Best Thing To Happen to you on a Disney Cruise

I'm just saying, RebeccaLovesDisney, I was picked to be in the "Phone a Friend" group (or whatever we were called) in 2004 on the Magic, and helped someone win a seven day cruise! Hahaha! I only got a super cute "Who wants to be a Mousketeer" pin for my effort, which I actually adore. :)

I remember using the Phone a Friend group during the game. I don't remember the question, but I know they answered correctly and helped us out!

Best thing was the memories:
12 year old DD: Looking up in amazement when the fireworks were going off. It was a little cool that night but I can see her with her favorite sweatshirt on, hood over her head, eyes big and wide and mouth wide open. You could almost read her mind saying "this is the coolest thing ever".
9 year old DD: We both got up early the first morning cause we were too excited to sleep. We ate breakfast, just the two of us. Then went to the Goofy sports deck and played golf and a bunch of silly ping pong. Nice to have those moments to ourselves
6 year old DD: I loved watching her at the shows. She would often be at the edge of her seat, clapping and singing along to the songs. Her eyes wide and a big old smile permanently pasted on her face.

For me personally, I celebrated my 40th on the cruise. Our friends had given me a big poster that they wanted me to get signed by characters and our wait staff. Of course they sang to me. I got my cake, a pin, and that was the night they shot off fireworks. That night was also when we turned clocks back so we stayed up late playing cards so it was a good day.

We picked up our daughter from a kid's club activity (she was probably 7 or 8) and she was not happy to be leaving - but we had a family activity planned and as we walked down the hall by the movie theater - Cinderella was coming towards us [to go to the kids activity in the theater for which my daughter had wanted to stay] and she saw that our daughter looked sad (she was not crying or throwing a tantrum - just looked sad). and Cinderella stopped and talked to her and of course said all the right things about how she'd have a good time, not to be sad.......and then of course asked if we'd like a picture....it was quite magical indeed.

It seems the hall the kids club is at is the spot to run into characters. My favorite memory when we sailed on the Magic was pushing my 1 year old son up and down the hall in his stroller trying to get him to fall asleep..it was late..like 11:30 at night, he was cranky and over stimulated...and I was cranky he wasnt falling asleep lol. All of a sudden Snow White appears down the hall..no body is around..and shes in Full character..singing to herself..dancing. She heard us behind her and she came over to chat for a minute or two and then went on her way..she didnt appear to be in a hurry or going anywhere in particular lol. It was so cute and cheered both of us up.

I have a son with Aspergers (High Functioning Autism) who really wanted to try the AquaDuck (it was our very first cruise on the Dream). He needs time to get comfortable with new things, ask questions, and we knew he would hesitate at the top before feeling ready to get on. We waited until it seemed to be a quiet time, went to go on it, only to find they were closing it to get ready for something (I think it was the pirate party fireworks). The CM who was on duty asked about and listened to the situation, and was very apologetic. By the time we got back to our stateroom a little while later, there was an invitation for him to come the next morning before the AquaDuck opened to explore. It was amazing, he got the time to get used to the idea, check it out, relax and feel comfortable, and then actually go on and enjoy it! Priceless :)

This is the kind of magic that I love to hear about. Thanks for sharing it!

We had a personal meet and greet with the Fab 5 on the last day of our cruise in their Christmas attire in the art gallery. It was a magical moment for all, but especially for my DD6 at the time.

The other magical thing about the cruise was that the 7 of us didn't get into even the tiniest of argument or disagreement the entire cruise!

