the Blockout Calendar and the convention calendar!). Either of your weeks sound fine right now -- which one works best for you and which one has better hotel rates?