We've had a lot of special moments, but the few that stick out to me involve DS18 who is special needs. Since he is the reason we do so much with Disney--he LOVES the characters--I guess it's not all that surprising. But these are the kind of moments that keep us coming back. If you've seen the movie Buddy the Elf, that is pretty much DS18 in a nutshell. He is big guy who is young at heart, very sweet, and still believes in the magic of Santa and Mickey Mouse. It is infectious, which I think explains these. The first was a few years ago on an Alaska cruise when we received a card on our door to attend a special meet and greet with the disney characters before the 'til we meet again show. It was absolutely incredible. I have never seen him so excited and happy. The joy on his face at having all those characters around him, hugging him, etc, was indescribable. Let's just say there were a few tears in mom's eyes :) I believe these are usually for Make a Wish kids, and we were very lucky, but it is probably one of my top memories with my son of all time. I suspect one of the character handlers was responsible--they tend to get to know him. There was also a great moment when Cinderella was walking by above us on one of the balconies and out of the blue yelled "Hello Prince [DS's First name]" and waved. I've never seen him blush and smile so much. It was adorable. There was also a funny moment for me when DS and I were sitting by the ice cream machine late at night, and some really cute mom walks by and says, "Hi, [DS first name]." I was like ... what was that about? She must have seen my head crank back and forth and came to talk to me when I'd left DS for a minute. She asked if I was his mom, and when I said yes (a little warily, wondering what he'd done, LOL) she told me what an amazing kid I had. How he had everyone in line at one of the character meets in love with him, and how he brought a smile to everyone's face and reminded them why Disney was so special. Yes, more tears in the eyes :)

We met Minnie at a photo op wearing our honeymoon shirts and she noticed them and wanted to look at my ring. It's was a pretty funny moment where she made a big deal over how nice it was and both her and her handler told my husband good job lol. The best part was when she pointed up at Mickey and gestured what is he waiting for?!

I remember using the Phone a Friend group during the game. I don't remember the question, but I know they answered correctly and helped us out!

At Hollywood Studios, the lifeline was "Phone a Complete Stranger". My son and I never won the cruise but did come close a couple of times. I'm sorry that attraction is gone now.

I've had so many magical moments on my cruises that it's hard to remember them all, but one of the best actually happened before my most recent cruise. We took my grandparents on this cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary. While my dad and I were doing online check-in, we remembered that we could have a phone call from Mickey Mouse. Yes, it might be meant for kids, but we scheduled one for Mimi and PawPaw. My dad called Mimi on her cell before the call so we could make sure she would answer it. He kept her on the phone while she answered the house phone, and her reaction was priceless! As soon as she heard Mickey's voice, she started giggling and talking to him. When we got to the terminal, my brother, Mimi, and I waited to meet Mickey Mouse. She was so giddy the whole time, and it was so much fun to experience it through her perspective!

DH and I were on a 4-night Dream cruise last September and the best part was sitting outside of Meridian and having drinks while watching the ship pull away from Nassau on a beautiful day. Absolutely relaxing and amazing!

Let's see, for me its usually the little things.
Our second cruise fell over hubby's birthday. I wanted to give him a special day (as if being on the cruise wasn't special enough) and bought him several different pins. We were having brunch at palo that day and dinner with our usual servers, so I gave the receptionist at Palo and our head server some pins to have delivered with our meals, and asked our stateroom attendant if he could make the last two pins part of our night time towel animal. Not only was everyone happy to help, the seemed (or at least acted very convincingly) excited about it! The handing over of the pins at meals went very well, but when we got back to the room at night, our attendant ahd done the FULL ROMANTIC TURN DOWN SERVICE for us, with the rose petals leading from the doorway to the bed and the swans making the heart shape and everything.
On our most recent cruise, we travelled the first time with our daughter. She was 14 weeks old (before the age limit switched to 6 mo.). The big Magic was that we got upgraded from a standard oceanview to a deluxe family verandah!! That was super awesome, especially since hubby and I could go hang out on the balcony while kiddo was sleeping.
But the sweetest thing was one night when I was sitting outside the movie theater with her. DH was watching Avengers, and I was sitting outside because the noise had been making her fussy. It was fairly late, and one of the cast members from the nursery came by, headed towards the staff quarters. When she saw us, she not only stopped to say hi, but she said "wait here just a minute!" and disappeared, coming back a minute or two later with one of the other girls from the nursery. They both insisted on cooing over and playing with my daughter and saying how much they enjoyed having her in the nursery. That they recognized a little baby (they had not seen me before, as usually DH dropped her off) and seemed so genuinely happy to be around her even when it was their time off? Made us feel so comfortable and happy with the care that she was receiving (and what mother doesn't want to hear her baby complimented and cooed over, right?)
